Just the fact that the theater has what appears to be the best sound system in the world, with each seat having it's own speakers to enhance the listening experience is mind boggling. That reason alone is why I would like to see LOVE. I would almost rather keep my eyes closed so as to focus on the music when there and not the circus freaks. Again though, my beef isn't with the show itself but why a separate commercially sold dvd going into such ad nauseum detail about the show when there is so much more important things that could have been released from The Beatles' archives? It is analagous to if the album 1 had been accompanied by a separately marketed dvd not of the videos of the represented songs(which is what should have happened but the late Neil A. said that was, I quote, "too obvious." ) but on the making of 1, i.e. interviews with those compiling the songs, those remastering the songs, the artwork, the liner notes, etc. and maybe even a few clips of the Apple Board members pontificating on how important and sacred The Beatles' catalog is. Interesting, sure but it should have been a special feature's disc included in a 1 dvd set of the actual song videos in pristine sound and picture. Beatle Bob had it right: at most All Together Now should have been Disc 2 of an actual recording in HD of the show itself. I think that people would still go to the show even with such a release. "Keep you doped with religion and sex and TV, And you think you're so clever and classless and free But you're still fucking peasants as far as I can see."
John Lennon We fans are being doped with second tier items. Just give us the original music catalog, film catalog, and miscellaneous video catalog in the best possible sound and picture(where applicable). This isn't rocket science. It is a pop band's core catalog!

It is a pop band's core catalog! No - it's the core catalogue of the most important pop band ever!

It is a pop band's core catalog! No - it's the core catalogue of the most important pop band ever! True but that is part of the problem. It is treated with too much preciousness that nothing happens. That coupled with the super sized egos of Paul, Ringo, Yoko and Olivia. I want to still be able to shake my ass to "Twist And Shout" or "I Saw Her Standing There" when they finally come out in a modern format worthy of the collection. I don't want to be bedridden with old age by then. It should have and could have been done years ago.

Never seen that photo - thanks! The photo is a screen cap from the 'All Together Now' DVD. Seeing Paul and George together months before George's death is bittersweet and is one reason to add it to your collection.

I think this one was even later.

I think this one was even later. That picture is from Patti Boyd's book and it's from Ringo's birthday party in 2000. The Cirque picture with Paul and George is from early 2001. The birthday picture may be one of the last taken with the three surviving Beatles together while the Cirque picture is perhaps one of the last ones taken of Paul and George together in public. Again, the Cirque picture is a screen cap from the 'All Together Now' DVD.

Excellent analogy, JSD. DVDs like this suggest one big circle jerk and a blatant reach around into the fan's pocket. I won't be buying it. Don't get me wrong, though, I'd love to see this show in person, but simply can't afford it. Why don't we have the complete promo films on DVD? Why didn't we have it five years ago? The catalogue of music is one thing...but it seems to me the promo films would have been simple. As you said, there's a preciousness, or something, that makes this seem like moving a mountain.

I picked up the DVD 'All Together Now' at the local Best Buy ($19.99) yesterday. I found it enjoyable and worthwhile, nothing great but OK. I can't help but feel there are other things Beatle that Apple should have released for the fans by now. I don't know where Apple management heads are at and I don't think they do either.

Thanks for the reviews. I'm still not sure if I'm interested in a making of Love documentary. I agree with OldFred. "why the heck don't they release 'Let It Be', the Shea Concert and the remasters first". Unless I start hearing more about rare, unseen Beatles video, I think I'll skip this.
I just got Magical Mystery Tour Memories, haven't watched it yet. I skipped through it. Every stop was old people talking (I'm old, I can say that). I may have wasted my money on it.
Neil's comment "Too obvious" on the Beatles1 videos was perploexing to me as well. Before releasing Beatles 1, they did a focus group to determine if there was a market for it. People were not interested. They then showed them the videos. This is when they started getting excited, saying they would buy it. Yeah the music is great, but give them John, Paul, George and Ringo. That's when the mania starts. Rmember the Beatles 1 commercials showing the videos?

I've watched the documentary once and the reworking the music section once and I gotta tell ya, I don't think there will be repeat viewing. I like the bits with Paul and Ringo but I really don't care about the backgrounds of the acrobats and such. Kind of boring. Bring on LET IT BE......SHEA.......and the PROMOS AND RE MASTERS!

From the reviews and reading elsewhere it seems to me like a skip of purchase and perhaps not even bothering with a rental.
Good job Apple! Maybe you can find some rare Yoko on the Zapple label with bonus John Lennon guitar feedback for the next big release.

What makes this DVD worthwhile: seeing reactions on the faces of George Martin, Dhani Harrison, Paul & Ringo, and others at various points. Is this a suitable stop-gap while we wait for Beatles CD remasters, Beatles promo videos and "Let It Be" on DVD? Probably not. But it is worth buying (or at least renting) while we wait. What makes this DVD worthwhile: seeing reactions on the faces of George Martin, Dhani Harrison, Paul & Ringo, and others at various points. I finally watched this dvd today. It was okay. I'm sure as hell glad it was a gift so I didn't have to pay for it. It is not really a "stand alone" product. This should be a bonus disc to a filmed version of the show itself although I know we've discussed that possibility ad naseum. This dvd is like dancing with your own sister. Some thoughts I had: 1. This film shows why nothing gets done at Apple. Everyone has to walk around on eggshells and kiss Paul's, Ringo's, Olivia's and Yoko's asses 24-7. In every scene the poor Cirque people have to unduly grovel to the four camps. George Martin warns the writer that he better explain things to Paul quickly to win him over; the writer then presses Paul on how Ringo will react(and Paul gets a joke in at Ringo's expense!); Olivia complains about two characters in the beginning of the show; and Yoko go nuts after her first viewing of the show as it is taking shape, writing a mile a minute, being most upset with "Come Together" which has an erotic theme in the show but Yoko says it should be all political(I always thought CT was both political and erotic!). Sheesh! Too bad George Harrison didn't survive to see this project through as he could have told these Apple Bonkers(or wankers) to all back off and let the Cirque do it's stuff! 2. I loved watching Ringo's reactions at the premier as he gets animated several times, clearly having a good time! That was cool. Paul plays some air drums to Sgt. Pepper Reprise which is funny: he is still trying to show Ringo how to drum! ;D Olivia and Dhani look moved and having fun. And then there is Yoko. She loves the applause she receives as they go onstage after the show but it is not apparent that she likes the show. She looks bored throughout. Maybe she is wondering why LOVE is a huge hit and the Lennon Estate sanctioned play a few years ago was a big failure. Maybe it is because LOVE is loosely about John, Paul, George & Ringo. Just my observation that Let It Be isn't the only film where Yoko doesn't look happy: she never looks altogether happy in All Together Now. 3. The music in this dvd sounds great and the show itself uses some cool studio chatter from the Fabs. 4. There are great aerial shots of Abbey Road studios and the famous crosswalk. 5. Giles Martin must get laid all the time, that lucky bastard! He is apparently talented and he is good looking. 6. There is the obligatory "action" scene of Paul in a hardhat as the theatre is renovated(remember all those action scenes in Anthology and Wingspan where Paul is cutting down small trees, steering a tugboat, driving a Land Rover, etc.). ;D 7. Paul could not go 90 minutes without doing his fake French accent because of the Cirque guys!

I like the bonus footage on the Beatles Anthology DVD disc 8, where Paul is delivering a foal, building an arc, playing basketball with the Harlem Globetrotters and guiding a tour bus through downtown London, all while narrating. I think the part where he tries to perform dental work on an obese nun was a little far fetched though... ;D ;D

Yeah, those "action" interviews were something else.
