I think that is true with albums and I know I've been encouraging you, Joe, and others here to give the album Driving Rain more listens. No no no! You can't make me! Unless I need to drown out the sound of "McCartney II"! Seriously, though, I like the song (not the person named) "Heather". I actively dislike all the others are this album, very unusual for me, I usually enjoy 4-6 songs on each of Paul's albums, sometimes more. This is such a poor collection IMO. Which are the 3 best songs on Drving Rain for you? LOL! My favorite 3 are in this order: 1. Magic: one of the saddest(meaning blue not lame!) songs Paul has ever written and sung. 2, Heather: The instrumental part, which is the first 3/4's of the song, perfectly captures the thrill and excitement of new love. The lyrics likewise are so silly but also capture that giddiness of new love, like when Mark Twain's Tom Sawyer is doing cartwheels and flips off the fence in full view of little Becky Thacker's window and falls flat on his face! He doesn't care because he is in love and Paul likewise shows off and struts his stuff for Heather Mills. 3. "Your Loving Flame:" Yes, we will never, ever hear this song again as Paul has banished it to "Heather Hell" but Paul is a master of piano ballads starting with "Hey Jude," "Let It Be," "Maybe I'm Amazed," "My Love," "Wanderlust" and "Your Loving Flame." 4.(I can't stop)"Your Way": 2001 Macca revisits Ram of 1971! A cool little ditty. 5. "From A Lover To Friend:" hauntingly beautiful, another sad one. I believe Paul sincerely loses it during this song when he can't even sing words. 6. "About You:" a rocker that also reminds me of early Macca, you know, The JSD Postulate. 7. "I Do:" A lovely, underwhelming song that sneaks up on one. It is a grower but once it hooks you(like it did me), it has you for life. I really like "Driving Rain" from the album but live it was a mess. "Lonely Road" is good but maybe tries too hard. A five minute(instead of 10 minute) "Rinse The Raindrops" would be a Macca classic we would be praising 1,000 years from now. Paul stretched it out five minutes too long and it is forgotten.

[quote And I love that video. The last shot of Ackroyd, Chase and Paul sneaking across Abbey Road is priceless.[/quote]
I like the video too-much better than the song.
As for DRIVING RAIN, I like "Lonely Road", but nothing else stands out much. This is about the only album of Paul's that truly deserves the type of criticism people like McCabe give to his solo work.

The fact that I liked one track on Driving Rain is enough to let me know that I didn't like any of the others. You are implying Paul has only one good track on his albums? Whoa, that's extreme. That's not what I said. I said I only like one track. That makes an album nearly full of tracks I don't like. No biggie - it's not the first (or the last) of Paul's albums to fall in that general area (McCartney II, Electric Arguments come to mind).

I like DR, JSD I disagree about About You, it's not reminiscent of the JSD Postulate but more of the Wings Postulate ala BOTR/Venus and Mars, imho.

Egads, could "About You" be more like the overwrought, fakey "Call Me Back Again" than the earthy, funky, almost dangerous "Monkberry Moon Delight," a song with almost cannibal connotations, certainly demented. Point taken, ursamajor. I must listen closer to AY and I will admit that the organ that comes in takes away from the punchier start of the song.

I always thought the instrumental part of Heather was rather "John Teshish", but I think Your Way can hold its own with the best of Paul's catalog - solo or group.

although BTHE is my 1st Paul LP; it really is a Wings before the 80's: at 13 years old I loved McCartney II and Tug Of War: I lost interest in Beatles after that until George's Cloud 9:
Here i's my 10:
1. Summer's Day Song (found the mellotron hauntingly beautiful) 2. So Bad (a girl rejected me with this playing in the background) 3. Write Away (Something very Paul about this song) 4. This One (Good one-hate the video though) 5. Temporary Secretary (has a definite 80's feel) 6. You Want Her Too 7. Rainclouds 8. Tough On A Tightrope 9.Here Today 10. Wanderlust
Motor of Love sounds so derivative of the Cars "Drive" even in the lyric-although the Cars has better lyrics that I'll listen to Drive when I'm in the mood for that kind of atmosphere
