Thanks for the link, although I think I can make out the lyrics pretty well. (Back off booga-what?) Is that some rare cynicism from you! LOL, the video does highlight that the lyrics are just a long string of lines from Beatles lyrics(and some Solo) connected together. Oh Ringo, if this was the first time you did this then..............

I have an advance copy. I've had brief looks at stories that a couple of people have done that are saying it's fantastic. I'm not there yet. It's not bad, though. The opening track, "Rory and the Hurricanes," though, has surprised me. I really like it. The title track with the Beatles titles is OK. I did like the last album a lot. But hey, it's Ringo.

So,Steve, my wife asked me if I was going to pre-order it on Amazon. Isn't there a way to pre-order it in a way that would benefit the abbeyrd site?

Use this link: amzn.to/1wUbzwuWhile you're at it, you might want to get the new MusiCares Tribute to McCartney, which I can say without any reservation is great: amzn.to/1EvFMnMAnd thank you for doing that!

I acquired my copy of "Postcards from Paradise" today and it has been given just one very quick listen.
Now given that my expectations of a Ringo album are never that high this is probably exceeding them.
The album is very nicely produced and "Rory and the Hurricanes" is a grand opening track. The title track and the ballad "Not Looking Back" also stood out for me. The other songs on the album are all quite listenable as well and some of them may be 'growers' after a few listens.
Ringo's vocal range is rather limited and this always becomes apparent after listening to him sing lead on a whole album. There's no difference here but I'd say this is above average for a Ringo album (so far).

I just got the CD, and I've played the whole thing through a couple of times. On first listen I really like about 7 out of the 11 tracks right off the bat. I have come to really appreciate the title track (mainly for the infectious "possstcarrrdss from parra-diiise" chorus that sticks happily in my mind). I really have fun with "Rory and The Hurricanes" as the rousing opener, and most of the songs do go down nicely. My girlfriend and I both enjoy "Not Looking Back".
Yet I still have a feeling that this is going to be yet another Ringo album that's "pleasant, but nothing outstanding". Not that I expect anything "out of this world" from Ringo; this album is again "not bad at all", but I think it will gel right in there with his other few albums from 2008 or so. There's not much to tell them apart, and I don't mean that as a bad thing. They're just comfortable, and typical Ringo. I do think POSTCARDS is better than RINGO 2012 on the whole.

I'm really digging this cd. The songs are great and you can tell that Ringo had a fun time recording it. I rate it up there with the Ringo album, Time Takes Time and Vertical Man. In fact, Ringo's last few CDs were really good and I hope this one gets some decent exposure.

I agreed with your assessment at the time and still do. On the other hand, I was a bit disappointed with Ringo 2012. Joe says it's better than that, so that sounds promising to me. I haven't managed to get a copy of the new album yet. I can't see it in any of the shops I usually frequent and the largest retailer's website here gives an availability date of April 10. Unfortunately, experience tells me that "availability" does not necessarily mean in-store. Therefore, I've ordered it from Amazon, but will no doubt need to wait another week or more to receive the package.

I still think it's a great cd with Ringo being a little more adventurous on it, and it has that lovely duet with Paul. Like I said, Ringo's last few CDs were pretty good and I'd put Y Not in that category of among his best.

I got my copy a couple of days ago. I haven't listened to it yet.
I don't recall any mention around here that Postcards From Paradise was co-written with Todd Rundgren. A group I ran around with a few years back thought Todd was a god or something. I never quite saw it, but I bought in to their enthusiasm.

I got my copy today. I've played it through once. I hate to say it, but I'm a bit disappointed. I really only liked three tracks, Rory And The Hurricanes (seems to be many people's favourite), Postcards From Paradise (just) and Touch And Go. I'll revisit the album later to give it another chance. Posters here have identified Not Looking Back as being good, while elsewhere people seem to be partial to Island In The Sun. On the positive side, I thought Ringo's singing was quite good overall (he is 74) and I generally like the playing and production on this set.

I just heard that POSTCARDS FROM PARADISE has debuted on Billboard at #99 . At least that's still in double digits, so I'll take it! I've played the whole CD several times now, and it's a real grower, IMO. I've come to like all 11 songs to varying degrees.

I didn't think Ringo had cracked the top 100 (US) since the 70s, but it turns out his last 4 have cracked it, and Y Not made it to 58!

Ringo has explained why he writes certain autobiographical songs on his albums whilst having a sly dig at journalists and perhaps even his fans......
Some of these autobiographical songs are actually turning out to be his best work in recent times. I don't actually know much about Ringo's time with the Hurricanes and I'd also like to know more about his work after the Beatles with both his former band members, other artists and how the hell he ended up doing Thomas the Tank Engine. But perhaps he's right most people are fascinated by the Beatles and stop there.
But come on Ringo you need to write that biography soon.

I finally got the Ringo album from amazon.com, no actual retailer around a 75 mile radius to me carried it in the store. I am not crazy about it. I think "Postcards From Paradise" is excretion with all those recited Beatles lyrics. Ringo is not getting digs in at journalists, he is still amazingly lazy as a songwriter. I like about two songs maybe three if I am drunk. Bah humbug! I don't even like the Rory song, again lazy lyrics and I don't detect real sincerity in it. Okay, what's next Paul. Please no more Kanye.

Now there's a friggin' surprise. Jeez, John, he's Ringo -- not John, Paul, nor even George. But I disagree with you in that I think he's done lots better lately. He had a hand in writing every song on this album, and I think much of it is quite enjoyable. And what are those two or three songs, pray tell? Oh, come on. It's a fun song!
