Was there some sort of flub on the chicken squak transition between "Good Morning, Good Morning" and "Sgt. Pepper reprise" ? If so, will the Mono Box set version have that fixed?
It really sticks out like a sore thumb.
I'm listening to a dubbed copy of it and it sounds as if someone didn't lift the pause button fast enough.

The squak is supposed to be there. Pepper just wouldn't be the same without it.

Pepper will probably be my first listen when/if I get my hands on a mono box. Can't wait to hear it how the band intended!!!

The squak is my favourite bit on the whole album. Leave it in, I say.

I understand it's supposed to be there.
When I compare the mono vs. stereo, the squak on the mono's version doesn't sound as "smooth" as the stereo version.
Let me rephrase the question: Did the original mono LP have it that way? And if it WAS originally that way, would the new version have it fixed as to match the stereo version.

Amazing...simply amazing. I have been trying for YEARS to convince my "Firstie" siblings, and anyone else who would listen, that there even IS a difference between the Mono & Stereo versions, and here we are as a group pointing out and arguing these subtle variations BEFORE the bloody re-masters have even come out. Steve; we may need a whole new discussion thread to cover this aspect of the recorded Beatles when the music becomes available to all of us, in it's true re-mastered glory!
P.S. I seem to recall a period interview in which the so-called "chicken squawk" fading into the guitar was hailed at the time as a masterpiece of modern editing performed by George Martin...I believe that Lennon was the source on that one.

The chicken squak was and is brilliant and it sounds great on my regular stereo CD. I think it even goes from one channel to the other.

Glenn, the rooster (or chicken) crow is still weird on the mono remaster coming out today(09/09/09). It is rather jarring, not in a particularly bad way, very different from the stereo version we've known for all these years. To me Sgt. Pepper Reprise is one of the best, most exciting songs on the mono version. I am hearing talking and yelling in it I never heard before.

Even just from the get-go, the opening guitar jabs on SPLHCB (opening track) leap out (in mono!) and grab you. The album has so much more kick and punch in mono and offers a more powerful presentation of the album (even without all the mixing and speed variations) compared to the stereo release.
