Okay, most banal question ever, but seriously what color was it?
I always thought of his hair as medium-brown, but when you see certain color photos/clips of him, especially in the early/mid-60s, his hair looks very fair and almost with a touch of blond or red.
Can we confirm that John was the fairest-haired Beatle??

Light brown, bordering on reddish at times. Yes, his hair was lightest.

If ya look on the internet you'll get answers like...light brown, red, sandy brown, auburn, reddish-brown, dark brown......My Mrs hair is very similar (darker than John's, more chestnut in colour), her hair goes red, when light hits it as well.......Agree with what Vectis said Light Brown bordering red.....OK, whatever it was...It was a nice colour... Peter & Gordon had similar hair (Peter's was more red)... Just looking back on the *Help* film, I'm sure one or two of the others hair, would also look red under the light/sun...Ringo or George? Anyway, he is a quote from Yoko, in regards to John's hair...... This is what Yoko said about it in the liner notes to the John Lennon Anthology:
"In person, John was a much more attractive man than the one you saw in photos and films. He had very fair, delicate skin and soft, sandy hair with a touch of red in it when the light hit it in a certain way. I would kid him and say: "You're a redhead!" He would say: "Never!"

Was Paul the blackest?? (I mean prior to the current "just-for-men" era.)

It's hard to find a color photo of them that hasn't been touched up. At least in this one, they're outdoors and it's probably not so enhanced. You can see that George, at least here, has some golden brown in his hair. Paul's looks much darker, with no highlights.

It always amazes me at the red in John's hair! He got that from Julia I do believe. Yeah, Paul seems black, the kind of hair a lot of women seem to dye for these days! We have a woman in the office with beautiful brown hair and she dyed it black(she's not Gothic or anything) and it gave her a starker, kind of sinister look I thought. I am not saying that about Paul but I just notice a lot of women dying their hair black from brown.

Considering what a changeling John was, is it any surprise that his hair could change color at will?

Also, what happened to Ringo's grey-streak from the Hurricanes days? Dyed by Brian Epstein?

Ringo's grey streak was always there, but the moptop haircut brushed other hair over it.

Ringo's grey streak was always there, but the moptop haircut brushed other hair over it. Hmmm! Never heard that! I read somewhere that he dyed it. Ah, well. you learn something new every day!
