Both Panther and John S Damm had Man We Was Lonely in their picks. You mean "That Would be Something" ('not Man We Was Lonely')! Oops! You're correct. I was thinking That Would Be Something. I typed Man We Was Lonely. I would submit Ooh You as falling in that area of creative songwriting. "Talks like a baby, Loves like a woman." Great lyrics and yes, the song rocks! Uncle Albert is a fun song. I can pick on a few of Paul's songs. That's not one of them.

Twenty more or less obscure Paul McCartney songs I really like. Nicole’s list got me thinking, so I thought I would offer this as a foil to my routine main list. I wouldn’t change that primary list though. I honestly think many of the better known McCartney songs, including most of the bigger singles, are amongst his best. For example, I think that Silly Love Songs is the best track from Wings At The Speed Of Sound, likewise that With A Little Luck is London Town’s best, etc. I’ve left out any songs appearing on Paul’s studio albums, unless as bonus tracks. Does not include classical. Night Out (unreleased) The Mess (live) Wings Of A Nightingale (demo) Back On My Feet Tommy’s Coming Home (unreleased) Mama’s Little Girl Long Leather Coat Keep Coming Back To Love Love Come Tumbling Down India (sound check) Whole Life I Want You To Fly Summer Of ‘59 The Very Thought Of You (with Tony Bennett) Heal The Pain (with George Michael) In Private Celebration (unrealeased/unfinished?/sound check)) Blue Sway (Richard Niles orchestration) Cut Me Some Slack (with Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear) Hell to Pay I like some of the songs on your list and I have a tendency to like some of Paul's obscure tracks. Some songs on your list were on my list too.

Wings of a Nightingale, Tommy's Coming Home and India are ALL ones I would easily add to a list if we could do unreleased (by him) tracks. Absolutely fantastic songs. If I could add a classical piece or two, I'd also include 'A Leaf' and the Interlude from Ecce Cor Meum. Also Lalula from Twin Freaks is excellent.

The one time I saw the Everlys they actually performed "Wings of a Nightingale." It was wonderful.

[quote author=" Panther" source="/post/75174/thread" t ____________________ I'm always surprised by how many people on here rate a piece of tripe like 'Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey'. Really? This is a better song than 'Too Many People'? I suppose it could if your standard for Paul is matching McDonald's TV jingles to entertain Grandmas and 11-year-old girls. [/quote] Never really understood your dislike for "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey". All I can think is you must have been in a bad place the first time you heard it or something. It is a brilliantmulti-part song with all kinds of musical twists and turns. While some of the lyrics are nonsense, the "live a little be a gypsy get around.." part is a good description of where Paul and Linda were at during that period. Too Many People and Back Seat Of My Car are both of the same high quality and most of the rest of RAM is quite excellent as well.

...a good description of where Paul and Linda were at during that period. You mean at the bottom of a really big bag of pot?

As I understand this exercise, the question is what would I choose for MY own disc, not what I would pick if I was trying to put together a disc for mass consumption. As a result, I left off some tracks that would HAVE to be on a "Best of" disc ("Uncle Albert," "Maybe I'm Amazed" "Live And Let Die," just to name three off the top of my head). This list came from the top of my head without consulting a list of song until I got to around the 15th one--then I looked at the list on Macca-Central and had my memory jogged on a few other titles.
I didn't think about the running order for the best possible listening pleasure, just the titles to include. However, it would start with the one I have on top and end with the one on bottom; I agree with Panther that "That Was Me" makes a wonderful closer to such a compilation. "So Glad To See You Here" is the invitation to have a seat and listen to the remaining 19 songs.

I am rather down on that album although I loved it upon release and played it to death as my family could attest. If I had 50 choices it would be there as would others from Paul's mid to late 1970's period. I am surprised that you listed "Fine Slime" even though I love it(despite the moniker Rocko and I give it). I guess you did like "Chaos" in general more than most here who thought it dreary and melancholy......which is why I love it.

Yes, I would put C&C in my top five McCartney albums, with RAM, BOTR, V&M and BTTE.
As I typed this list, I entered the first 10 as definite choices, and the last one as well. "Cafe" was one that I saw when looking through the list at Macca-Central.
I can't help but think if I really gave it some thought and studied a song list, I'd have something different. Looking at it now, I see I didn't even think of "Somebody Who Cares" or "Oh Woman Oh Why." Or "Helen Wheels" or "Hope Of Deliverance"...
And frankly, I know "Band On The Run" and "Maybe I'm Amazed" are fantastic, and I figure it was fatigue that caused me to opt for "I'll Give You A Ring" over those. No way the latter is BETTER, by any definition I would use.

JcS My Top 5 Paul albums would be, in no particular order, McCartney, Ram, Wings Wild Life, Red Rose Speedway and Chaos And Creation in the Backyard. EA would be 6th. if I am allowed to count that as a "paul" album.
