LOL, I recently bought a dvd version of MMT from amazon.com for $7.99! The reviews of the dvd quality(versus reviews of the film itself) were terrible but I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the audio and visual. Sure, the color is a little faded out but only the clips that we saw from Anthology are gloriously restored. The songs on this thing actually sound good. The bottom line is this dvd is just a little bit less quality than my official Apple VHS tape of MMT(I think it is an official Apple release from the early 1990's). This dvd I just bought is clearly a bootleg which makes me wonder why amazon.com is selling it but I am glad to have MMT in dvd format for ease in reference if I need to. There are no "extras" and the final Scene Selection page is hard to navigate but then again, $7.99 is not a lot of money. It will do until we get the real thing officially re-released and cleaned-up from Apple. Looking at amazon.com, what I bought must be a 2006 knock-off from a 1997 dvd version which may not have been legal either. One reviewer says that if one has the VHS version(as I do), that is the best format to date for this movie until a re-issued MMT can be released on dvd. I don't know if there is a better version out there but for $7.99 I do not feel ripped off in the least. I do wish Apple would give us a gloriously restored version of MMT with lots of "extras" to flush the market of these knock-offs and give us a quality product.

I think Apple briefly licensed the DVD release as I bought my copy in a legit store in 2000. The music is 2 channel stereo. The video is as grainy as the VHS release. If you play it on your PC, there is a secret outtake of the Beatles performing Magical Mystery Tour in full Pepper outfits

I kicked myself for not buying it and waiting to play it later once I bought a player. I bet mine was recorded off those briefly sold MMT dvd's from which you bought yours. Remember AHDN and Help were out on dvd before they were pulled to do the so-called "ultimate" re-issues, the AHDN one which we all argued over once re-released! ;D I am liking the MMT movie more each time I see it. It captures The Beatles at the end of their "Friendly Period" because by MMT John was already seeing Yoko although the relationship was intellectual rather than physical if the JohnandYoko P.R. machine is to be believed. The filming of MMT caused John, Paul, George and Ringo to be in close quarters with each other in places outside of the recording studios for about the last time.

Pepper special (Chronicles) before they conceived of Magical mystery Tour.

The music really jumped out on them after years of really crummy audio when these were played on late night t.v. or after-school programming.

Perhaps we could create some form of sarcasm meter as a visual aid for the impaired? The reality of this release, if it comes as advertised, does confound me though. I have seen some out-take material (as in the "Wicked Forest dance" which was scrubbed for instance) but I am truly at a loss as to how they have come up with a FOUR DISC Blu-Ray Set composed entirely of the MGM Wizard of Oz. Perhaps JoeKarlosi will have the inside dope?

The blu-ray.com page above had a link with Amazon where you click the price and it takes you to the Amazon.com Magical Mystery Tour page. It said that it was available Oct 9th. I pre-ordered it. Now it says you sign up to be notified when the disc becomes available.

00:02:38:25 HERE WE GO ROUND THE MULBERRY BUSH - TRAFFIC Maybe that is home footage of a pissed of John Lennon ripping the signs off the bus as the crowds of fans and press were following the MMT bus! That would be better than anything in the movie itself.

I thoiught it was a bonus feature of the bus getting stuck in traffic! ;D Ah, the hazard of guessing Apple extras.

This is on sale in Aust. now. I bought the DVD edition yesterday, but haven't actually watched it yet. I've had a bootleg for a number of years, so I know what to expect. The extras are basically as gloi posted above.
I'm disappointed with the packaging. It's just a standard plastic case with a token booklet inside. No outer slipcase. Nowhere as good as the previous Yellow Submarine and Help! releases. I must admit the boxed version looks very nice though.

I have the box set coming around Friday of next week. I'm not sure why I need a vinyl double disc ep but I guess I'll have one.
They should vary the package so you can buy what you need/want.
I have the remastered Magical Mystery Tour cd but they should offer that in the package, as well as a bonus cd of alternate takes.
They should add a dvd/blu-ray of just the music portion of the film. Paul, everyone always says that the film is great if just for the music. Well give us a disc with just the music videos (leave the little nicola dickie birds in the Walrus vid).

A semi-review from Kevin Clark, a Beatles Remixer group member. "The BBC screened the new restored MMT print last night in HD. I thought it looked a little overprocessed, overexposed, and the colours rather mooted and too red. But what I noticed at the start of the film's "Magical Mystery Tour" song is that John's "Hurry Hurry Hurry, Step Right This Way" spoken bit is no longer there on this remixed stereo soundtrack but you still hear him speak in the middle bit inside the shop "When a man buys a ticket..." etc). Of the new remixes, "I Am The Walrus" sounded the best to my ears. The BBC Arena documentary that preceeded it was very good - I recorded it to a Blu-ray for future enjoyment Hopefully my arriving-soon Blu-ray Special Edition set will look better (although the Blu-ray and the TV broadcast are both at 1080i). Another new documentary "Love Me Do 62" is on the BBC tonight."

According to someone who commented on my article, the song by Traffic was cut from MMT. It later became a movie of its own. The song by Traffic later became the title song of the movie Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush (music mostly by the Spencer Davis Group (who were actually in the movie playing at a church dance!), of whom Steve Winwood was only recently a member. This was a coming of age comedy drama based on a novel by Beatles biographer (and Lennon letters editor) Hunter Davies. Book and film both very much of their time, but recommended nonetheless.

'Course it does - it was the Fabs, and merits attention solely because of that. It was also their only major creative misstep (at least, the only one with which they went public during their active lifetime), and merits even more detailed consideration because of that.

Interestingly, after seeing it on the Big Screen with an appreciative audience the other night. I no longer feel that MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR is a 'piece of shite', nor do I think it was a "misstep'. Yes, I realize that it was a misstep in the context of the time it was issued, but time has been extremely kind to this film, and 45 years later I really think it's a creative and interesting psychedelic trip. And -- as always with The Beatles - way ahead of its time.

And -- as always with The Beatles - way ahead of its time. Hey, there is real hope then that in 2029 (45 years after its release), Give My Regards To Broadstreet will have a revival! I agree that time but more important restoration has been good to MMT. I even enjoyed it much more the last two times I watched it on the bootleg dvd(but purchased from amazon.com) described in this Thread's opening post and that wasn't great audio or visual. I can't wait to see the restored version! I think though it is fun now for strictly nostalgia reasons, seeing the Beatles from 1967 in much better film quality. There is still a complete lack of story to the film but just seeing our heroes right after their Sgt. Pepper triumph in restored picture and sound is just so cool! And they still act like Beatles, like they still like each other and enjoy each others company. I'll pick it up tonight and I think I'll buy a Blu-Ray player as that is the future it seems
