stephenkpeeples.com/2012/08/08/peeples-place-lewisohn-beatles-bio-vol-1-done-now-due-out-next-year/Steve wrote an article on this highly anticipated definitive Beatles History earlier this past month. Here's another link I found about it above. Looks like we have to wait until Fall, 2013 for Volume I. But it will supposedly be more definitive than even the Beatles own account of their story in their Anthology book. Early accounts of people who have seen the completed first volume have said even the so-called Beatle experts will be wide-eyed at all the "new" information in the book that has never been revealed before. I just hope Paul and Ringo (and Pete Best) are still with us long enough to comment on the book when it is released.

On the strength of Lewisohn's previous work I look forward to this volume and its follow ups. I can wait though. There will be plenty of other Beatles and solo releases to keep me happy until then.

I think it's something the Greeks used to put temple roofs on top of.

I did see your column Steve. It was dated Aug. 7 and the article I just posted came out a day later (Aug. 8) and I didn't recall seeing that particular one when I read yours. So I posted it as a companion to your article. I am one frustrated fan as we will have to wait almost 5 years from the originally promised date of this book being published. I am sure it will be worth the wait as this guy Lewisohn is a perfectionist when it come to The Beatles.

Well, it gives us time to save our pennies. At least it's not being published by Genesis!! Steve, if you have a quiz you have to give prizes to the winners.

I have probably forgotten the answer to this but is this Three Volume series just about The Beatles and not the solo careers?
And where would it stop if not including the solo history? Does it stop with the release of the LIB album and movie for instance.
I am awaiting those "Oh wow!" moments we are being promised.

Hopefully this will solve the John and Ringo drumming quote forever. That is my only wish.

I heard these books are gonna be extraordinarily long, right? Already some reviewers thought Spitz's The Beatles (a wonderful book) was too long. I wonder if this final Lewisohn take is gonna be something like: "Aug 27th, 1965. Paul wakes up at 8:15, and takes a dump. Simultaneously, across London, Ringo Starr does the same." I mean, how long is this thing supposed to be again...?

I mean, how long is this thing supposed to be again...? If you have Lewisohn's "The Recording Sessions", you'll see that this guy puts a lot of time and detail into his chronicles so I think we can be reasonably assured these upcoming books will be quite accurate. I don't think they will include Paul's bowel movements during his time with The Beatles. Though if that is where he came up with the ideas that became some of his best songs, who knows... I do some of my best thinking "on the throne"...... But I think you'll be surprised at some of the information that comes out that either has never been chronicled or clears up or confirms many discrepancies that we all have been pointing out for years as lacking in any books published so far, including the Anthology. Of course no one will make you buy them, so if you choose to ignore them, you are certainly at liberty to do so. But I wouldn't knock them till you've read them.... This isn't Geoffrey Giuliano or Fred Seaman....

I'm not knocking Lewisohn, who, despite his pathological Beatle obsession, seems like a nice enough and smart guy -- I'm just wondering if the world really needs a 10,000-page tome on a pop act that lasted 8 or 9 years, especially when there's already 2,749 books on The Beatles available. I just wonder if it's worth the time he's putting in.

Wasn't he accused of smuggling unreleased Beatles music out of AR during his official work for The Anthology? I am not charging him with anything(someone else may have) but he wrote the liner notes for Beatles releases and suddenly he wasn't and something happened. We have discussed this before.

Joey has heard the allegations I believe.

No, no, no, John. My recollection is that someone started a rumor and it went viral. But Lewisohn did nothing wrong. Which brings me to a point, folks -- do not believe everything you read, even by some people who claim to know what they're talking about. Too many people write like they know all and they don't. (I suspect I've been accused of that as well.) But many of the rumors that fly about the Beatles are made up stuff. Example: While I'd love to say the remastered vinyl is coming, there's nothing yet to go on. My opinion, however, is it very well might be. But it's a guess.

I wonder if this final Lewisohn take is gonna be something like: "Aug 27th, 1965. Paul wakes up at 8:15, and takes a dump. Simultaneously, across London, Ringo Starr does the same." I mean, how long is this thing supposed to be again...? Paul made a song from his dump and put it on Wings Wildlife......
