;D too bad she's married!
And it sounds like you really should be calling Paul the bully. And what kind of dad uses his buxom daughter in a tight U-shirt to deliver HIS profanity-laced message? Maybe Stella deserves your sympathy more than your disdain?

James McCartney: The Beatles are quite a hard act to follow
James McCartney, son of Beatles star Paul McCartney, talks to Metro about the worst job he's ever had, going into the music business and what it's like working with his famous father.
How would you describe your music?
JAMES: Just rock'n'roll I've been influenced by lots of bands such as Nirvana and The Cure.
What was the first song you wrote about?
JAMES: It was called Wings Of A Lightest Weight it's about me and my dad but maybe unconsciously about my mum in some ways. I watched Death Of A Salesman and it made me think about life and I wrote that song. I was around 17. I'd been writing stuff before then but never finished anything.
Did you go through a period of writing generic love songs?
JAMES: A little bit later. My version of love songs, a bit grungier. I liked Kurt Cobain a lot and went through a period of that after my mum died. I wanted to come to terms with negativity and had an epiphany.
Why did you decide to pursue a career in music?
JAMES: My family is very artistic. Having an amazing father like I do, he was a great teacher and still is. He was and still is a huge role model. More than that, I love music and if I'm not doing anything I'll pick up a guitar and write songs and lyrics. I grew up listening to bands such as Sonic Youth and just love music.
What other careers did you consider?
JAMES: I thought about doing animation for a while and did art at college, I did a bit of sculpture. I always focused on being an artist. When I was a kid I thought about becoming a fireman.
Was there anything that convinced you to pursue music over art?
JAMES: When I was around 13, I realised I was better than everyone else at my school at playing the guitar and thought: 'Wow, this is something I'm good at.' From that point I thought music was what I wanted to do.
Given your background, did you think it might be a good idea to do something else?
JAMES: I never thought that. I didn't want to worry about it. Rock'n'roll is about not worrying about stuff.
But aren't you either going to be accused of benefiting from nepotism or have your work unfavourably compared to that of your father?
JAMES: For a while I did run away from music but then I thought: What's the point of running away from myself? I love music so decided to embrace it.
Did that take a while?
JAMES: Yeah, because The Beatles are quite a hard act to follow.
There was a story you'd be forming a group with the other sons of The Beatles. What happened?
JAMES: Nothing. It was something that was taken out of context and cleared up straight away. I made a statement on my website. I was just thinking out loud.
Did you have a showbiz childhood?
JAMES: Yeah, it was quite jet setty. It was good fun but pressured in some ways. I travelled a lot but had a good education. In some ways it was difficult but I met lots of rock stars and grew up with them as role models and teachers and stuff.
Who made a particular impression on you?
JAMES: All of them, really, but Dave Gilmour, Eric Clapton, Mick Jagger, George Harrison, Ringo.
In what way?
JAMES: In the same way as my dad. George still does. It's really sad I don't get to hang out with him any more but he's still there on a spiritual level, which is very much what he was about. George was a prolific songwriter and an amazing artist, very spiritual and an amazing guy.
Did any of them teach you anything?
JAMES: Paul Simon taught me to finger pick. My dad taught me the most being in the studio with him creating sounds. Just being in their presence and watching them play guitar was a big lesson.
What sort of working relationship do you have with your father?
JAMES: We write music together and he produced my EP Collection. Occasionally we'll play the blues together and stuff like that.
As a producer, is he collaborative or does he tell you what to do?
JAMES: Both, which is good. It's good to have direction. He cuts to the chase.
Did you see many crazy fans growing up?
JAMES: We'd have fans come to the house at 6am sometimes and I remember my mum trying to talk to them politely. It happened a fair amount. You get used to it. If they're harmless, it's fine. I don't really experience much of it. It's stories from the past like John getting shot, that's all a bit nuts.
What's the worst job you've had?
JAMES: Gardening. I had to get up at 5am and the people I was working with weren't that great. We were fairly different people. We'd mow the lawns at cemeteries. I lasted three days.
What are your ambitions?
JAMES: To write good songs and immerse myself in the variety and expanse of music. Like most people I'd like commercial success but I'm just as interested in the artistic side.
James McCartney makes his UK festival debut at Bestival today.

