Who wrote this song? The reason I ask is that there are discrepancies in the allocation of song writing credits on the various releases to feature it. My original 1987 CD version of the Cloud Nine album lists no credits. The 2004 remastered version indicates George Harrison wrote it alone. The Best Of Dark Horse from 1989 indicates it was George Harrison and Jeff Lynne. Let It Roll, 2009, says just George. Is the authorship of this work in dispute and I don't know about it?

Good observation, kc. I'm going to guess that it was mainly George's baby, at least lyrically. I'm thinking that Lynne's input may have been with regard to the production and sound of it, or musically.

It was always my memory that it was co-written and that goes back to the George RS cover magazine when C9 was released. Wow, so George, or his Estate, is playing that game that Paul and the Lennon Estate sometimes do of messing around ith song credits, e.g. "Mull Of Kintyre" and "Give Peace A Chance." Welcome to the big-time, George!

Maybe it was Delaney who wrote it

That was my understanding, too. But selling your rights to the royalties doesn't mean having your name taken off the composer credits.

You have a point there, Vecti.

Thanks for that great reply Stavros. I am in no doubt now that it really was a joint creation, but still don't know the reason for the discrepancies. Maybe it was just a case of lazy work by whoever was involved in preparing or approving the artwork for various releases?

I don't really get this changing-the-songwriter-credits thing on archival releases. Like, isn't that just inviting libel? How can, say, Yoko get away with changing 'Give Peace a Chance' to Lennon only without inviting the wrath of Paul? Isn't she breaking the law?

It would seem to be inviting a huge lawsuit unless deals were made, money paid. I've never understood the GPAC songwriting change where Paul's name was dropped, if in fact it has!

I had always understood that there was a quid pro quo for McCartney coming off the GPAC credit, but I have been unable to find any confirmation of this. Clearly it was a completely sole composition, so a sole credit is accurate, heaven only knows what the legal position is - we need a fine legal mind to inform us on that! (waggles eyebrows in a hinting kind of way).

I think switching the names (for example 'Joanie/Chachi' to 'Chachi/Joanie') is no big deal, legally, since both are still there and each is still credited 50%. But I don't see how they can just remove one legally-credited songwriter's name from the credits on the album?

I have a lifelong crush on Erin Moran who until recently lived in a trailer in southern Indiana.

Erin Moran was not my type. I prefer Linda Purl, who played Fonzie's girlfriend towards the end of the show...

Speaking of Happy Days, I assume you guys have all seen this photo: Taken at Paramount studios, L.A., probably in the last days of 1973 or the first days of January, 1974 (Julian went to L.A. to visit John during Julian's school-break, Dec. 26th, 1963 to early Jan. 1974). Happy Days hadn't even premiered on TV yet, but would later in January 1974.

That is an awesome photo! Fonzie was a badass in the first season or two then he got all soft and loveable.
If John could have gotten RnR done sooner, there might have been a cool tie-in to that show somehow. Maybe a TV commercial with Henry Winkler and John but only if it was before Fonzie jumped the shark!

Well I know this thread started off about "When We Was Fab" but the Happy Days link doesn't end. That show was massive over here in the 1970s. Henry Winkler is a lot more recognisable than Jeff Lynne! "Fonzie", has been over here a number of times to star in the Christmas Panto in Liverpool in recent years and even received an honorary OBE for his work with dyslexic kids in the UK. Seems like a true gentleman as well. Which is something we Brits always appreciate
