GEORGE HARRISON, Side 1 vs. RAM, Side 2
GEORGE HARRISON, Side 1
1. "Love Comes to Everyone" – 4:36 2. "Not Guilty" – 3:35 3. "Here Comes the Moon" – 4:48 4. "Soft-Hearted Hana" – 4:03 5. "Blow Away" – 4:00
RAM, Side 2
1. "Heart of the Country" 2:21 2. "Monkberry Moon Delight" 5:21 3. "Eat at Home" 3:18 4. "Long Haired Lady" 5:54 5. "Ram On (Reprise)" 0:52 6. "The Back Seat of My Car" 4:26
Paul seeks his revenge here, as GH1 took out RRS 2 by a 12-4 margin in the first round. RAM 2 barely got by W&B 1 by a score of 11-10.

Okay -this is tough so I'm going to do something I haven't done yet- retrieve previous scores.
RAM, Side 2
1. Heart of the Country 8 2. Monkberry Moon Delight 6.5 3. Eat at Home 9.5 McCartney does Holly 4. Long Haired Lady 9.5 I know its sappy but I've always liked this 5. Ram On (Reprise) 8 nice tune but doesn't need a reprise UPDATE- I realized that Big Barn Bed is part of the reprise and like that link- so I gave it an extra point 6. The Back Seat of My Car 10 I think this is a great pop tune with Paul clearly channelling 1966 Brian Wilson-just upped it half point
8.58 avg.
GEORGE HARRISON, Side 1- first round I didn't score this so here goes
1. "Love Comes to Everyone" – kind of a disco-flavored song, but it has Eric on it. 7.5 2. "Not Guilty" – the White Album redo 9 3. "Here Comes the Moon" Beatlesque, well layered 10 4. "Soft-Hearted Hana" – 8 5. "Blow Away" – 9 nice single- not his best
8.7 avg.
I think with Monkberry Moon Delight being my least favorite Ram track- it takes a big enough hit to get knocked off by George
Even with my revision, George still WINS!!

Two sides I enjoy a lot, but I'm voting for RAM 2. "Back Seat Of My Car" is a musical masterpiece. A contender for my top 10 solo sides. "Eat At Home" as mentioned above has an updated Buddy Holly sound. "Heart Of The Country" could be the theme song for this period of McCartney's life. "Monkberry Moon Delight" is fun and I like the vocal round in "Long Haired Lady". The "Ram On" reprise is a nice bit too. GH 1 is very good too. I was sure "Love Comes To Everyone" would be a huge hit and was mildly surprised when "Blow Away" became the hit single (still a good song, but I didn't see it as a single). "Not Guilty" here is not as strong as the unreleased Beatles version, but is still good. "Here Comes The Moon' has some nice guitar. "Soft Hearted Hana" is pleasant enough, but nothing I get too excited by. So a slight edge to RAM 2 for me.

EXTREMELY difficult. These two sides are evenly matched for me. Both are very good.
I went with RAM here though, I think mostly because it just has more of a variety of styles to it.

GEORGE HARRISON, Side 1 Love "Monkberry Moon," but I love George's side better than Paul's here. JCV

RAM, Side 2
This wasn't too tough for me as I absolutely love all songs on Ram-2 with the exception of "Long Haired Lady" which I simply "like." "The Back Seat Of My Car" is in my top 5 solo Macca songs. "Dear Boy" from R-1 is there too.
I like GH-2 more than GH-1, in fact.

Tough one!
I went wiith GH1, I played the snot out of that side, all the tunes are A-1. Ram 2 is the albums better side, and may be Paul's best side until BOTR 1, but Eat at Home and Long Haired Lady are prure filler, I always exclude them from my comp tapes and Ipod, and I really do not need a second Ram On, a little goes a long way, you know? So half filler, but the other 3 great, I love Monkberry, silly lyrics and all.
GH is an amazing album, both sides are fantastic.

Someone is going to have to try and educate me on Back Seat of My Car. I think it's overblown, and the lyrics are ridiculous (hey, Paul, it's not subtle, man!). I also feel it's totally out of synch with the rest of the album: but don't ask me why; it's simply a feeling. Nevertheless, it adds to the down I think RAM ends on.
Side 2 starts nicely for me: Country is sweet (oh consistent Macca!), and Monkberry is great! From then on the album loses it for me.
But George Harrison Side 1 has a collection of five excellent songs. The arrangements are definitely a little bit soft for my tastes - at least in such a large dose. But no matter, because a side that contains Soft-Hearted Hana gives some latitude for the rest of the side.
Thanks for reading, and I'll now vote for George.

Easy for me as RAM is my favorite solo album.
I do have to say that I'm a bit surprised that GH is so highly regarded in every poll. To me it has always seem like a middle of the pack album, not bad by any means, but nothing special.

McCabe I had a new appreciation of the song after hearing Pet Sounds on CD (never hearing it in my youth other than the singles). Paul was clearly trying to produce his own Pet Sounds- not a blistering rocker. You have to evaluate Ram as a pop album not a rock album. Back Seat is as close to Brian Wilson as anything else he has written. There's nothing deep- just an in your car love song.

