I feel the time is right here to write out the dream Ringo setlist for 2014 realizing it is an All-Starr concert with other artists who will perform too. I need to think on this but I know I want "Don't Go Where The Road Don't Go" back in the set and while of course I want "It Don't Easy," I want Ringo drumming during it like at Bangladesh, that was awesome even if he forgot some lines! That was part of the charm, very early 1970's! Ringo only drums on his old Beatles covers like "Boys." I want him drumming just a little more on his songs. That doesn't seem unreasonable as he is our favorite drummer! Well, like you I also love "Don't Go Where The Road Don't Go", but I don't think I'd care to see him do this song in 2014... it still is an applicable anthem for Ringo's sober lifestyle, but it really went better when the TIME TAKES TIME album was released, and it's not one of his bigger hits. If Ringo was doing the entire concert with only his own songs, then I guess I would welcome DGWTRDG .... however, if we create a dream set list, we have to keep it short because there are other All-Starr members to consider... In making my dream set list, I am going to be realistic and realize that there are some songs which Ringo MUST do, even of we're tired of them. How many songs does Ringo usually perform in each concert? Let's say 10 - 13 : My Set List: Goodnight Vienna No No Song Matchbox Snookeroo I Wanna Be Your Man It Don't Come Easy If You've Got Trouble Photograph Back Off Boogaloo Octopus' Garden Wrack My Brain Yellow Submarine With A Little Help From My Friends

Wait a minute, you'd scrap the hard rocking, autobiographical DGWTRDG for "Wrack My Brain," the lamest song Hari ever wrote and that Ringo ever sung?!
I like the rest of your list.

I was thinking of a song that was commercial enough even if it was never a hit (it would have been a hit in 1974, I think). As much as I prefer DGWTRDG in every way, I'd prefer to substitute something Ringo never did before. What is your list?

Wow, that's a #1 compared to Paul's singles off his last album! It's all a matter of the times, John. Paul has released many solid songs in more recent years that should have - and would have - made #1, had they been released 1970 through 1983: Hope Of Deliverance This One The World Tonight Young Boy My Valentine New I Can Bet

WOA tour. maybe My Brave Face, Figure of Eight, Fine. Line etc. but I think those first 3 I mentioned would not have rocked the charts.

There are many post-rehab Ringo songs that could have gone to number one if they came out in the early seventies, as well. Weight of the World, One, I Think Therefore I rock and Roll and many others would have has a real chance IMO.

That should have been a #1 in 1992 with its great guitar driven sound. I don't think Ringo wrote it but still a great song and a great recording by Ringo and his musicians. I can listen to that song and that album any time. The "It Don't Come Easy" single, RINGO, GV and Time Takes Time alone mean Ringo should be inducted into the RRHF as a solo member.

Ringo is by far the most famous drummer in Rock and Roll. Most casual fsns would be hard put to name two drummers, but most can name Ringo. How can he not be in the R&R HOF? Doesn't matter that he's in with the Beatles, he was famous and influential in his own right. Look at the acts that got into the hall-,half of them made music that cannot be classified as rock and roll. What a joke. Have any drummers been inducted, outside of their groups?

La-de-da would have been a no. 1 in the 70s, especially with cameo sing-along by all three Beatles (wish George was on the real one!).

Only 10 more days until I see Ringo again. I'll be going with my girlfriend this time, her first time seeing any of The Beatles... so that will be an added excitement for me. She has really come to appreciate The Beatles more since being with me, and Ringo has become a favorite of hers after watching so many of his interviews with me over the past few years.

Have fun Joe! I'd be surprised if others here were not there. I'm actually joining college friends tonight to see Steve Miller, Tower of Power and Journey. I grew tired of Journey back in the 80s, but my friend had an extra ticket and its only 3 miles from the house. I've never seen Steve Miller live, so that will be cool.

Got back from Ringo show at Westbury. It was a great concert, Ringo was very energetic and in good voice. The Mr. Mister, Toto, Santana and Todd Rundgren songs were all wonderful and the musicians all shone. Ringo as always was the master showman and was very playful with the crowd. Overall, a fun evening of expertly played Pop/Rock from the 60's, 70's and 80's blending nicely for an entertaining evening.

