I must say that I am disappointed in the hostility I have encountered from even some of my beast Beatles friends over my enthusiasm to the release last Friday of Pure McCartney! The JSD Pure McCartney Count-Down was meant to promote this release and create some buzz!
I never thought that my being a cheerleader for a career-spanning compilation of songs curated by Paul McCartney himself would expose me to hatred, ridicule and alienation! I bought Blast From Your Past, Shaved Fish, The Best Of George Harrison and Wings Greatest without animosity in the 1970's! I was given "low-fives"(high-fives were not invented back then yet) by these same people giving me grief now!
I am hibernating with my Deluxe Pure McCartney!

No one should face HOSTILITY for what he/she decides to like and spend money on, musically speaking. The worst you should have faced was yawning apathy and mild ridicule.

Sony has decided to release 14 of the Greatest Hits from The Beatles album Rubber Soul!! It will come out on July 13!! ONLY ONE MONTH UNTIL IT GETS RELEASED!!!!! I'm getting it on vinyl, 8-track, Reel to Reel, Audio Cassette, laser disc (remember those?), and CD!! And you can get it in mono or stereo, original master with voices on one speaker and instruments on the other, or remastered so it sounds more like a normal recording! And besides George's compositions, which will be sequenced at the end of the album, all the others songs will be listed McCartney/Lennon. There will be a companion disc with Paul discussing in detail how all the songs were mostly his except for small contributions from John here and there. The whole collection on the various options will be available for $199 and non-refundable. My order is already in at Amazon. I can't wait to hear just these great hits from the immortal album! In a different sequence too! The Reel to Reel version will be phenominal! Can you imaging hearing Rubber Soul looped up on a big ol' reel to reel machine! This will sell Millions!!

Good question debjorgo but I sense sarcasm in lowbasso's post although his writing on Paul taking credit for 85% of Rubber Soul makes me think this might be legit!

Well, it worked for Morecambe and Wise and Grieg's piano concerto...
(let the non-Brits figure that one out!)

It is sarcasm directed at the record companies and the marketing of repackaged music released over and over again simply dressed in a new outfit to make it seem new.....

Has to be the EMI version. We only got 12 tracks on the Capitol version. Just as long as "I've Just Seen A Face" and "It's Only Love" start out Sides 1 and 2. Because RUBBER SOUL is a better album with those songs*, whether 12 or 14 tracks. *too bad The Beatles themselves hadn't realized this.

I quite like the deluxe PURE MACCA compilation, and even if i already have the songs 15 times over, i only have them in this order once.
I've got it on rotation in my car, to and from work i get Pure McCartney.

I avoid most of this, though I did buy Revolver, White, Let it Be and Abbey Road 2009 remasters to replace my 1987 CDs. They were sonically better. I also will buy 5.1 remasters if they ever do them-this is basically creating sonically superior audio from not only the master tapes, but the premaster reels with more individual instrumentation, as per Yellow Submarine Songtrack.

You may not have full agreement over that assertion. Really? Gee, why not tell me something I don't already know! But fortunately, some fans are finally coming to realize that the US Capitol Albums are not "the devil's brew", and that most of them are indeed enjoyable and nicely marketed. I recently listened to one of Steve's podcasts with Mr. Spizer, for instance, who enjoys them.

I wouldn't place any of the Capitol Hybrid Beatles albums above the EMI releases. The Capitol MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR 'hybrid' LP has now been placed above the inconvenient and badly-sequenced British EP's, which was how they "were supposed to be". Now, the Capitol Version is the regular version all around.

Now, the Capitol Version is the regular version all around. Magical Mystery Tour was rightly made an 'official' Beatles album. I am not sure I can say the same for the earlier Capitol albums. But I am also not writing them off as irrelevant either. I'll also give a shout out for the 'Hey Jude' album. Mainly because of it's cool cover and the fact that, despite not being given an official UK release, I remember it being everywhere when it was released! I like most of the songs on it as well. Before 'Past Masters' it was a worthy addition to any Beatles fans album collection. There was a time when the Beatles Red and Blue albums were my introduction to the band. These compilation releases are necessary to turn casual fans into hardcore ones. So 'Pure McCartney' is fine by me. Paul has hardly milked this market has he? 'Wings Greatest', "All the Best" and "Wingspan" are his only studio compilations spanning 46 years of solo material. And if you don't want to buy it you can always compile it yourself.