I'm partial to a bit of Ram, me. GH - not so much.

Both of these sides start and finish well. Harrison bookended the side with two singles (although "Love Comes To Everyone" didn't do well); McCartney put a subtle track in the lead-off spot and closed with more of a production number. Call it a draw to that point.
But in the middle, RAM 2 sags. I'm not a fan of "Monkberry" or "Long Haired Lady," so 11 minutes of the side don't appeal to me. "Eat At Home" is pleasant enough filler, but doesn't revive the side in the middle section. Harrison has no such problem. The trio between the pillars are solid tracks.
So GH 1 wins comfortably on my ballot.

RAM, Side 2Hmm, I with diego here, I still don't know what the big deal is with the GH album. GH-1, I suppose is a lot better than GH-2, this side (exc the first track - Faster) to me is boring...... With GH-1, I love *Love Comes to Everyone*, and *Blow Away*, the rest of tracks are average, but R-2, I love all of the tracks, its Paul at is absolute best.....

Eat at Home, meh Long Haired Lady, meh meh
George's side is superior, IMHO.

I didn't vote for GH-1 here but I must say that I am a big fan of the George Harrison album. It was an absolute relief and joy to me in 1979.
Back then I would have said that it was his best since ATMP but since then I've re-discovered Living In The Material World so now I say GH is his best since LITMW.
Like Paul's Ram, LITMW has been totally re-evaluated and is enjoying the praise that eluded it in 1973.
I can see why our big Hari fans here are voting for it. I just feel Paul went somewhere on Ram where he never went before and would never go there again because it was too funky, too flippant, too back seat of his car. After BOTR Paul had to keep up the image of cool rock star and Ram was way too down-home funky for that.

I think I prefer George Harrison as it really is a great listen throughout but Ram is nagging away at me because I love "Back Seat of My Car" more than any of George's album side and "Monkberry Moon Delight" is just crazy but I also like that one . The rest of Ram is not as good.
Hmmmmm - No I've gone for George.

Ram has a special charm for me. It might be light, but in a nice way. Light and bouncy. Maybe Paul's happiest album. Maybe the happiest album of all the Beatles' solos.

GEORGE HARRISON, Side 1 I think it's a better album side than it's opponent, hence, George gets my vote....

Never understood the appeal of Love Comes To Everyone. Zzzz.... The other four tracks are all good. Hana is a lot of fun... but...
Heart Of The Country and Monkberry are just too good....
So, despite Linda's vocals - which I think really let this side of the album down - I will go Paul.... sorry George, I know this album is a favourite of many GH fans...

A tie as I write this(Saturday morning January 15)!
Where is that Mighty Macca Army to propel Ram-2 on to victory?
Or will the stealthy Harrison guerrillas wear down the Macca Army through attrition.?

Or will the stealthy Harrison guerrillas wear down the Macca Army through attrition.? GH album is consistently good but it has no really high points. Ram may have one or two songs that weren't needed, but the highs blow the GH album away. To me its no contest, though I think this was a comeback album for George.

Hey, let's flip this around. Pretend George's album was by Paul and vice versa. Now which one would you vote for, honestly?

But every track on George Harrison side 1 is a high point! And at least 3 tracks on Ram side 2 are pointless! No contest indeed! Ram will win because of Paul's fan base here, but in no way is it better. IMO, natch.

A tie as I write this(Saturday morning January 15)! Where is that Mighty Macca Army to propel Ram-2 on to victory? Or will the stealthy Harrison guerrillas wear down the Macca Army through attrition.? JSD, besides ATMP & C9, and various singles during the 70's & *80's, I've never bought/played any of the remaining albums from George's. And by quickly playing some of them on Youtube, I find a majority of the songs on the GH album boring (gee, and thought macca was boring... ), and the next album *Somwhere In England* even worse. At the moment its his *Worst Album* I think (IMO, I'II need to still play the albums more), the *Gone Troppo* album, is better than these two albums. Your right with *Living In The Material World*, being his most *Underated*, and (IMO) ATMP & C9, being his *Best & Second best* album After playing *Gone Troppo*, I love the title song, but the other song that hits me the most (most definitely should be in his greatest hits album, and they performed it on his tribute concert) is *Thats the way It Goes*, wow, love the slide guitar....

Hey, let's flip this around. Pretend George's album was by Paul and vice versa. Now which one would you vote for, honestly? I would consider it some of George's most varied music and some of Paul's most spiritual! RAM is still the better of the two.

Wow! Did I really just cast the deciding vote for GH-1? We shall see. As much as I love Ram, I had to go with George in a photo finish....
Love Comes to Everyone>Heart of the Country Monkberry Moon Delight>Not Guilty Eat at Home > Here Comes the Moon Soft Hearted Hana>Long Haired Lady Blow Away>Ram On (Reprise) Back Seat of My Car>than all of the aformentioned songs
Man, this was close....

Love them both, but Ram On!
Nothing on GH even close to "Back Seat of My Car."
