I had to pause for a few times just to remind myself that it is actually not April 1st.
I make no bones about hating Hip Hop and cRap... and I thought Kanye West was ridiculous when I saw him at the 12/12/12 concert. Ever since that time, Kanye has been someone I've mentioned any time I put down today's "music".
That said, at this point all I can say is that I hope Paul's involvement with West will not stretch beyond a song or two off Kanye's own album; if that crap starts to infest Paul's own future album(s), I will have a serious problem. Of course as a completest I would still listen to the work -- who knows, maybe it could be.... 'good'..?... but this strikes me as horrific news just on the surface of it...
... I would hate for Paul to go out as a real opportunist. I felt he did this with Michael Jackson in the 1980s (though at least I did like Jackson's music). This whole bit of news strikes me as a severe case of desperation to fit in and be relevant, on Paul's part. Shameful.

Joe, Paul and his band The Beatles changed the music world once, I think this thing with Kanye will do it again!
Here is a sample of what we may be in for:

cRap is not "new" or "cutting edge" anymore. .. JSD, it's still difficult for me to know when you're having fun stirring the brew or when you're actually sincere!
I will have a severe dilemma on my hands if Macca ever becomes cRappa. I have been a completest Solo Collector for decades, so I hope I don't have to face such a problem!
PAUL: "What can I do to get a Number One? I got it -- I'll record with Kanye West and REALLY sell out with silliness!"...
Please, Lord -- let this one be a rumour. Or a minor excursion.

I doubt Kanye brought Paul into the studio to do rap. More likely he saw Paul's show, the loving crowd and 3 hours worth of hit after hit after hit, and wanted Paul's help in doing something s little different in the studio.
I'm sure Kanye will rap. I've never heard him sing.
The only songs I've heard of Kanye's have been duets.

I too hope it's a rumor but I have a feeling that it isn't. From the stories and comments from poeple on the internet, most people are against a Panye (Paul and Kanye) duet. I really hope Paul is only doing backing vocals on one or two tracks or playing bass. I will listen to the duet because Paul's on it.

I have little patience for people who deliberately have ridiculous names.
Although "West" is OK.

The only way it works to me is not a duet, but utilizing Paul's musicianship, as West has a knack to use great instrumentals he is not even closely capable of writing himself.

I still hope Paul mixes it up with Kanye and does some real rapping not just standing there playing his Hofner Bass.

Whilst i can't stand rap music myself i can understand Paul getting into it, especially as his vocal ability deteriorates to about a 5 note range.
I hope as Paul ventures into rap he employs a lyricist, him rapping over his own rhymes would be hilarious...
Picking Up Scales And Broken Chords Puppy Dog Tails In The House Of Lords Tell Me Darling, What Can It Mean? Making Up Moons In A Minor Key What Have Those Tunes Got To Do With Me? Tell Me Darling, Where Have You Been? Once Upon Along Ago Children Searched For Treasure Nature's Plan Went Hand In Hand With Pleasure.

The NEW album would have been the perfect Swan Song for Macca. I would hate for him to go out as Macca Da Rappa.

Those lyrics are quite rapable(is that even a word?). I would hope though that Paul and Kanye make music about social justice, not just psychedelic stuff. What about putting a Hip Hop beat to "Rinse The Raindrops" from the seminal Driving Rain album: Paul could sing that frantic stuff he aleady does and Kanye could rap about something topical, like Ferguson Missouri. Still I want Macca to throw down some bad boy rhymes!

Yeah, fabfour. That's some good rhymes there.
I was listening to Dylan's It's Alright Ma (I'm only bleeding) this morning and was noticing how much of a rap vibe it had. And of course he had Subterranean Homesick Blues from the same album. Maybe Kanye needs to work with Bob. (He may have a better shot at a number 1 that way.)

