Not me, Steve. I am totally digital; haven't even owned a turntable for twenty years. I did see the new set in a shop just yesterday. It's big, impressive looking and expensive.

I'm not buying it either -- and I AM now totally into Vinyl! Will these be from the original masters, or will they be taken from digital and put on records??
Whatever the case, I don't care. As a vinyl collector I want the old, original product -- the actual LPs released in their day. I do not enjoy buying exact replicas of old records; I'd rather have the genuine old records. Even if they are not 100% perfect. I am NOT a supporter of this current fad of re-releasing old-time singles and albums on identical labels and sleeves.
So I will be saving money on this thing. Though I will admit, I have already seen the package and the individual albums in my record store and they look gorgeous.

I have a feeling they will not make a profit on this venture...
If they do, I have a typewriter I want to sell you.....

I purposely didn't buy the remastered CDs because I was waiting for the vinyl. I only own the music on mp3 and am totally here for pretty, shiny, new remastered vinyl in a boxset. My record player is trembling in anticipation. But, yeah, I preordered as soon as it was announced.

I only own the music on mp3 Beatles on mp3!! A scandal!! Hell, are you in for a treat when you hear it in uncompressed, lossless format Nicole. The Fabs in mp3 - a scandal, I say. Psst - if you want "places" where you can download lossless rips of Fab vinyl ( analog sourced too, not digitally sourced like these new records), drop me a line. You could choose among: Original UK vinyl LPs - stereo, mono Japanese Red Wax Mono LPs Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab stereo LPs Etc Etc All done by great rippers such as DLedin, Doctor Robert, pbthal. As I say, send me a pm, because your ears have brains. McCabe

If you read my interview with Sean Magee, who worked on the set, www.examiner.com/article/interview-beatles-mastering-engineer-says-vinyl-set-closer-to-original-sound, they've used the remastered tapes, but not the CD remasters. They went a different way for the vinyl, not using limiting. They're sampling the albums online: www.examiner.com/article/hear-free-samples-of-beatles-remastered-stereo-vinyl-box-online

I have a feeling they will not make a profit on this venture... If they do, I have a typewriter I want to sell you..... Although it might be hard to believe, Vinyl is not dead and it has a ton of fans. These fans range from old-timers to new teenagers who really get off on this format. Vinyl has made an incredible comeback in the last few years. That's why this project has even been undertaken in the first place. They wouldn't have bothered unless there was enough excitement for records still thriving out there. Of course this wouldn't be an easy thing to notice unless one was into it themselves, but vinyl will remain "the last format standing", just like the cockroach.

McCabe Ha, I did have lossless versions too (both mono/stereo - the Internet is a wonderful place...) on my harddrive but it crashed awhile ago so lost the whole lot, annoyingly. But thanks, anyway. Will eventually get around to re-finding them but I generally have to listen at home on my laptop with headphones in so the sound quality isn't as big of an issue as it might be if I actually had speakers or a decent sound system. Always find the sound quality discussions on places like Steve Hoffman's forum interesting but it doesn't affect my everyday listening experience for the most part.

The vinyl box is a bit much for me right now. I did purchase a few of the LPs on their own though. I picked up Beatles For Sale, Sgt. Pepper, Magical Mystery Tour, White Album, Abbey Road and Past Masters.
It would be fun to see if the Red and Blue compilations are reissued on 180 gram vinyl as well.

I was at my local record store today and the owner told me that a lot of fans who bought this remastered vinyl set are reporting that the pressing of these records is terrible.
So I just looked up reviews at Amazon, and sure enough -- there are MANY disappointed and disgruntled fans who got stuck with a bad product. I literally have been "wowed" lately by listening to many different, older vinyl records of The Beatles, actually hearing a lot of nuances and details I've never even picked up on the CD remasters. But anyway -- back to this new 2012 Box Set -- I'm very glad I didn't get suckered into purchasing it.

Listen to Dr. Ebbitts' for "digital" analog needle-drops instead if you want to still hear the analog nuances. I've compared the CD remasters with the needle-drops. Both have their pros and both have their cons. One pro on the CD remasters for a good example is a louder, clearer mix of Long Long Long. Ballad of John and Yoko on Hey Jude needle drop is fantastic.

The individual titles I bought so far, sound reasonably good. It kinda reminds me of the pressing problems that befell Beatle albums in the '60s. The records were pressed using extended runs on the stampers and rushed to the stores. It was once written that only the fans heard the Beatles throught the noise.
