Ringo gives fans V signI ALWAYS had RINGO STARR down as the best character in THE BEATLES. But with only ten weeks until Christmas, the wrinkly rocker has told his loyal fans he will soon throw away everything sent to him. That means all requests for autographs will end up in the bin. I reckon Ringo is out of order and it seems out of character too. Even a host of his trademark “peace and love” sentiments struggle to disguise his foul mood. In a video clip on his website, Ringo tells fans: “This is a serious message to everybody watching my update. Peace and love. Peace and love. “I want to tell you after the 20th of October please do not send fan mail to any address you have. Nothing will be signed after the 20th of October. If that is the date on the envelope, it’s gonna be tossed. “I’m warning you with peace and love I have too much to do. So no more fan mail. Thank you, thank you. And no objects to be signed. Nothing. “Anyway, peace and love, peace and love.” It doesn’t matter how much peace and love you dish out Ringo – surely you can hire someone to keep your fans happy? It’s only a bit of mail. DAVID BOWIE and MACCA manage to keep their legions of fans happy – just by giving them the time of day on their websites. And what is Ringo busy doing? Since the latest album, Liverpool 8, was released in January he has been sipping sparkling water in LA, the South of France and Surrey. It’s Ringo’s second massive blunder this year. When he released his Liverpool album he told JONATHAN ROSS he rarely returns to his home city and doesn’t miss a thing about it. Then, when asked if he would move back there, he pulled a comedy face. Radio phone-ins in the city got loads of complaints and there were tirades against him on t’internet. This latest howler won’t do anything to patch things up. I reckon all Beatles fans should send Ringo something before his October deadline. And so Sun readers don’t miss out after the date, I’m printing a cut-out-and-keep autograph for you. Print the page and save your own piece of music memorabilia! Now I’m off to wrap up my Thomas The Tank Engine to send to Ringo to sign. He did a good job voicing Gordon the grumpy express train. www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/bizarre/article1799251.eceAnyway, Peace and Love

Perhaps Ringo should change his name to Groucho?

Groucho Starr definitely does scan.
I think he is becoming quite curmudgeonly in his old age.
I have got a terrible feeling that there might be more to this but there you.

Well, if Ringo still wants to continue selling copies of LIVERPOOL 8 or any future solo CDs he's involved with to the 112 people interested, he'd do well to soften up a bit.
First Paul calls a woman "fatso", and now this. The two surviving Beatles are getting ugly in their old age.

He doesn't have to rant about it to the public, he could have stopped signing autographs without telling anybody and not make himself look like such a c**k. Do you think he invested all his money in an Icelandic bank?

Well fair enough Ringo.....after 20th October I wont buy any more of your solo albums.....I played Liverpool 8 once so could quite easily toss that one too !! Never like saying this about one of the Fabs.....but what a miserable old tw*t !! He should remember the people who support him and buy his CD's and DVD's.....its not like there are millions of us about !!! Incredible outburst really....Peace and Love ? Yeah right

Hi,
This isnt anything new for Ringo, pretty much in any video of him you care to watch a nasty streak will appear at some stage, just read the reports from the latest tour where there were comments for shows where he was nasty or rude or grumpy on stage, i have interviews from the late 70's where Ringo was so bad and so rude one of the interviewers almost slapped him down, granted Ringo was on the turps then, but i've always found that with a nasty drunk even when they are sober deep down there is a nasty streak lurking, for every good fan story i have of Ringo i have two yucky ones .. i just wish he'd 'get off himself'

My rants are all found in Steve's Thread on this topic below in the Ringo Starr Section. There must be some reason for this. Ringo needs to think before he publicly posts a kneejerk video update like this.

Ringo is the John McCain of rock-n-roll. What a jerk.
You know, Ringo, I have never asked you for ANYTHING (although I've bought all of your lame ass solo albums). You are too busy, huh. So am I!!! As your former bandmate might say, I've HAD ENOUGH!

Is it maybe not in the interests of fair reporting to point out that he has actually been doing this for 40 years?

Ritchie will be 70 y.o soon....(born Richard Starkey on 7 July 1940)
Maybe he's getting ready for his dotage......
Maybe he's pissed off because Liverpool 8 didn't do as well as he expected so he's decided ,collectively ,we can all go and get f*c*e*

I'm disappointed to hear this about Ringo. I guess I was fortunate to have gotten the autograph I got back in 1998 when he was in a better mood about signing things. I still have the memory of him smiling when I stepped up to the signing table and HE reached out to shake my hand. He was very nice and polite and it's a memory of him that will stay with me. It's just a shame how things are today. Old Fred Meets Ringo 1998

All kidding aside, the guy can do whatever he wants.
One has to wonder if Pete Best was really the unlucky one in all of this. He can probably go to a shop without hundreds congregating around him.
Fred-what was more exciting, meeting Ringo or hanging out with all four Monkees? My money is on the simians.

