Indiana into the Sweet Sixteen Regionals! 40th Anniversary of their undefeated season in 1976! I was at IU that year! Only game we almost lost was an overtime win against Michigan St. Some hotshot guard named Earvin Johnson almost beat us! No Division One team has gone undefeated an entire season since. GO INDIANA!

Hear Hear!
They were dancing in the streets of Indiana last night as I.U. beat arch-rival Kentucky!
And lowbasso, you will remember that Kentucky was IU's only loss in the 1974/1975 season and during the NCAA Tourney when Scott May was injured.
GO IU FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!

Here's hoping the NCAA gets the 1976 Indiana Team down to Houston to Re-unite on the floor before the Championship Game begins on April 4 along with Bobby Knight. 40 years now and still no one has been able to go undefeated in Division I since they did it. Not to mention only one loss the previous season as well. That deserves some national recognition.

Can you guys please take back Steve Alford? LOL, I read that he is in big trouble out there! I thought that it was a terrible fit when they announced it three or four years ago. His son though is kind of a tough, dirty butt, snot-nosed gym rat isn't he? I thought that he even has tattoos, a religious no-no to his conservatively Christian father!

His son is one of the problems. He's a shooter who's playing the point. He only leads the team in 3 pointers because he takes the most 3 pointers. When Alford talks about the lack of defense, he talks in terms of TEAM defense when everyone knows it's his son that plays no "D." Alford has put his son in the starting line-up when better players (who are now in the NBA) should have been starting . . . Probably a nice kid, but not really a blue chip player that should be putting up major minutes at one of the blue-blood elite teams. Good luck to you Hoosiers.

Thanks sayne! If we play like we did for most of the Kentucky game, we will be a tough opponent for anyone!
I was afraid the Alford son was part of the problem! I think almost always a Coach's son playing for his Dad is a problem at a Division I school!

I am singing with Baltimore Opera in May, and just arranged to sing the National Anthem at The Baltimore Orioles game against The Detroit Tigers on Thurs, May 12. Never been to Camden Yards....I have sung in Seattle for the Mariners, and in Oakland for the A's before. Would love to sing at the Indiana/UNC game next Friday in Philadelphia, but not possible.
The NCAA should fly the 1976 Indiana Team with Bobby Knight to Houston for the Final Champuionship game in April to celebrate their 40th Anniversary of being the last team to go undefeated..

Congratulations, lowbasso! That is very cool! I agree that the 1976 I.U. Team needs to be recognized in Houston. I am afraid that Coach Knight might not go as he skipped the tribute to that team in Assembly Hall earlier this season. Even Scott May came and he was angry at I.U. for (1) firing Knight; and (2) booing his son Sean May when North Carolina made a rare trip to Bloomington several years ago. However, I think that Coach Knight did gather with the team in Atlanta a few years ago at the NCAA Championship there. He definitely won't go back to I.U.

Not so fast Mike, Syracuse got its revenge on I.U. in the 2012/2013 NCAA Tournament when you guys knocked us out of the Tourney at the Sweet 16 Round and we were one of the 1st Seeds and had been ranked #1 at many times through that year!

2013 Reunion Photo. L. to R. Bobby Knight, Jim Crews, Tom Abernathy, Bobby Wilkerson, Sottie May, Kent Benson, Quinn Buckner. The team that never lost a game ever. The "Beatles" of College Basketball. #1 forever... Er, um, sorry, but this is UCLA men's basketball. 11 NCAA titles (We ONLY put these banners up) 7 consecutive NCAA titles 12 NCAA title game appearances 10 consecutive Final Four appearances 25 Final Four wins 38 game NCAA Tournament winning streak 134 weeks ranked No. 1 in AP Top 25 Poll 221 consecutive weeks ranked in AP Top 25 Poll 54 consecutive winning seasons 88 game men's regular season winning streak 4 undefeated seasons - (take that Indiana)Many of these mostly during the Beatles years, by the way, so that comparison would be very appropo. Indiana can battle with Kentucky, Duke, Kansas, and North Carolina for who would be the Rolling Stones. Certainly, they do not own ALL the records, but neither do the Beatles. The Beatles changed popular music and they are legends. The UCLA Bruins in men's basketball did and were the same. There was even a time when they informally called the NCAA Tournament the "UCLA Invitational." Not saying that the other college blue-bloods do not have great traditions. Kentucky was the greatest prior to the 60s and Duke post 90s. But, there was something magical and legendary about those John Wooden teams.

