When one of Lennon's best friends, Mal Evans, died and his ashes were lost in the mail, Lennon famously quipped, "Mal ended up in the dead letter file." Would anyone on this board be offended if i made a similar type quip about Lennon's death?

Would anyone on this board be offended if i made a similar type quip about Lennon's death? I definitely wouldn't and think the whole debate of not naming the killer is wrong as well. I love Lennon's humour and would like more of it on this board from members. The trouble is that being on the internet is not like having a few laughs in a bar with close friends. Discretion is needed because opinions or intention can be misinterpreted.

However, I wonder if that was one of those Urban Legend Quotes where we don't know if it's true? If someone says John said it, is that enough? Go ahead and make a quip about Lennon's death if you like. It won't be the first time I've heard one. And if John truly did make the Mal Evans dead letter quip, then John probably would get a kick out of a quip at his own expense, too.
