I was using another thread a while back for when the Beatles were on TV or just when they were mentioned. I think the motives got questioned so I quit.
This thread is just about the Beatles, as a band or solo, when they are mentioned or when they are on TV.
As in:
CBS News did a story tonight on Yoko supporting the John Lennon National Tour Bus appearance at an elementary school by showing up. The kids were singing Instant Karma.
Scott Pelley started the story by saying Yoko was keeping John passion for music alive Here, There and Everywhere.

I haven't been hearing a lot of Beatle references on TV lately. Have the Beatles died out as a cultural reference?
On the 11/11/14 Craig Ferguson show, he got a Tweet or Email from someone named Ringo. Craig said "You think...? No. Ringo would phone". Just then the phone rings and it's Ringo. The do celebrity phone calls just about every night. The robot does the voices. Craig says, "before I answer this, good luck", meaning with the voice. None of this was planned. Geoff, as Ringo, makes a joke about having a head cold, as to why he doesn't sound quite right, although he did not sound too bad.

Scott Pelley started the story by saying Yoko was keeping John passion for music alive Here, There and Everywhere. Paul should sue. That's implying that the song is a Lennon song. It's a Paul song. (Actually John gives Paul all the credit and says it's one of his favorite songs. Paul says John might had helped with a few words.)

Inside Edition did a story on fake autographs tonight. Paul was a central figure in the story. The had him signing a guitar from his car, the guitar now worth big bucks because we know McCartney signed it. They had video of Paul on the Letterman balcony and singing Give Peace a Chance from another live show. Charity Grow supplied a church with a fake signed Paul guitar. A sting busted them with a fake signed McCartney bass. They had guitars signed by Tammy Wynette and Richard Wright (Pink Floyd) signed after they were dead.

Tammy Wynette and Richard Wright were such great guitar players they must have boosted the value by heaps. Speaking of Beatles on TV i really enjoyed the slightly condensed TV version of the Beatles Anthology, that's how we, over in this pond, saw it when it was first released.

debjorgo - I missed it! :-( Did anyone catch it? He was hyping his book on handwritten Beatle lyrics: www.cbsnews.com/news/holy-pop-relics-the-beatles-lyrics/The show told how when the Queen was touring the Treasures Gallery in the British Library, she barely looked at the Magna Carta, but spent some time looking over the lyrics to Yesterday.

On NBC News tonight, in a story about a baby who was supposed to take a picture with Santa at the mall but arrived asleep, Santa lay back with the sleeping baby for the photo with him sleeping too. "Happiness is a warm Santa" was the title given to the photo by Brian Williams. I was watching because I thought they might repeat the Paul McCartney story mentioned in Steve's column today. www.examiner.com/article/paul-mccartney-confirms-he-s-going-back-on-tour-the-new-year

CBS Evening News just did a story of the rock and roll Hall of fame nominees. No mention of Ringo.
I might have to rename this thread "Beatles NOT on TV".

A reminder, Paul's on the Daily Show tonight.
He's just talking about Hope for the Future. He is not performing.

A reminder, Paul's on the Daily Show tonight. He's just talking about Hope for the Future. He is not performing. Thanks for the head's up! That turned out though to be one unimpressive, short interview with the usual, "I'm not worthy before Sir Paul McCartney" by the host. The news on Ringo did cause me to jump out of my recliner and get online to read about the second tier induction category afforded Ringo. Then I got angry and started breaking stuff around my home.

Is it John Stewart or Jimmy Kimmel who is not a fan? Or both? I think it was Kimmel. This came out when Paul did his show. I stand corrected. I like Stewart okay but he's still not worthy.

Thanks lowbasso. I rarely check Steve's page this late in the evening. My on screen tv schedule says James Franco and Seth Rogen are the guests tonight on Fallon. I guess they got scared and bowed out. Or more like it, the Interview movie got pulled from distribution. I guess they figured what's the point.

