Sooo, I went on Steve's link at three o'clock today to place my order for the Beatles Stereo Remaster Boxed Set at amazon and (neanderthal procrastinator bongo drum roll please) They are SOLD OUT of the initial purchase. HELP ME IF YOU CAN I'M FEELIN' DOW HOWUN! Is anyone aware of another RELIABLE site that is still offering the set for $179.00? I am counting upon the extensive resources of the abbeyrd collective on this one. I just can NOT believe that I am about to be, going to get effed, by a day, on this penultimate Beatles' release... ARRRRRGGGGHHHH! Cosmos

Walmart is matching Amazon's price: www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=11996870I'm in the same boat. I wanted to wait and see if the set would actually be worth it or not so have held off as close to release as possible. My problem now is if stereo is actually the way to go. When talk about the new sets started I was 99% sure I wouldn't be interested in the mono set but after doing some more reading and putting some thought into it I'm second-guessing whether I should've gotten in the mono boat sooner. Any chance there will be new mono boxes available by the end of the month?

What are my chances of being able to buy a STEREO box set on the afternoon of 9/9/09 at Wal-Mart or Best Buy?

ARRRRRGGGGHHHH! Cosmos Cosmos and everyone: I made a post at Examiner.com yesterday on this situation with links to places I found still had the boxes: www.examiner.com/x-2082-Beatles-Examiner~y2009m8d28-Beatles-remastered-CD-update-how-limited-is-the-mono-boxed-set-2-CDpromo-on-eBayAs for the whole situation, I wish I had the power. I've been trying to get word from Capitol of some positive news. As soon as I get it, I'll post it either at the Examiner site or here. If it's there, I'll mention it here...

Thanks Steve,
I just placed an order through Walmart.com, chose the cheapest shipping option, and I'll be receiving the item between the following Monday and Wednesday. I waited a long time for these and I can wait another week.

COOL! Thanks nowheretogo, I have managed to place my order at Wallyworld and should only be penalized a couple of days for my cyber-space ignorance. I friggin' can't wait to hear the sonic excellence that awaits me. I agree with you though...I have also heard that the Mono Set kicks ass; however most of us, even if we count ourselves as "true" fans can, only afford much. We'll just have to trust to the netherworld of cyber-space to provide us with what we cannot pay to get at this moment in time... My "shout outs" go WAY out to; nowheretogo, John S. Damn, Steve Marinucci, fabfour & of course Rocko Roll for making this site THE place to be for Beatle fans! There is simply no better Beatle community here on the web.

And, thank you to nowheretogo for the link as well.
I'm bypassing the Mono Box because I have most of it in various formats (old vinyl, first four from '87, singles box set, EP box set, Capitol sets, friend dubbing me a copy of the white album). As much fun it is to listen to the variations, I don't listen to them too often.
Having AHDN and BFS in stereo is one reason I'm going for the stereo box. Also, being a graphic artist, I've always wanted to own a Beatles catalog consistently, and nicely packaged. The "vocals-on-one-side, instruments-on-the-other" only becomes an issue for me if I use headphones.

The good thing is the stereo box is not a limited edition. So if you can't find it on 9/9/09, you'll eventually be able to pick it up down the road. For collector's like me, the limited edition mono box seems to be an issue at the moment. Regards, Beatle Bob

While I pre-ordered both Mono and Stereo Boxes(Mono from Best Buy.com and Stereo from Amazon.com, using SteveM. links), my credit card has only been provisionally charged(it goes towards the credit limit but won't appear on the newest statement) and I won't believe I was lucky enough to snag them at those "low" prices until they are delivered. My wife hit the roof when I confessed to her last night of purchasing these. She wanted to get me the Stereo Box for my birthday which isn't until the end of October. I tried to tell her that these are selling like hotcakes but her good feelings of my upcoming birthday turned to anger when I said I planned on robbing savings to pay off the credit card account once it is fully charged. A guy can't win. It is the Beatles' remasters, damn-it!

Well I am disgusted. In the words of Tom Petty, "Don't Do Me LIke That"
I am ticked off that they are trying to force me to take out a bank loan (i.e., use a credit card) to get this, as it's starting to sound like there may be no in-store availability.
It's all about the music to me and I really can live without the glossy packaging and that DVD, especially now, on general principle. So here is my new strategy:
On 9-9 I will be at my local Best Buy when it opens. --If the mono box set happens to be there, I will buy it (first choice) --If the stereo box set happens to be there, but not the mono box set, I will buy that (second choice) --If neither box set is there, I will buy individual CDs --If both box sets are there, I might just use that "bank loan"/credit card and get both.
I have a feeling I will be able to hear the mono White Album remaster at some point, probably a track at a time. I have mono and stereo mixes of some Beatles songs, and glenn1966 is right - they are fun to have but I don't listen to them very often.

