Hey JSD, Thought of you when I heard that one of Mick Fleetwood's "My Fab Four" songs was "Maxwell's Silver Hammer"! Whenever I hear "Maxwell" on the radio I swear loudly and change the channel to Tom Petty Radio!

Maxwell's Silver Hammer always reminds me of Charlie's day in court.
Squeaky and Sadie screaming from the gallery say he "Must go, must go free!"
The judge did not agree and he tells them so.
But as the words are leaving his lips....
The Family did try to stage this during Manson's trial but Charlie got stopped before he made it to the Judge's bench. No bang bang!

I also heard Paul Reiser's "Fab Four" and he had "When I Get Home", which has pretty much been rated across the board as the weakest song on A HARD DAYS NIGHT. But to be fair, A HARD DAYS NIGHT is a great album so even the "weakest" song isn't necessarily bad and secondly what Reiser liked most about the song was John's vocal and I think most of us would agree that John's lead vocal is great in "When I Get Home". It just isn't much of a song.

The SiriusXM Beatles channel is dead!!!! It has become very repetitive with just the basic Beatles catalog and the solo top 40 as part of its’ very tight playlist (with a couple of exceptions like Chris Carter’s show, Dark Horse Radio, and the Dennis and Tom show). I don’t need a radio station for this as iTunes does a better job for me.

Yeah, when I tuned in for the free weekend mentioned above, they were playing the top 100 Beatle songs. I thought, that is the last thing I need.
I kept checking back and it was all they were playing.

I actually thought the thing they did over Memorial Day was kind of cool: playing the tracks in the order they were recorded, rather than how they were released. Fascinating at times to see which songs were recorded before others. I would have really loved it if they had included unreleased stuff like That Means A Lot and If You've Got Trouble too though.

I am on a huge 1980's kick(long story) so I have been playing Sirius Satellite Radio's "Eighties on 8" nonstop!
The 1980's was the last decade, just barely, where all four Beatles were alive and making music. John, of course, was snatched from us after just one year into the decade but man what a dent he made.
The other day this Channel 8 played "Watching The Wheels" and our beloved John held his own to any other 1980's song I heard around it whether from 1980 or 1989! In many ways it sounded more contemporary than most 80's songs with their drum machines and synths!
Our boys Paul and George sound remarkably awesome too when surrounded by other 80's tunes! Only poor Ringo is kind of out of it as the 1980's were tough on him musically and otherwise!

Ringo's career really Thomas the Tanked in the 1980s.
But these little known tracks from Old Wave are easy on the ears...

I like "In My Car."
Ringo had what, two albums in the 1980's. Roses and Old Wave, the latter which was import only in Ringo's all-important U.S. market because he sure as heck doesn't sell in the U.K.
The U.S. has had a Ringo crush since we first heard his funny name! Ringo For President in 1964 was the craze!
But as I noted above, I am proud to hear John, Paul and George 1980's music and match it to anything else in that decade and in 2019 our boys hold their own or are better!
We know Paul makes music you almost have to wait 30 years to fully appreciate it(See The JSD Postulate) but John's DF material and George's C9 songs likewise have aged remarkably well. And for John what is amazing is that these were 1980 recorded songs!

Yes John was in a great place by 1980. I think he'd come to terms that he was always going to be a Beatle. He'd hit 40 and his domestic and public life was now a lot more settled. He no longer felt any bitterness about the old days and perhaps was getting a little nostalgic and proud of being in the greatest band in the world. He even wrote "Woman" and labelled it the "Beatle song".
I am not a big fan of Yoko's songs but John was back in 1980 and it is so cruel what happened. Oh what might have been.
I think it hit Paul more than anyone else. He disbanded Wings, and seemed to be a bit lost through the 1980s until Flowers in the Dirt. George was disenchanted too preferring to build his Handmade Film Company. But then came storming back with Cloud#9.
The 80s was probably the penultimate decade for innovation in popular music. But the best of the solo Beatles work still stands up in that decade.
