Did anyone else get to see Ringo live on Larry King a couple of days ago? I would have let the board know, but I didn't find out about it myself until minutes before it was due to air. I couldn't even tape it because I'm presently going through re-wiring all my equipment (new TV, stereo, VCR, etc..).
Ringo looked GREAT -- I mean, really, really, GREAT. He was "interviewed" for his 68th birthday for about 20 - 30 minutes , and he was live from Chicago, with a big smile on his face and looking extremely youthful. His short haircut was dyed, so it looked more brown that gray. He seemed more youthful and full of vigor than I've seen him even in his usual best recent days. He kept on with that irritating "peace and love" stuff, and Larry kept asking the same old questions ("how was it being a Beatle?" "Will you and Paul play together?" and "Do you ever think about John and George?"). But Ringo was in just too positive a frame of mind to get upset about it, and he just addressed them pleasantly.
But Larry did bring up the "Liverpool statement", and Ringo clarified it again - he basically said that it was said during a light interview, so it just struck him at that time to express it in the way he did - but much to Starr's credit (IMO) he maintained that he's got great memories in Liverpool, and all of that, but he's happy to move on from there. Ringo said he's always been like that... "I'm interested in living TODAY".
Ringo kept saying "I'm only 26" (or something like that) because he said age is just a number, and 68 is the new 26 (or words to that effect). Every now and then Larry King kept saying "we're with Ringo Starr on his 68th birthday", and after 10 times of this, near the end of the interview, Ringo jokingly said: "Will you stop saying that?" and then Ringo chided Larry: "How old are YOU -- 102 ??" . It was a riot!! I think Larry said he was 74, but seeing them togethe rin a split screen on the TV, Larry looked like he could be Ringo's grandfather! ;D
Ringo got some live calls on the air for his birthday, but one of them was a very cheerful Yoko (Ringo seems delighted to talk to her; they must be good friends). Ringo says he and Barbara got together with Yoko when they were in New York. Anyway - Yoko said a lot of nice things about Ringo, and Larry put her on the spot to sing "Happy Birthday". So -- Yoko did the basic short song, except at the end she sang "Happy Birthday, Dear Ringo... Happy Birthday to YoAwOwOWWWWoWW" (with a slight touch of her trademark "warbling").