I agree with Fred that Ringo was energetic and in great voice. He seemed really so happy to be playing with this band, and always in good spirits. My girlfriend laughed a lot at Ringo's funny remarks. I noticed something that, for me, was a first-timer. Every time Ringo has ever sung "It Don't Come Easy" since 1989's All-Starrs, he always incorrectly sang the wrong verse first -- "Open up your heart let's come together"... he has never, as far as I have ever watched, sang the proper: "Forget about the past and all your sorrow". (Check out all existing video of any performance from 1989 up to 2014!) ... I was pleasantly surprised that he finally realized this and got it right after 25 years. The sad thing for me is, I had my camera with me (on 'movie mode') and I recorded the first three Ringo songs ("Matchbox', 'It Don't Come Easy', and 'Wings')... but at some point during the show I accidentally deleted these performances, thinking they were unwanted still photos (I took a few of still photos too). I have to say, although Ringo was just great, I am really tired of this particular All Starr Band, having already seen them in 2012. I mean, really - Todd Rundgren can retire for all I care at this point. And as marvelous as Ringo truly was, I really wish this man would throw in some surprises. It was the same typical Ringo Repertoire... even my girlfriend said "I hope he does OH MY MY", but I told her I'd doubt it. I mean, really -- Ringo did do OH MY MY once, but dropped it. He could also throw in SNOOKEROO or something, couldn't he? Maybe go back to WHAT GOES ON, which he did only once as I recall. How about EARLY 1970? Maybe give OCTOPUS' GARDEN some more time? (I am being liberal here, because actually I don't care to hear those songs as much as I'd love to hear more obscure solo Ringo!). Ringo went back to the songs "Wings" and "Anthem" off RINGO 2012. I really hate when he belittles himself... he introduced WINGS as "--from an album 5 of you bought, called RINGO 2012"... and before ANTHEM, he playfully said: "Here is another song from that album you didn't buy". (I know this sounds harsh in writing, but it was not angry in how Ringo said it). In the end, Ringo looked amazing, and every time after I see him I remark the same thing: Ringo looks and sounds like he could be doing this another 10 years! However, I hope he switches the band and adds some new songs.

Mike, I expect you to scream your lungs out during Steve Miller for "Used To Be Bad" and "My Dark Hour!" Well I know this is a Ringo thread, but as for my show, it was a good time. By the end of the night though- I realized why I originally grew weary of headliner Journey (Greg Rollie's other band besides Santana): Song 1 wailing vocals, wailing guitar riff, wailing vocals, wailing guitar riff/shred/finger excercises Song 2 wailing vocals, wailing guitar riff, wailing vocals, wailing guitar riff/shred/finger excercises Etc, etc… The 12 year old looking diva that Journey hired (from a Journey tribute band) hit the notes, but was no Steve Perry, and reminded us during and after ever song that we were in New Jersey. Steve Miller was on second and was excellent. People stared me down between songs when I shouted out "My Dark Hour", and "Used to Be Bad". But I dood it!!!

Okay it is not a "Beatle" thing, but why can't Ringo tag along with Paul, do a set with his band, Paul does a longer set with his band, and they close with a ten song celebration set together? I don't want to go to a Paul concert and watch his sidemen take lead vocals, or lace the set with instrumentals. It would take a huge load off of Paul, and it might attract bigger all-starrs to Ringo's entourage like the old days.

It would do really well financially ... but the thing is, I'm not sure Paul or Ringo need the money. Plus, even though we know it's not a Beatles Thing, there is no doubt it would be promoted as such -- and I'd guess neither Paul nor Ringo want that.

Thanks for the reports Fred and Joe! And Mike, you screamed for Paul related songs so Board appropriate! There is a Chicago Ringo ticket with my name on it but I have a conflict now in scheduling that I cannot resolve in Ringo's favor(I'll call you Sly if you read this first!).

Just seen Ringo Starr and his band tonight. The concert was really great! I enjoyed the selection of songs they played and Ringo sounded and looked great. I really liked it that the show was in a small venue because with mass stadiums you can't see the artist that well. If I had a chance, I would go back and see Ringo again. Thank you Ringo and band for a really great show!