My Pure McCartney came as promised Friday morning. I was very disappointed that Amazon Prime did not include it also for free AutoRip for us purchasers of the hard copy so with a click of a button I would have those songs comprising 4 CD discs in my iTunes library and a second press of a button to be on my iPod 4. I will have to do it the "old-fashioned" way of ripping each disc to my iTunes library. That was important because Friday I had to hit the road which is the perfect time and place for Pure McCartney! I did bring the Deluxe version with me but I didn't want to fumble with the Discs while driving. Thus I have not even opened my Pure McCartney yet and until I hit the road again, I need to figure out when I have the time at home to sit down and listen to all four Discs in one sitting! I cannot listen to just one Disc each evening, it is all or nothing for me. It may be a long time before I even listen to this because I have no time to travel this summer because of work!

I'd have to skip about half the songs and add about that many.
Oh yeah, and play it in random too.
But that's just me.

The JSD Pure McCartney Countdown was much beloved and followed I'll have you know! Each day was not just a reminder of this crucial new release of songs personally curated by Paul McCartney himself but brought an inspiring and unique image of Paul that made one crave the music all the more! I can't tell the folks who feel a void in their lives since June 10th because they miss my little treat to everyone. I miss it too! I just need to be able to find four hours at a time so I can play Pure McCartney! I am one of those who must play all of the White Album, Blue Album, Red Album, etc., each listening session and so it goes with this four Disc compilation.

At least the hybrids have something to cling to, a small semblance of significance. There's more significance than that for the wonderful hybrids... albums like MEET THE BEATLES, THE BEATLES' SECOND ALBUM, SOMETHING NEW, BEATLES '65, BEATLES VI and YESTERDAY...AND TODAY all contain great singles and their B-Sides, all right along with the rest of the album. So you don't have to run around playing dozens of cumbersome 7" 45's to get all the rest, or that idiotically titled and unimaginatively designed PAST MASTERS concoction! BEATLES VI premiered the song "Bad Boy". THE BEATLES' SECOND ALBUM premiered "Long Tall Sally" and "I Call Your Name" before the clumsy UK EP.. SOMETHING NEW contained "Komm, Gib Mir Deine Hand". Your move.

The truth is, the EMI releases are the premiums, the others, they are what you were served.

I just scratched the surface. The truth is, just because EMI released the albums how they did, does not mean they are necessarily the best results. The UK version of REVOLVER is the only album that is superior to the US Capitol, IMO.

And while everyone is entitled to his own listening preferences, I don't understand why a compilation, such as the Red Album or the new PURE McCARTNEY would need to be heard "as a whole." Maybe because Paul selected the running order? JcS

Joey, I am simply compulsive on that with albums. As I say, I have never just played Disc 1 of the White Album and walked away from Disc 2! Even if I have a time constraint I will put the world on hold and play Disc 2(and not skip "Revolution No. 9."). This obsessive compulsion will get the best of me though with this four disc Pure McCartney as it is over four hours of songs curated by Paul himself. This happened to me with Bob Dylan: The Bootleg Series, Vol. 12: The Cutting Edge 1965 – 1966 Deluxe Edition which is six (6) Discs and I put on over my Bluetooth speakers the free Amazon Prime AutoRip at the start and listened to what would be the songs on all six discs in one sitting and now I never want to hear 1965 to 1966 Dylan again! I plan to sit for all four Pure McCartney Discs this weekend! Vectisfabber, I understand why you don't want PM. As a U.K. Beatles Firstie, you have been there done that when it was happening. In Paul's case, you followed him right from 1970 to this day although I believe you have said that Paul has disappointed you at times in his solo career. I didn't knowingly join the team until September 1975 when Venus And Mars was his current offering so I need a personally curated compilation by Paul to help me put Paul's solo career in proper context. You Firsties didn't need the Blue or Red albums either but those were vital for us Second Generation fans.
