Thanks lowbasso and OldFred! Yeah, Halloween is a cool day for a birthday!
lowbasso, Bobby Knight's 70th birthday was on October 25th. That means he and John Lennon were almost identical in age! Man, talk about two guys of the same generation but of vastly different points of view! ;D Both men though could scare the crap out of others, particularly when they got mad and yelled!

I had the "good fortune" to be working stage crew in 1978 for the Musical Arts Center at IU while I was a student there and we were told to go over to Assembly Hall to pick up some risers to bring back to the Arts Center. We walked into Assembly Hall in the middle of a basketball practice, which were always closed, and Knight just exploded into a tirade of profanity at us. We hightailed it out of there pronto!. What I wouldn't have given to have run into John & Yoko in Central Park in the late 70's and asked for his autograph only to be told I could stick it where the sun doesn't shine, or something to that effect!! Ah! If only...... (And I would have easily tolerated meeting Yoko... ;D ;D ;D)

Knight was the one-time guest lecturer in a course I took and some kids were a micro-second late and they got thrown out of the class by Knight who was like a sub that day! He had one of the girls in tears which I thought was kind of cold but hey, in the real world being late is a bad habit! I know Judges who are jerks if lawyers are a micro-second late to Court so Knight might have been teaching tough love, or he really was an a-hole that day! ;D

Thanks niner, scouser, and the mikester! I did eat a lot of candy but brought a ton to the office for the staff to enjoy! The real candy I want is the two women of ABBA as I keep looking at that photo OldFred posted(trying to ignore those two dudes, they are no Tony Hicks!). nine, early Sunday morning I watched my live Avett Brothers dvd and part of my new Springsteen concert dvd called London Calling: Live in Hyde Park. Birthday or not, I got chewed out the next day for playing the soundtracks too loud!

Joe, you always give the best lists of scary movies. Do you like the new ones like Paranormal Activity 2? The first one scared the crap out of me because it was set in such a normal setting, a modern townhouse. My wife and I live in a scary old house nearly 100 years old and I sometimes think I'm like George Lutz(sp?) from The Amityville Horror.

I have watched thousands of horror films in my life and have never really been "scared" by them except for a handful. But the first PARANORMAL ACTIVITY was one that gave me the creeps. I liked that it succeeded on such a simple premise and very limited budget, set in a house and with no effects other than a simple camera in a bedroom. I thought that level of effectiveness was quite an achievement. I turned to my wife and told her: "Please don't ever get up and stand next to me and watch me sleep like that!!" I didn't like PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2, only because it was more of the same and not as strong the second time.

You are right that PA was scary on a simple premise. I loved how it built up the scares to the very end. Actually some of the subtle things scared me more than the big finale(no spoilers here). I should have asked you for an update on your famous list of scary movies as I'm sure you discover new, great ones all the time but I was too busy this Fall to watch a lot. Plus, my wife has put the brakes on me reserving lots of horror flicks from Netflix, even the classic ones from the 1940's, 50's and 60's. It is not her bag. Joe, we watched 2009's The Eclipse and even my wife liked it because the acting was superb and the scares mostly subtle although there were a few that caused me to scream scaring my wife and our dog! I am secretly getting Survival Of The Dead which she will hate. She does not like zombie movies. As some know here, I fully believe in the possibility of zombies but not from supernatural causes or outerspace causes but by biological or viral mutations and/or germ warfare. Basically, I believe rabies-like illnesses could cause humans in mass to become homicidal, flesh eating creatures as portrayed in some movies. Consistent with local zoning laws and my neighbors' patience, I am slowly and subtley making my home and property zombie-proof. It is expensive but will be worthwhile when some terrorist group releases germ or biological bombs and people are in rabies-like states of homicidal mayhem.

Care to elaborate for us, or is that material for a new thread - or dare I say - a pm? Well, as far as I know zombies don't frequent Message Boards to read about my defenses but generally speaking: 1. Solid Steel doors with no windows, good. 2. Electronically open/close metal window covers that can withstand even small IED blasts, good(need a generator, gas powered, if electricity fails). 3. Interior entry door to house roof with railed walking decks from which to fire live ammo at zombies surrounding house, very good. 4. Flood lights, motion sensors, standard steel fencing, good. 5. Fire pits with remote controlled fire starters, very good(but hide from local authorities and refrain from urge to fire those pits up when religious solicitors come knocking!). 6. Claymore mines excellent but illegal by most zoning ordinances. 7. Razor wire fencing very good but illegal by most zoning ordinances because pesky urchins get caught in them too. 8. Escape tunnels good as long as properly secured(also great place to keep wine collection). 9. C.B. Radio in "safe room" if house penetrated. 10.Lots of rifles and handguns with even more ammo. That's all I feel like disclosing to get you started Winston. It is never too early to start. Good luck: your family deserves this!

Sunday morning(post-midnight), I watched alone George A. Romero's Survival Of The Dead. This movie poses the age-old question: Can a caring family coexist with their flesh-eating loved ones? Family members who were zombies were chained in a room or out in the yard and they just kept going through the motions of their routine! I said nothing to my wife the next day but if she becomes a flesh-eating zombie, she's toast!