I think these recent appearances by Paul to plug this one single song on a video game is the surest sign we've had yet that Paul is so desperate to always be in the limelight that even this trifling event, the release of this one mediocre song, is an excuse for Paul to make the rounds on the late night talk shows. And there is nothing to talk about. He was asked, or volunteered, to do a song for this video game and he did. End of story. Stewart and Fallon couldn't stretch that out for more than two questions at the most. And all we hear again is how bad Paul is on video games compared to his grandkids, yada yada. And am I the only one tired of Paul being asked what it was like to be a Beatle, when did they know they were famous, and just generally fawning questions of how lucky the interviewer is to be sitting with Paul asking him those dumbass questions! The only, and I mean only, intersting bit this round of Macca TV interviews was Paul briefly talking about Ringo and the RRHF. LOL, Fallon asked Paul for his favorite solo Ringo and Paul rattled out IDCE and BOB but there is a moment where Fallon starts to say, "What other ones" and Paul looks at him like don't go there I can't name any others! If I was interviewing Paul I would nicely ask about the possibility of Let It Be ever being re-issued on DVD officially. I think to make Paul think a little, I'd ask if his induction into the RRHF as a solo "Performer" was just for Macca I and Macca II and all albums starting with TOW thereafter excluding the fireman series and Ram because that was released by "Paul and Linda McCartney." Accordingly, I'd plant it in Paul's ear that maybe he should get a third induction for his work with Wings, that WWL to Back To the Egg period! Hey, Clapton has three inductions, right? But no, we get the same old, "What was it like to be a Beatle" and "Did you ever dream it would get so big?"

Here in the UK I think we get the Tonight Show a day later, but it's on the rather obscure satellite channel - CNBC (which usually shows financial and business news programs) so I missed it. There is a snippet of Paul's interview on Youtube although it is very brief. Paul was also on the Jonathan Ross show here in the UK last Saturday (which is one of the big UK Chat shows). Hopefully it's not restricted outside the UK & Ireland. 'Wossy' ,as we know him, is a genuinely big Beatles and Macca fan. I don't know what you think of this interview JSD and how it compares to Jimmy Fallon?

You would think Paul would know Walk With You. Does anyone know what Paul's current favorite color is? It used to be blue but that's the kind of thing that changes over the years.

My gosh, Jonathan Ross's interview sucks! Nice way to kill the moment by forcing Paul to muse endlessly about John's murder. And all stuff he's commented on a hundred times before.
Dave Letterman was best with mod-Paul, I think. A bit irreverent, always witty, not serious, but respectful.

I enjoyed the Jonathan Ross interview, and didn't feel it was all stuff we'd heard before. Interesting to learn that Paul actually drives in the traffic on Abbey Road and looks downward, hiding himself from view... and also that he went out to walk across the road in a werewolf mask, annoying people in their cars (it would have been great if he'd pulled off the mask at the last second and revealed that it was really Paul McCartney!). Ross also asked Paul if he recalled what it was like to be an ordinary citizen BEFORE he became a Beatle, which is not exactly something Paul is asked every day (it's usually questions about how it felt once the Beatles became so famous). This is not the first time Paul has been asked to muse about John's death, but I do think it's important to be covered, and it's always interesting to see those rare times where Paul has to confront something a little more personal than just what his favorite color is!
More food for thought -- even if the questions sometimes feel redundant (and they certainly can become that for old timer fans) you have to remember that there are always brand new fans first watching this interview, who may not have heard these stories a hundred times. Right at the start of the Ross interview Paul talks about how amazed he is at the young ages of the fans in Brazil, for example, and he calls them "babes". So not everybody has scoured the archives for familiar Beatles-related interviews ranging from 1963 to 2014.

I think it's a pretty big deal for Paul to be appearing with a new song in a modern kid's video game like "Destiny". I just don't understand why you're always looking for the seedy kind of side about things like this? (And how does a champion of "Mumbo" call Paul's new song "mediocre"? ) . I'm all for hearing Paul discuss new things and not the same old stuff, but like I said in my last post, Paul referred to the younger fans he has (he called them "twenty-something babes"); I'm sure they haven't already heard Paul's stories 'yada yada' yet (and I'd bet neither did the other guests on the show with Macca). Yes, the Ringo stuff was interesting to hear about, but Paul did not talk about being famous so much here; at least on the Ross show he was asked if he recalled ordinary life BEFORE he became famous, which is something other. I have often wondered that myself, since Paul is 72 and has been famous ever since he was around 20.

My only objection is the questioners (Stewart, Fallon) really don't go deep enough about the whole video game thing. As for the Beatle questions, he seems to take them well.

I am of the school that wants Paul to walk softly but carry a big stick! Remember Joe when we kids of the 1970's longed for Paul to be on live TV but he never was back then. But meanwhile Paul was ruling the Pop World! He went from 1968 to 1984 to be back on The Tonight Show and then to plug that crap Broadstreet film. He has got nothing to plug now except some mediocre song for a violent video game! Save TV shows for when he's got a killer new album out that Rocks hard! Why did Paul avoid live TV in the 1970's when he owned the world? Why did Wings not perform live on SNL in 1975 or 1976, that show's "Golden Era?"?