All the time that has passed since 1987 and those words still depress me. When I listen to that song it sounds so gorgeous, especially the violin solo at the end and I can't stop thinking how good it could have been with better quality lyrics. If Paul had kept the song strictly about his reminiscences of childhood, i.e.: Once Upon Along Ago Children Searched For Treasure Nature's Plan Went Hand In Hand With Pleasure it might have resulted in something much better. It's water under the bridge now. As far as Kanye goes, I must admit I know next to nothing about his music. All I know is his Taylor Swift awards night intervention, Obama calling him a jackass and his marriage to Kim K. I'm keeping an open mind concerning any collaboration with Paul. Who knows, it might result in something good. If it does, I'm not going to spurn it just because Kanye can sometimes be a jerk (so can Paul at times, or any of us, can't we?), or it is from a genre I don't normally listen to.

He is also the guy who said "George Bush don't care about black people" during the Concert for Katrina. You can't forget that one.

Joe, wouldn't it be awesome if Paul packed the punch that Kanye did at that Hurricane Sandy Relief Concert?
If I remember right, at the Hurricane Katrina Benefit concert, Paul defied all logic, good taste, and humility and performed his newest single "Fine Slime" instead of doing a more appropriate song like "Blackbird" to acknowledge the disproportionate suffering of African Americans in New Orleans during Katrina or even the more appropriate "Too Much Rain."
Nope, just like at The Concert For New York City, when Paul plugged the dirge "Like A Lover Or A Friend," his new single, over many better choices, Paul just had to plug his newest single for Hurricane Katrina,
Paul needs Kanye if he wants to be commercially viable again!

Joe, wouldn't it be awesome if Paul packed the punch that Kanye did at that Hurricane Sandy Relief Concert? Kanye looked like an ass at the Sandy concert, and he sounded like something that came out of someone's ass. He was a blemish on the Sandy benefit. His non-performance was the epitome of everything I have despised about modern music of the past 20 years or more. Just because the world is no unsophisticated today that many people ate up that crap does not mean anything. Just because you personally love "Too Much Rain" (I like it too), that does not mean for a second that it would have gone over any better. Also, if Paul had performed "Blackbird" to acknowledge the suffering of blacks in New Orleans, you would have cried that "he's relying on the same old boring songs again". -Sez the guy who thinks "Mumbo" should be performed at every event. As for "From A Lover To A Friend" (the proper title) ..You're the one who liked the THRIVING PAIN album, not me. You don't make any sense, John... you constantly complain about Paul always doing "moldy Beatles oldies" to satisfy the Beatle people, and usually insist that Paul ought to stick with only his new solo stuff... and then when he does it, you complain about that, too. But in all fairness, we can never know for sure when you're being serious or are just trying to raise fur on people's backs, are we? Then I would prefer he were never "commercially viable" again. And I still think you like to stir the brew and don't believe half of what you say.

Joe, at a three hour Paul concert I wish Paul would go deep into his strong and eclectic solo catalog. At a benefit concert with multiple acts where Paul is given a five or six song slot and especially on a one song televised charity relief special there is nothing wrong with a monster Beatles' song.
That is not being inconsistent. At the former there should be diehard fans who would love Paul to go deep and at the latter you have a mixed audience and familiarity is important.

I cannot imagine that Paul would allow himself to be affiliated with a song called "Piss On Your Grave". Now, I understand that many of us (and this includes me) have wanted Paul to grow a real pair over the past decades.... however, I seriously think that Paul would not be willing to risk his reputation like that. He has got to know that a lot of his lifelong fans would be put off him because of that. I would be VERY surprised if Paul went this route, despite his desperation to remain "current and relevant". But some of us have also theorized that Macca "has not been all there" as he reaches old age, so...

Paul, in response to a fan's question, says a Kanye West and JayZ concert he attended recently is perhaps the best concert he has attended ever(but not played in). Good Ol' PC and PR Paul!

Speaking of concerts, did you make it to Paul's Louisville show? Sally, I spaced it completely! A month or so ago I was really thinking of trying to go, buy a ticket from StubHub. I simply forgot. My beloved The Avett Brothers played three glorious concerts in Louisville the weekend of October 18th at a smaller venue than Paul's but that was my youngest stepson's wedding so I couldn't go to any of the three concerts.

Macca's association with Hip Hop continues as he and Michelle Obama, among others, are scheduled to appear on a new interview show with Rapper Pitbull. A performance by Paul seems confirmed for that show. www.nme.com/news/pitbull/80751