To me the whole point of an autograph is that it memorializes an actual face-to-face meeting, albeit brief, with a celebrity, sports figure or politician that I admire or recognize as noteworthy.
It was nice that Ringo signed things(or had others sign things) behind closed doors but I am not interested in that because I wouldn't have gotten to meet him in such case. I have never even thought of selling an autograph I have obtained so I collect them only as a momento of a brief encounter with a famous person.
It is the way Ringo announced his ban on mailed in items for autographs that is shitty and the excuse that he is "too busy" is amusing. It is like his comments on Liverpool, I guess that he was trying to be funny but it came out all wrong.
Ringo could have been really cool about this and still have gotten his point across.

As long as Santa is still accepting my letters I am ok. Still awaiting the pony....
He could have done it in a better way. This was sure to cause people who don't even care about him or the Beatles to make rude comments. He should have just shut down the address and "return to sender" maybe. How many people even knew he was signing things that were sent to him? What was his address?
Wouldn't it be funny if he was swamped with items to sign post marked 10/20?

Ringo's always had that grouchy and coarse side to him. It goes way back. I agree with those who've said he could have handled the video better and made his request in a very cool manner, rather than looking like a jerk. While I was at work this morning, the radio station which played over the speaker system actually spoke about Ringo's video, and they even played the audio of it. This turned out badly for me, as there are co-workers at my place who love to dig the knife in deep and bash the Beatles on me, just to try and wind me up. So they really had a field day in slamming Ringo, thinking it would get to me. All I did was tell them I agreed it was a shitty thing for Ringo to do, the way he handled it. Recently some guy at work spent the whole morning riding me because there was some article in the paper saying "John liked to sleep with his mum".

Old Fred Meets Ringo 1998 Not to take ANYTHING away from this wonderful moment, Fred (hell, I envy you and wish it could have been me!) but Ringo obviously is more tolerant when it's a set-up situation where he is selling an album or something. That said, he does look genuine in this photo, and it's terrific.

Fred-what was more exciting, meeting Ringo or hanging out with all four Monkees? My money is on the simians. I have a longer history with the Monkees than any of the Beatles. First saw Micky & Davy in concert in 1976 and 1977. Formally met Peter in the early 80's and Davy in the mid-80's and supported them during this period before the Monkees 1986 revival and they always remembered me for having supported them. It was a thrill first meeting Nesmith in 1982 at the New York launch party for his Grammy winning video 'Elephant Parts'. Micky knows me and recognizes me at events, but not to the extent of Davy and Peter. Meeting all four together on two occasions and having my picture taken with the four of them is one of the great thrills in my experience as a fan. Saying that, meeting four of the Beatles during the same lifetime was perhaps even more thrilling because of their huge impact on art and culture. I met John in front of the Dakota twice in the late 70's, Pete Best during a radio appearance in the early 80's (and I must say that Pete was one of the nicest guys I've met), Paul and Linda during a promotion for 'Press To Play' in 1986, in which Paul was friendly but cautious, while Linda was very friendly to the fans and I had a nice chat with her. Paul signed my 'Give My Regards to Broadstreet' book, and it was on the bus going home that I looked at the autograph and it then hit me that I just met Paul McCartney! Then, there was Ringo at the CD signing in 1998, which I already related that Ringo was very friendly and charming, as can been seen in the screen cap of the video taken at the signing. As disappointing as the current news is, I'm glad I have the video, the picture and the pleasant memory of that event.

Ringo used to be the easy-going fun-loving Beatle. George was usually the grouchy one who never wanted anything to do with fans or autographs. I hope Ringo isn't planning any more albums or tours if he wants to treat his fans like they are a thorn in his side. He forgets he is an entertainer, and the only reason people even attend his concerts or buy his albums is because he drummed for a pretty decent band in the 1960's. He never would have even had a solo career if he hadn't been in that band. He once said in 1964, that he had wanted to open a woman's hair salon if he hadn't been in The Beatles. Well, Ringo, keep treating your fans like you are, and you can just go open that salon, or live as a recluse off your fat royalties you still collect as an ex-Beatle that pay your bills. Your obituary will someday read you were member of The Fab Four, spent the rest of your life doing solo work that you only got noticed for because you were an ex-Beatle, trashed the city you were born in and made you famous, and then shunned the very fans who loved you for the memories you gave them as a Beatle. Peace & Love to you too, Richie! You were the better drummer, but Pete Best has a better attitude than you, and look how he got screwed.....

This story is everywhere (front pages of the tabloids, on the breakfast news, cnn ticker). Don't think old Ritchie has had so much publicity in years... shame its all been negative! My favourite article about this: "Unlike his band mates David Bowie and Paul McCartney, who please their fans by keeping in touch with them through their websites, Ringos announcement is ..." www.thaindian.com/newsportal/india-news/beatles-ringo-starr-wont-sign-autographs-anymore_100106526.htmlTurns out it wasn't John, Paul, George, and Ringo at all. All along it was John, Paul, George, and Ringo... and Ziggy!