Well, all the UCLA undefeated teams sported 30-0 records I believe. Granted they did it four times...The 1956 San Francisco undefeated team went 29-0. Only North Carolina in 1957 and Indiana in 1976 went 32-0. So technically they won more games in their undefeated seasons.... But they all rank up there as legendary just like The Beatles. When they were winning they couldn't be beat. When The Beatles existed as a band.....Ditto! And they lasted on top worldwide for at least six straight years as a band 1964-69. And it could be argued that The Beatles have never dropped off the top. They are still the band by which all others are measured against regarding success, #1 hits, popularity, quality of their music. etc. and so forth. The Stones have spent more than a half century together and still can't top The Beatles..... BTW; It is interesting there were 7 teams that went undefeated in their seasons between 1956 and 1976, a span of twenty years. In the last 40 years, no one has been able to achieve that...What does that say?

BTW; I had a brain fart on when Magic and Mich. State almost beat us. Magic didn't start playing for Mich. St. until 1977-78 season. Give me a break, it was 40 years ago! Easy to forget exactly what happened when. Kind of like Paul's memory of Beatle moments half a century ago...Though he won't admit it according to his song "Early Days." Or won't let Lewisohn try and "help" him remember.... It was Michigan in 1976 that almost beat us in the regular season, a game that went into overtime. But we also met Michigan again in the 1976 NCAA Championship Final Game and whupped them again, even without Bobby Wilkerson, who went down in the first minutes of the Championship game and didn't play the rest of the night. Isn't it nice how I always try and make my off-topic posts at least have a Beatles connection of some sort......

I will argue that the parity is because everyone has gotten worse. Yes, players today are faster and stronger. But, I do not think they are better shooters, better defensively, better passers, or better fundamentally, or better students of the game.

But the hair is getting cool again for all the players whether Black, White, Brown, Yellow, Red, Olive, or whatever! In the 1980's and 1990's everyone had buzzed haircuts or shaved heads but now the hair styles are getting funky and cool! The other great advent in college basketball was Michigan's Fab Five(my Beatles' related reference) going to the longer, baggier basketball shorts! Man, the old men's basketball shorts were super short and tight and with some of those dudes, their junk would almost hang out or so form-fitting you could all but see it!!

N.C. also shot out the lights from the three point range and they are not known for that so they had a remarkable night. I was pretty pissed off last night. Now I don't give a shit about the tourney

Can you spot your second Beatle reference? Talking about the player's Junk almost hanging out? Ah, good call debjorgo and "Junk" is the final song on Pure McCartney. Well, I am sorry for Mike's sake that his team lost to North Carolina but having the team that also slayed I.U. advance makes me feel not so bad, I mean we got beat by the team making it to the National Championship game. Hee, hee, hee, I.U.'s arch-rival Purdue University got beat by some nobody 12th Seed and we at least beat our super-enemy, Kentucky!

. . . his team lost to North Carolina but having the team that also slayed I.U. advance makes me feel not so bad, I mean we got beat by the team making it to the National Championship game. . . Great game against Villanova, huh? Feeling satisfied that the team that beat your team lost or were you rooting for them? I had no dog in this fight, but I was actually nervous at the end. Glad Villanova won, since I see North Carolina as an historical rival of the Bruins.

Was not sure how I felt about last night's game especially after I read that NC is under investigation. That was not new news but I had not paid attention to it until now. I was originally for NC but Villanova won me over with their toughness. There is an internet furor over 8 fouls in a row called against NC(I missed that part of the game to walk my dog).

Well, at least I.U. learned that our star Freshman Center Thomas Bryant is coming back for a second year!!! He was considered as likely to jump into the NBA draft this Spring.
Thomas really came on strong this year and was a beast against Kentucky in the Tourney!