Steve, thanks for the article from Friday, very helpful!
Further thoughts on this mono vs. stereo debate - I got introduced through the 1987 CDs and didn't hear any of the stereo versions of the Beatles' early songs until the Capitol box set. That collection was a pretty big wake up for me to hear. The stereo element widens the sound to my ears, in a way that there's more space for the sound, and I can definitely notice the instruments a lot more clearly in those mixes. Yet at the same time, I do listen through headphones a lot and just slapping the vocals to the right channel seems so out of place. To me the lead vocal should be smack dab in the middle and the right and left channels should only be used for harmonies or vocal movement.
All in all, from what I've read about the story behind putting the stereo mixes together, the recordings just were not designed for the medium at all until a certain point in the group's history. At what stage that took place is obviously up for debate. I've read some negative things about the 1987 Help! and Rubber Soul stereo mixes but I love them, especially the latter. The difference in clarity between Rubber Soul and Revolver is a big reason why I enjoy the former leaps and bounds above the later album.
But anyway that's my two cents for the time being. I think I'll pick them up eventually after the dust settles. I can't imagine Capitol won't create more, especially in time for the holidays, if they get this "sold out" marketing gimmick it can use.

I think A Hard Day's Night is the first LP that was "designed" for stereo. In 1987, I could accept the first two in mono, but not the second two in stereo.

For those of us who haven't got the remasters yet.....Has there been any word on when the stereo box set will be available again? Sometime in October perhaps?

Once I recieved my "SORRY FOR THE TEASE" notice from Wally-World, I re-ordered from my initial choicem which was amazon. They claimed delivery between Sept. 28th & Oct. 8th when I placed this new order,,,and I am STILL waiting for a ship notice from them. Don't know what to tell ya martinservais. I fell pretty screwed in the whole deal; it seems that I procrastinated a day too long and have been hanging out in "order-placed" limbo ever since...

Steve; My order has not been "cancelled" either, however when I placed it 3 weeks ago the estimated delivery was Sept.28th - Oct.8th and it is now the fifth of October and all I have to show for it thus far is that my order has been confirmed and there is still no money out of my account and no "ship notice" yet from Amazon...the site basicall states "be patient; we will ship as soon as the product is available.

Didn't Steve report that Nov. 1 might be when more boxes will be shipped out? Geez, wasn't there a rapid, almost overnight turnaround to stamp new covers on 1966's Yesterday and Today and/or destroy the Butcher Covers and get new ones back out to the stores? What is taking so long to make and distribute more Stereo and Mono boxes?

Dang it JSD... If only you had really bought those extra ten copies you were talking about; you'd have me over a barrel at this point! The closest viable retail outlet from where I live is over one hundred miles away round trip! I just CANNOT believe my misfortune. Amazon originally "sold out" literally HOURS before I went to place my order on that fateful day (August 29th to be exact), which was about a week before the 09/09/09 release date...

I caved and started buying them separately. All I need is Magical Mystery Tour. I'm going to wait 'til ones with the corrected label hit the stores...hopefully by Christmas.

P.P.S. Between Amazon & Wally-World, at this point my "enjoyment" of the greatest Beatle event in over ten years has been bastardized and basically ruined for me. Perhaps J.S.D. would consider representing glenn 1966, martinservais, myself and anyone else in the free world who has been cheated and duped with MONTHS of accrued pain & suffering? It is no small wonder that the ever-reliable and FREE connections on the internet have become the last resort (if not first choice for many, which of course hurts all of the musicians involved) for music loving people all over the world. Friggin' DELIVER the official product and we will all gladly pay for it; but this whole Beatles' Re-Masters Event has all been a bloody fiasco of supply and demand from Apple all the way down to the individual retailers and customers in my opionion!

Just popped in long enough to announce that my Stereo Boxed Set FINALLY arrived TODAY! I think my loving wife must have deleted the "ship notice" so that it would still come as somewhat of a surprise for me (bless her). I sincerely hope that all of the others here, who have likewise been waiting on amazon, are also good to go this week-end. I have already called my boss with the "bad news"...day off tomorrow with John, Paul George & Ringo...whoopee!
