And I pray to all deities that MY VALENTINE remains in the set list! It's not only a beautiful song, JSD, but it just so happens to be "our song" for my girlfriend and I. We met each other very close to its release, and it's always been perfect for us. My girlfriend in particular adores the song and gets all teary-eyed whenever she hears it. She is a professional singer, and she honored me at my 50th birthday party one year with a version of it that she sang to me. So there! In my opinion, My Valentine will end up being a greater standard tune than Yesterday. It's a love song for the ages, which Yesterday is not. It expresses a lovely sentiment that Yesterday does not. Mothers will be singing it to their babies. I'm with you here, Joe. I have never seen Yesterday as a love song. To me it is a song about loss. The singer does not indicate how they treated the person they lost. It reveals to the singer the flaws that they have in the relationship. I don't see Yesterday ever losing its status as Paul's most covered song in his ca

It reveals to the singer the flaws that they have when in a relationship. I don't see Yesterday ever losing its status as Paul's most covered song in his catalogue.

It is simple (lyric wise) but it works.

Who knows "My Valentine" other than Beatles fans? The general public sure doesn't know it. It is okay but it just seems out of place with Paul's other concert songs. I will not openly and loudly "Boo" when Paul does this like I did in 2013 but I like my idea of feigning sleep during it, sorry but I have a right to protest it. I heard "Yesterday" the other day while playing the album HELP! and it was awesome and bittersweet to hear Paul's singing voice back when he had a great one. The song really struck me like it hasn't done since 1975 when I first became a fan. I believe in yesterday! P.S. "Dizzy Miss Lizzy" sounded awesome coming right after "Yesterday," a masterful segue by the Beatles!

My Valentine won't succeed due to the poor vocal from the singer, or in Paul's case, ex singer.
It's far from one of his better songs, the melody is not strong enough to compensate for his pedestrian vocal.

True, it's no classic virtuoso love song like George's redundant "Can't Stop Thinking About Yoooooo-uhh--ooou--uuu-oooo!"

Why do you keep resorting to comparisons with George when we are discussing Paul. Even John, with his nasal vocal style and rudimentary guitar playing, wouldn't have helped this shite song.

I think it will end up being performed by other people far more than Yesterday. Picture weddings, anniversaries, Sweet 16s, even funerals. It seems to me to have more circumstances for renderings than Yesterday.

It seems to me to have more circumstances for renderings than Yesterday. That is very true. "My Valentine" is a love song in a happier context and thus many should be able to share the sentiments together in community like those fine examples you gave. "Yesterday's" universal appeal though, as we all know, is that everyone's heart gets broken thus "Yesterday" appeals to us but it must be listened to alone. It is not a party song to be shared, not at least in a healthy setting! But the performance of "My Valentine" is still important to its staying power in the future as a viable song that stands apart from its composer. It has to be heard and liked to be appreciated. "Yesterday" was recorded at the right time for Paul McCartney, he, John, George and Ringo ruled the Pop world! Paul was about at the height of his vocal prowess, physical appeal and certainly in the height of his commercial success. Unfortunately for "My Valentine," it was recorded by a Paul McCartney no longer commanding a great set of pipes and was placed on an album of mostly covers of songs from a very long ago generation said album failing to inspire many people other than the usual suspects. If "My Valentine" is going to take off as a song recorded by many, it better start happening!

Boy, what is Paul going to say when he finally kicks the bucket, goes thru the Pearly Gates, and has to learn all those new Harrison/Lennon songs (that Dick James and Brian Epstein have copyrighted in that fashion for eternity) that he will have to share bass duties on with Stu and play on in Brian's first ever All-Heaven Reunion Tour by The Beatles.......??

I like "Mumbo" (and "Monkberry Moon Delight"!) but I don't think they would be good songs to do live. And I kinda didn't like the "so good, so good" because I don't like the "audience participation Sweet Caroline" that much. I'd rather just hear Neil sing it by himself. Kind of like Paul and "Hey Jude"

But come on cosmo, did you shout out the , "So good, so good" even if feeling guilty about it!? Even I get involved with that, and I don't even do any group things like flag salute, National Anthem, "Take Me Out to the Ball Game," "na, na na's" in Hey Jude, the wave, etc.

I will concede that "My Valentine" is a well written song and maybe you are right, it is one for the ages but I can't get past Paul's vocal. If only he could have sung it in his Red Rose Speedway voice then maybe I would love it like you. I still think it came too late in his career just like John's "Grow Old With Me" although there are some great covers of John's late-in-life gem that was not recorded properly because John's time ran out. But some of those covers are absolutely gorgeous. If only John could have finished it in the studio!

I hadn't thought of it until you mentioned it, but I think it would be stunning and very emotional on many levels. First, sorrow that he was never able to grow old with neither John, nor Linda. Second, as a song to us. Third, as an understanding that Paul's years are getting shorter and shorter. The state of his voice today might give it a rare resonance.

I think that would be an amazing tribute! I would love if Paul had real strings on it but he would do it justice, it would be very poignant! I listened to "My Valentine" tonight and it is kind of sad or has a sad vibe to it even if it is not about breaking up. It has a Sinatra vibe, LOL, I could see Paul with his suit jacket slung over his shoulder singing it next to a city streetlamp in some dark, moody video!

I love Glen Campbell's version. It would be cool if Wix used George Martin's score.
