I was told "all in good time," which means there could be a Volume 2 in the works, but not yet.

That's why he's theman! Actually he is "theman" because he was a charter member and indeed President of the Rhode Island "Jack Albertson as Ed Brown" Fan club, having memorized every line from Mr. Albertson from the uproarious 1970's television sitcom Chico And The Man.

ITunes will let you currently listen to cuts from all the tracks even though the album isn't available until May 1. There are some really nice demos and alternate versions on this album.

Only 10 songs!?!?! Disappointing, when clearly there are more "early takes/rare tracks" out there. And, of course, the idea of only putting 10 track on a CD seems "cheap"> Then again, the package is only priced at $9.99.

That implies more to come unless Olivia and Dhani are pulling some kind of Wilbury joke on us.

It was released here on Friday 27th. I bought a copy, as I never got the ridiculously expensive Living In The Material World box it initially appeared in (around A$150). It's quite a good set of recordings. I'm disappointed with the lack of recording dates and other details for the individual tracks though. I would have thought that information should have been automatically included for a collection of demos and alternate takes. The liner notes do indicate a volume two will come.

Mind you, and knowing George, vol 2 of the Wilburys was a bit disappointing.

I just bought my CD copy at Best Buy for $9.99 (I wanted the vinyl too but they didn't stock it so I'll get it later elsewhere). I also picked up the DVD of LIVING IN THE MATERIAL WORLD for $17.99. I am a Blu-ray fan and they also had the Blu-ray at $17.99 but for some reason I decided to just stick with the standard DVD.
It was great to bump into a guy about my age who was also grabbing George's new release ... only he bought the CD, the DVD and the Blu-ray! We got into a nice talk about the Beatles and music in general.. and also about how the two of us are dedicated "physical media lovers" who will NEVER rely on MP3, downloads, Ipods or whatever. (We both agreed these were okay as supplements, but we both liked owning stuff, having physical items to collect). Then we discussed how even some of the younger people today like to collect records and CDs.... not only does my 20-year-old nephew, but this guy has a 20-year-old son who loves The Beatles and old music and buying discs!!
Anyway -- I listened to the first 6 tracks during the ride home (I also witnessed a car accident at an intersection as I waited for the light; it was kinda nasty but I don't think anyone was hurt). ... The new CD it's interesting for diehard completists... I don't know if the casual Beatle Fan would be as intrigued.
VERY comforting to realize we got a new release album from Paul, George, and Ringo in the early months of 2012!

I picked up the c.d. and dvd also at Best Buy but saw no one in the Kokomo, Indiana store I wanted to talk to. ;D I was able to play all of the album on the 35 minute ride home. The sonics on the c.d. are awesome and the c.d. itself is neat, it reproduces the album photo of young George arising out of the water on the disc itself. Cool! It is a neat c.d. for $9.99. I will watch the "Bonus Features" on the dvd but when I subscribed to HBO solely to watch this movie last year, I must have seen it a billion times. I hope Beatles/George fans buy this c.d. as we want Volume II so good sales won't hurt our chances for more volumes! George is my favorite Beatle right now. Man do we miss him. I do believe a lot of the truth about The Beatles died with him as George had consistently seemed the most objective on the factual recountings on The Beatles if he could be coaxed into talking about them. This is a nice day for us fans. I hope now everyone can see the film as the dvd is reasonably priced and it is something that belongs in our libraries even though it is far from perfect as a film.

I picked up the CD yesterday and I love just about everything about it. This is just the coolest little Beatle-related release in a long while. (It's been a long cold lonely winter.) I love the early take of Awaiting on You All which sounds like a Plastic Ono Band version (I assume it's Klaus Voorman on bass). The version of Behind That Locked Door is exquisite, with just George on acoustic and the incredible Pete Drake on his amazing steel. The early take of I'd Have You Any Time is also gorgeous. George is in VERY nice voice on All Things Must Pass -- a stunner! For me, the album with just 10 tracks hangs together as a unit, and with its stripped down feeling might have a certain appeal to "non-Beatles fanatics". So -- AT LAST -- are Olivia and Dhani finally cracking open the vaults? I hope so! My only gripe is the complete lack of session notes, and yes it would have been nice to have another 4 or 5 tracks. Hope volume 2 shows up some day SOON. I hear George has quite a "flock" of demos! -- David

I also loved the slightly slower, bluesier "Woman Don't You Cry For Me." Great stuff and I love Hari's singing on it. The Everly Brothers song is not a fave of mine and I actually prefer the drunken version George and Jeff did on Rockline in 1987 or 1988 better. I agree that this is a wonderful release for us. I will say I was incredibly underwhelmed by Ringo's 2012 and Paul's KOTB barely rates with me at all so this album, even of stuff I've heard before, gives me a reason to believe.