James McCartney makes his UK festival debut at Bestival today. Interesting that James was really impressed with George Harrison and enjoyed working with him as well as his father. I don't recall George ever talking about his relationship with Paul's son. Did he somewhere. How ironic that both Dhani and James idolize each other's fathers and Paul & George had such difficulties getting along after about 1967 that carried over until George's passing, so that the guys never really ever wrote together other than Free As A Bird and Real Love. Maybe James and Dhani can collaborate together someday...

I join lowbasso and scousette in being impressed by James' kind words about George. Yeah, I have never read George comment on Paul's kids. I think I read where he once talked about Julian but not Macca's daughters and son.

A rich English hillbilly who may be demonically possessed. ;D ;D I think you don't like her 'cause she has b*lls. But Linda did, too, and you don't dislike her. I didn't like her shirt either - it was very unclassy ...but let me tell you, I thought Paul calling her up on stage was worse than her wearing it, so I was more annoyed with him than with her. As for the Saints - hmmmm - they need some work. That's the thing; Stella was probably ordered to wear that shirt by her dad. You are right cosmo, Paul bringing her up to the stage was his deliberate endorsement of that tasteless stunt. Per the Sounes book, Paul tells everyone in his life to F-off one time or another and some regularly, even Sir George Martin. It is Paul's favorite word when the cameras aren't rolling. Paul shouldn't have boycotted The Beatles RRHF induction if he was so concerned about it. His snub of the RRHF re Beatles caused it to delay his entry as a solo artist. Paul uncharacteristically underestimated the cultural importance placed on the RRHF by certain media and celebrity types. Paul was originally right to blow off the RRHF but once John got in solo, look out! Now it was Paul and Linda's mission for Paul to get in. Stella has balls because she can bully people because of her name and her wealth. Sometimes grace and carrots work better than profanity and sticks but Stella thinks she must always be the bull in the china shop from what I can read about her. I am still calling for Stella to include her oldest sister Heather in her veil of protection from cancer. Heather is not a mother true but still deserving of basic statements of support from her more publicity seeking sister. Of course, I would hook-up with Stella in a second if the stars aligned and we both found ourselves single. I'd run to sign the Pre-Nup! I think it's time you focused your disdain to Heather Mills, where it belongs.

Good read about James, the young turk...
I can't help wondering why it's taken him so long to go nowhere in music, especially if he's as good as he says he is......

Some of my favorite Paul music was inspired by Heather, whether from love or from hate! It doesn't matter, Heather inspired Paul one way or the other and the result was great music. Heather Mills jump-started Paul back to life and I will always be grateful to her for that. Plus she gave Paul Beatrice, the cutest, sweetest of all Beatles kids. We'll read great things from Beatrice when she grows up. Heather is a little excitable and prone to hyperbole at times but who isn't when one works as hard as she does for charities. We fans should accept that things with Paul and Heather didn't work out and they got a divorce.. Yet we need not shun her; she is still part of The Beatles Family thanks to Bea!

How can you even say that? I don't think Heathen was ever a "spark" to Paul. I think he was miserable with her -- and even if they started out okay at first, the bottom line of how it wound up is what matters --- and that is, Heathen tried to "boss" Paul around (she admits this using that very word in an interview with Barbara Walters, where she also says her first year with Paul was "worse than when I lost my leg"...!?!). Macca looked like a frightened boy while sitting with Heathen in virtual mute submission on Larry King, while she droned on about saving the seals. Heathen took Paul for big bucks in a nasty divorce. I really hope you were being facetious when you said Heathen brought back to life after he lost Linda. Because in the end, all she did was dig her claws in and make his life a true wreck. And she inspired some of the worst-ever half-hearted and obligatory "love songs" of paul's entire career --- on THRIVING PAIN, which was Paul's worst album.

