'Walls and Bridges' has always been my favorite John Lennon album. It's the one that got me back into his music, especially with it's companion single 'Whatever Gets You Through The Night'. I felt that John got his musical muse back with 'W&B', though it is interesting to note that he didn't think much about it years later despite it bringing him back into the charts. I still wish that Yoko had issued the remastered CD version of the album with John's original cover design as is instead of the cover she put out which I thought was so wrong, as well as putting the wrong label design on the CD with mis-implied that she was involved in the original album when in fact she had nothing to do with the original production. Current 'Walls And Bridges' CD Japanese CD version with John Lennon's original cover design intact I bought that Japanese Walls And Bridges and absolutely love having the original album artwork reproduced for a tiny compact disc. It is a cool thing to hold but not as cool as holding the original album version. I agree, Johnny. I have the original album and always loved John's cover concept. It's just a shame that newer fans who purchase the current CD and don't know about John's original cover idea won't realize that it's not what John had intended. Darn that Yoko. She's E-val! (To JoeK: )

(To JoeK: ) I've said this before but I'll say it again.... I don't like the disc artwork. It is from Happy Xmas (War Is Over) period not 1974, AND.... I hate how the Lennon film clip DVD has the Whatever Gets You Through The Night clip re-cut to accompany Mind Games! Perhaps Yoko was uncomfortable with this release given that it was from the Lost Weekend???

He said that in 1980 and that was just John's spin. Double Fantasy wasn't inspired. He spent years on some of those songs with Woman being an exception. I too am fond of Walls & Bridges. It took the Lennon Anthology for me to appreciate it. Walls And Bridges sounds all of 1974. But that's something I love about that record. Bless You is so 1974 and so cool because of that for me.

It took the Lennon Anthology for me to appreciate it. I've always liked WALLS AND BRIDGES too, and long before there was any Lennon Anthology. But I think you're harsh in using the term "spin" with regard to John's looking back to the album in 1980. People's minds change, sometimes as they go through different periods they look back and have other thoughts as to what state they were in back when. And I do believe DOUBLE FANTASY was inspired. Even if some of the songs had been worked on during the late '70s, that doesn't mean he wasn't inspired to write them for some reason. I don't believe something has to be "immediately done and finished right there on the spot" in order to be inspired. Whether his 1980s songs are inspired or not most of them had been more finely crafted than the tracks on Walls And Bridges. I think had he lived longer he would have come to change his attitude to Walls. It isn't a perfect record but it has some great moments on it. This album was a creeper for me. I bought it and it gathered dust for many years until one day it just right up and hit me in the back of the head.

That exactly describes what happened to me with Paul's Wings Wild Life, George's Living In The Material World and The Beach Boys Pet Sounds. I was too immature when I first heard those three albums but as I grew older and faced the burdens of adulthood, I came to appreciate and love those albums.

I got into Wild Life pretty early on and still love it. Material World is yet to get me. I'm 43 now so there's still a few years left!

Current 'Walls And Bridges' CD Japanese CD version with John Lennon's original cover design intact I have gone on record before as saying that I too was disappointed with the changing of the WALLS AND BRIDGES cover for the CD. I also thought it was really wrong of Yoko to insert that "Sometime in NYC" JohnandYoko morphing label with her image onto the CD itself. Of all the things people have complained about regarding Yoko, this is the one I have been MOST in agreement with. So please, everyone take note of this and realize that it's not true that I always think Yoko is right or not guilty. Having said that -- I don't believe the cover art itself was anything "evil" (and yes, I saw the winky emoticon) and I think Yoko had a good intention there, trying to make the cover more visible with John's image.

Having said that -- I don't believe the cover art itself was anything "evil" (and yes, I saw the winky emoticon) and I think Yoko had a good intention there, trying to make the cover more visible with John's image. I am the same way, I was mildly disappointed in the changes and I always prefer original album artwork to be preserved( The Best Of George Harrison and Driving Rain might be the two exceptions). I was most bothered by the SINYC morphing of J & Y on the W & B c.d. itself because that is just historically wrong in terms of images. Those are 1972 photos and it does suggest Yoko was more involved in the album than she was; at least the new W & B cover has a 1974 image of John. As JoeK said, the cover change may have simply been to make it obvious to younger kids that this was a John Lennon album. I wish Yoko hadn't approved that change but I won't get mad about it. I understand OldFred's stronger opinions because he was there when the album was first released. I didn't buy W & B until about 1976 although I found an original artwork version. I think by the 1980's the cover of the W & B wouldn't open up in sections but was just the solid drawing of the attacking American Indians. The Japanese version of this should be hunted down for us purists. I used a gift card for it least my wife scream, "You paid our hard-earned money on a c.d. you have two other versions of and the vinyl record in addition!?" Welcome to JSDland!

A little peek into JSD land. What must Mrs. D think now that the Mono set is much more affordable than it was months ago?

I don't even want to know what the Mono Box cost now! Regardless of the changed artwork, the re-issued Walls And Bridges sounds amazing. It is really vibrant and packs a punch as I am listening to it now.

John's solo career is easily the most disappointing of all the ex-Beatles when compared to what he did with the Beatles for me
IMAGINE DOUBLE FANTASY MILK AND HONEY PLASTIC ONO BAND MIND GAMES WALLS AND BRIDGES SOMETIME IN NEW YORK CITY ROCK AND ROLL
Put the Lennon songs from DF and MAH on one album and that would be my #1.
