According to Hilary Clinton, her opponents are all singing the same old song. "A song called Yesterday. You know the one. All our troubles look as though they are here to stay." I'm not sure I like that reference. Any publicity is good publicity in music. Maybe Hillary can get Paul to back her campaign..... Negative connotations in Beatle songs are rare. Almost all of them are glass half full at the very least or more commonly glass totally full. When I hear Yesterday now, it makes me reminisce about the heydays when The Beatles were a functioning band...

This doesn't work for me at all. I'd be more apt to vote for the party who sings Beatle songs.

CBS News Sunday did a story on Pat Boone this morning. Pat mentions that when the Beatles came out, suddenly they were selling almost all the records. "Mine, Tom Jones, the rest of us, Elvis, we were begging for our part in whatever was left." The announcer continues "He knew he would never beat the Beatles on the pop charts, so he tried something else. Boone commissioned portraits of the fab four and sold them by the truckload". He says he got the contract from Seltaeb and made more money selling Beatle pictures that one year that he was making from his records.
I hadn't heard that one before but then, Im not up on my Pat Boone history.

From Extra, a couple nights ago:
"What does $5 million get you? It's gets you 5000 square feet and neighbors like Paul McCartney." Mario says "I'd be inviting him over all the time!"

From last night's Extra, Mario asks Tracey Edmonds if she could invite any three quests at a dinner party, who would it be?
She said "Kate Middletion, I wanna figure out what's it's like being a princess. And then, I'm a Beatle fanatic, so Paul McCartney. And then Quincy Jones. He's just lived that life and he's just cool, right?"

Good Morning America had a story on the Ringo Starr biography With a Little Help. They point out that Ringo was the only Beatle to show up and comfort Yoko Ono after John got shot.

Tonight on the CBS Evening News, one of the lead in teasers was "A Brand New Beatles' Record, a record for longevity". The story, of course, was about Ringo turning 75. The story on Ringo, "...enduring symbol of our youth", lasted a whopping 2:06 minutes.
Entertainment Tonight did a story as well.
I was going to shout "Peace and Love" below at noon today but I forgot.

"Beatlemania" cubed...

I was going to shout "Peace and Love" below at noon today but I forgot. The ET story has Michael Starr, author of With a Little Help, saying "John Lennon once said when the Beatles first broke up that it was Ringo he was worried about the most because he didn't want to see him playing in some club in Northern England, while a waiter was delivering pasta with the dishes clattering around". He also tells about Ringo getting drunk on the way to rehab with his wife. "I'M ON BREAK! OKAY?"

From Inside Edition tonight, "...and if you can believe it, the former Beatle just turned 75."
Michael Starr said "Ringo was considered the amiable, friendly Beatle". They play the Mod or Rocker? question from Hard Days Night, and mention that it was Ringo's drumming and sometime his voice heard on the Beatles best loved songs (cue to Yellow Submarine). After the split in 1970, although Paul McCartney had all the Beatle hits, Ringo was the first to have a solo Beatle hit (cue it don't come easy).
Then a Bond girl saved Ringo's life by getting him off booze.
Ringo returned to touring with his All-Starr band. At 75, Ringo is still getting by ....(wait for it) with a little help from his friends.
Delete the "although Paul had" line. I misheard. Sorry....

Here in Britain, the now under threat BBC, has been showing a very excellent documentary series "Rock'n Roll America" which featured the Beatles tonight as it finally hit the early 1960s. We've also been treated to "How the Brits Rocked America" featuring Paul and Gordon Asher, Donovan and Peter Noon. Link : linkIt's actually a 3 part series that explores the 60s, 70s and 80s and the "Special Relationship" strictly through the eyes of Brits who made it in America. Somewhere in the 1990s the US went all grunge, rap and death metal whilst we turned all 'Brit' Pop, techno and indie. I don't think it's ever been the same since.

Not exactly Beatles on TV, but I'm watching a DVD of (500)Days of Summer with Joseph Gordon Levy and Zooey Deschanel. They're looking at albums in a Barnes and Nobel (?) and Joseph holds up a copy of Ringo Starr's Stop an Small the Roses. He gives her a "Yeah! What'd you think?" look. She smiles back. Next scene, she want's to quit seeing him. "All they do is argue."
It is showing on the Sundance Channel, August 10 and 12, if your interested.

Later in the movie, Zooey says that Octopus's Garden is the best Beatles' song ever recorded. Joeseph says "Why don't you just say Piggies". "Come on. I Love Ringo Starr." "Oh come on. Nobody love Ringo Starr." Zooey comes back with "That's why I love him." The movie jumps around quite a bit. This must had preceded Joe holding up the Ringo album.

On CBS This Morning, in a story about a new documentary on Chris Farley, they show a clip of him interviewing Paul McCartney. There's no sound but it's where Paul explains the "and in the end" line from Abbey Road and Chris goes into his "Assume!!! Assume!!! Assume!!" bit, pointing at McCartney.

ET, just asked Meryl Streep, sitting next to her co-star in the new Ricki and the Flash, Rick Springfield, what was her first concert was. Some of us here probably know it was the Beatles at Shea Stadium. Rick is verklempt, (as in wow The Beatles at Shea) and says "There's a photo on line of Meryl at Shea Stadium and I took it to her and she went "That's not me"". Meryl made fun of her hair at the time and her sixties leather hat and says "I was a dork then".

I'm catching up on my TV viewing. From the August 1st episode of Aquarius, Charlie force feeds his mother a handful of blotter acid and has her raped by his biker friends. The title of the episode was "Your Mother Should Know". No Beatle music was used.

TV1 has the Michael Jackson 30th Anniversary Special airing on Friday at 8:00. It is from 2001 when Michael was still alive. I'm not sure if I've seen this. Guest to include Sean Lennon. I'm sure McCartney's name will come up.

I'm catching up on my Under the Dome viewing. On an episode a couple of weeks back, the dude from Breaking Bad is using a Walkie Talkie ( I guess they don't have cell service Under the Dome) to talk to the main female lead on the show. He say "John to Yoko, Paul and Ringo are on the move. Over."
I was going to let this go. It's such a small reference. But on the one from last Thursday, his son says "All I am is what the kinship needs me to be". Breaking Bad guy says "Junior, that sounds like", he thinks for a second, "Helter Skelter to me". Although that may be more of a Charlie reference than a Beatle reference.

My wife told me that on "Jeopardy" last week they played a clip of "It Don't Come Easy", and the question was who was singing? One contestant answered George Harrison, one answered John Lennon, and the third answered Paul McCartney. The host (Alex Trebek) answered, "No....it was Ringo Starr...the forgotten Beatle." Poor Ringo...

On a new show called Blindspot, the lead character has amnesia. "Conceptionally, it all seems to be there, but the specifics are cloudy. For instance, she knows what music is, but she doesn't remember the Beatles."

A twelve year-old girl on Inside Edition can't stop sneezing. The only time the sneezing slows down is when she listens to music, specifically, the Beatles. I Am the Walrus is playing on her iPhone.