Joe, I can't argue with you from my brain but my heart also has a say. Paul and Heather had one of those intense relationships where they could have the ugliest fights of all time then have the hottest "make-up" sex known to humankind. Their relationship finally burned out, so intense. I don't begrudge one penney Heather got in the divorce. Paul toured twice during the marriage setting records for ticket sales and revenue. Paul made more money on his 2002 and 2005 tours, thus expanding his wealth, than on all of his albums I bet from 2005 back to 1993. Heather gave Paul a daughter so that increased the stakes. Heather Mills kind of disappointed me too Joe with some of her actions but she had a horrible childhood and then lost her leg because someone at Lady Diana's home falsely issued an emergency and the motorcycle cop was rushing to Di's side in a false alarm! The good Heather does easily outweighs the bad! The Beatles are about love, we must let go of the hate for Heather Mills. That just creates bad vibrations.

Paul and Heather had one of those intense relationships where they could have the ugliest fights of all time then have the hottest "make-up" sex known to humankind. And we 'know' this how? (Unless, unbeknownst to me, Paul and/or Heathen commented on their sex life - and knowing Macca, I doubt it!). Does that extend to dropping the hate for Stella and Sheryl Crow, too? Also, Heathen may have done a lot of good things in her life, but I'm really concerned with her relationship with Paul exclusively. I think she was a pebble in his shoe.

I'm with Joe - it was a black day when Paul met her.
And nothing against Beatrice, but what is the proof that she's the sweetest of all Beatle kids - indeed where is the proof that she's sweet at all? She might take after her mother, after all! (GOD FORBID)

Around his time with Heather, Paul was saying that they made viagra from him.
It later came out in Heather's slander manifesto that Paul had to take viagra.
Gone are the good old days when a young girl could get in a sexless marriage with an old guy and not have to put out. Hell they could even pretend they wanted it and berate him for not being able to perform.

Boy did she get hammered for typical Crow B.S. So was that a "yes" or a "no"...? And what's so 'idiotic' about saying her brain tumor was caused by cellphone use? I've heard this can occur. Also -- having a brain tumor is worse than missing a leg, so maybe some compassion along the lines of how you play the violin for Heathen's missing limb is also in order for Ms. Crow?

The articles slammed Crow because science does not back her claims on cellphones.** Another urban legend. She will probably go testify before Congress on that topic. She has a benign tumor anyway that won't even get medically treated. Sheryl is "keeping an eye on it." Yet she enjoyed the big announcement that she had the tumor and the brief headlines she got. Just because Heathen was a hard core porn star and professional woman of the night, doesn't necessarily mean she's good in the bedroom. Remember poor Jerry Seinfeld couldn't get a deecent back rub from his massuse girlfriend.

Now JSD, I don't think you're being fair ... I could - we all could - come up with a jazillion pics of Paul in his early 20s with a cig and a drink in his hand - No double standards allowed - if it was ok for Daddy to party without us thinking he was... whatever you think Stella is, it was ok for Stella. And the oooonly reason you can state that Stella was a bully is because she said so in an interview - one in which she said she was bull ied by other kids as well. I work in a school, and that sounds like a pretty normal childhood to me! Speaking of bullies...That Woman was a bit of a bully, wouldn't you say- she as much as admitted that she had Paul by the short and curlies, and he didn't deny it!

When Linda was alive that stuff was kept to a minimum but everytime we turn around now there is Paul and Stella(sometimes Mary, sometimes James) at some fabulous swanky event only the rich and famous can attend. Some fans live vicariously for that and are thrilled by it. Not me. I like the Paul best from the era of The JSD Postulate when he lived on a farm, had plenty of charm and rolled his own. ;D
