3 -- I know I'm gonna be a loner here, but I think this is an interesting song from Ringo and especially when you watch this video. It captures Ringo's drinking and substance abusin', before he sobered up. There's something about the aura of this song and the unpolished sound of Ringo's vocals I like here.

The whole LP is awful. I agree Ringo's voice is interesting here and I never knew there was a video.
Still it is a 1.
Now this is from a fan that loves Rotogravure...so I'm not anti-Ringo. This whole LP just seems so plastic.

here are the lyrics...
I've been down one time, And i've been down two times, But now i'm drowning, drowning in the sea of love. I've been here so very long, I've lost all my directions.
But, baby, when you came my way, I thought i had found perfection. But a strong wind came into my life, It surely took me by surprise, I can't seem to control these tears flowing from my eyes. I've been down (one time) one time, I've been down (two times) two times, But i'm drowning, drowning in the sea of love.
You know that i depend on you, For our love's an obligation. But now that you deserted me, I'm in desperation.
But i'm in the middle of a bad love storm, It really took me by surprise. I look around and all i see is water coming over me. I've been down (one time) one time, I've been down (two times) two times, But i'm drowning, hear me, drowning in the sea of love. I've been down one time, And i've been down (two times) two times, But now i'm drowning, drowning in the sea of love.
Drowning, you know i'm drowning. (watch your love, watch your love, yeah-hey) (watch your love, watch your love) I'm going down for the last time!
Drowning in the sea of love - drowning, Drowning in the sea of love - drowning, Drowning in the sea of love - falling, Drowning in the sea of love - falling, Drowning in the sea of love, Drowning in the sea of love, Drowning in the sea of love, Drowning in the sea of love.
Watch your love, watch your love, Watch your love, watch your love, Watch your love, watch your love.
Drowning in the sea of love - drowning, Drowning in the sea of love - drowning, Drowning in the sea of love - falling, Drowning in the sea of love - falling. One time.
Two times. Drowning, drowning in the sea of love. One time. Two times. I'm going down two times. (drowning) drowning, drowning in the sea of love.
I've been down (one time) one time, And i've been down (two times) two times, But i'm drowning, drowning in the sea of love. Whoa!
Drowning in the sea of love, i'm drowning! Drowning in the sea of love, i'm falling! Drowning in the sea of love, yeah! Drowning in the sea of love, Drowning in the sea of love, Drowning in the sea of love.

I will surprise myself and say 3. I really like Ringo's singing although the disco production is rather over-the-top. I like the 70's era female back-up singers. Hot babes from a time when antibiotics killed any and all STD's!
The video is awesome, the best Ringo video ever made because it captures(without Ringo really realizing it) why his solo music career went into the toilet after Ringo and GV. I thought the video much more compelling than the song but Ringo's voice was cool.

There was a time this would have been a 1 for me easily and it went on so long at the end that I almost decided to give it a 1 anyway (as it reminded me of what an awful era the "disco era" was for pop music) but still I'll give it a 2. It is at least average disco. By the way my problem with the disco era was just that disco became so pervasive and was totally overplayed to the detriment of so many good songs (mostly new wave/punk) that didn't get the airplay they deserved (in the US anyway)

Okay- I actually sat through the whole video. IF and only if Ringo is contributing on the drums, I'll raise it to a 2, because the musician work is actually pretty good albeit it pure adulterated disco.

Joe Simon's original version deserves a 3+.
Ringo is putting energy into the vocal but the arrangement is so dated I have to give it a 2. He is a bit clumsy in his interaction with the backup singers and goes flat here and there. As Ringo's songs go, it could be a 3. But an overall comparison is no more than a 2.
Did you notice Ring appears to lose his balance for a second after he delivers the first line of the song?

I like it and the Ringo the IVth album, I will give it a 3.
No way Ringo the IV is his worst album.

I like it and the Ringo the IVth album, I will give it a 3. No way Ringo the IV is his worst album. Then your record collection must be made up of Saturday Night Fever, KC and the Sunshine Band and Donna Summer It is well produced technically, but I think he had minimal participation- I think it was one of those show up and sing LPs. I don't think there was one pure rock and roll cut, even though the recent remake of Wings sounds more like a rocker. But I love Rotogravure and many consider that his worst, so beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And I did listen to the cut with the headphones- I might give the whole LP a relisten.

I love Rotogravure too and I consider it his best album I find the more recent albums amongst his worst ie Vertical Man and Choose Love and that's where I stopped buying. and there is no disco in my collection apart from I Was Made For Loving You

When Disco was new I didn't like it much. These days I like it a lot, and especially as compared to cRap "music"! I'll take the '70s Disco sound over today's junk any time!
RINGO THE 4TH - I think it's one of Ringo's weaker albums but not the "worst". I think OLD WAVE may be his worst album of all. Of recent offerings, CHOOSE LOVE and RINGO RAMA qualify...

This song only gets a 2 from me, barely. This song just sounds like a parody of itself.
By the way, count me in as a Rotogravure fan. But I also think RingoRama is one of his most diverse and, subsequently, best LPs!

I don't think there was one pure rock and roll cut, even though the recent remake of Wings sounds more like a rocker. Out in the Street, while it has a dance beat, has a rocker attitude...that's my fav on this album (if they could trim off the last 30-60 seconds)

Ringo Rama rocks! Seriously, one of the best albums of the last 15 years! Every cut is good, except for the ones that are GREAT! Seriously, you would put Ringo Rama behind Bad Boy, Liverpool 8, Ringo the 4th? I'm stunned.

Regarding the song at hand, I'll give it a 1.5. It bores me, goes on and on and on.

I'll give it a 1.5. I'd hate to say it was crap.
Funny thing, Wings from Ringo the 4th came up in rotation in my car today. It sounded a little slow and Ringo did not nail the hooks like he does on the new version, but I like this version a whole lot more than I used to.

He played Rock Your Baby and mentioned it inspired him.

He played Rock Your Baby and mentioned it inspired him. It definitely wasn't the WNEW radio interview where John played the song and said that. That is to say, I have heard the whole show and it wasn't mentioned. I don't see a connection between WHATEVER GETS YOU THRU THE NIGHT and ROCKY YOUR BABY, personally.

There are a few good radio interviews of the boys out there, not enough unfortunately. Why don't they make those available on i-tunes?