So -- AT LAST -- are Olivia and Dhani finally cracking open the vaults? I hope so! I'm with you ... I certainly hope so! Olivia and Dhani have really dragged their feet since George's passing in giving his fans some exciting new stuff. (People like to criticize Yoko, but I've always felt she did John and his fans right by taking care of his legacy and always releasing different things, while not really shaming him). I just got back from a record store where I was able to buy the Vinyl version of this album for $14.99. WOW -- I must say that this is one of the best LP covers in the whole Beatles catalogue! I love that photo of a young George in the pool, but to get it on a large LP record cover is really special. It feels just like old times again, from 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982 or something when I used to go to the record store all excited about a brand new 12" Fab record release! I think the last LP I recall buying new like that was Paul's FLOWERS IN THE DIRT in 1989 (and that was only because the CDs used to come out after the vinyl at that time... I was sold on CD back then and didn't want the record!).

I was sitting here reading about all you lot who'd been lucky enough to purchase George's latest release when a minor miracle happened. George's new album squeezed through my broadband connection and landed on my desktop...can you believe modern technology.... Should be a good trip to work tomorrow morning with new George on the cd player.... ;D hopefully it's in the stores near to me some time soon...

Touche but remember to help the cause with a more conventional acquisition someday to send a loud message to Mrs. Harrison that we respectfully desire even more substantive releases from George's musical vault. Commercial sales may send that message. It is a beautiful package anyway as a couple of us have noted.

Here is an absolutely lovely review of George Harrison: The Early Takes Volume I by American Songwriterwww.americansongwriter.com/2012/05/george-harrison-early-takes-volume-1/It correctly notes that this album highlights George's wonderfully subtle voice and in these early takes we hear some humor and wit all but drowned out in the final recordings on ATMP oe elsewhere. Does anyone else find it amazing but cool that Giles Martin produced this album based on the history of George Harrison and George Martin's professional working relationship? Hari was absolutely a gentleman to Sir George when they they would meet in the years after(as Sir George has always said) but George likewise was steadfast in never asking Mr. Martin to work with him again on Hari's solo work. I wonder if George Harrison had any contact with Giles Martin in the early stages of the LOVE project? There can be no doubt that Olivia and Dhani must have been impressed with Giles work for the LOVE soundtrack. Here's what Giles writes on the liner notes: Sleeve Notes by Producer Giles Martin: In 2009 I was privileged to be invited by Olivia to listen to tapes that George had stored in his library at Friar Park . In the beautiful setting of George’s studio, overlooking the meticulous gardens that he had created, engineer Paul Hicks and I unboxed forgotten reels to hear the music George had left behind. This first collection provides a glimpse of what we found. From early multi-tracks of live takes of My Sweet Lord and All Things Must Pass to more recent tracks like Mama You’ve Been On My Mind, we hear an intimacy to George’s voice and guitar that can only be achieved with live performance devoid of production. I’d like to thank Olivia and Dhani for the honour of being invited into their home to share the work that George gave us all. GILES MARTINNotice Mr. Martin says "Mama You’ve Been On My Mind" is a more recent track! I wonder how recent? Most of these tracks of course are from ATMP so we are talking 1970. Do you think the Dylan cover sounds from the 80's or 90's? Paul Hicks is the Engineer on this album and he is the son of Tony Hicks, lead guitarist of The Hollies.

I listened to the album twice today...great album, i really like the songs in this reasonably raw form. They really learnt a lot about their craft during their Beatles era and it shows with these demo's from George.....

JSD, George's vocals on the Dylan song and the Everlys song remind me of his vocal syle on Rocking Chair in Hawaii, but who knows when that was actually recorded. The ambient synth sound in the background of Let it Be Me reminds me a bit of the Let It Down reworked outtake from ATMP 2000. By the way they could put out a great George Sings Bob album.
