I don't know how many have seen the recent interview with Olivia Harrison which discussed the recent release of "Let It Roll". The question was asked why Dark Horse or Crackerbox Palace wasn't included on the new CD. She didn't really go into detail about Crackerbox Palace, but she did mention that she would remaster Dark Horse. I've Included the q&a from Spinner magazine... Will there be a Volume Two of the greatest hits? There are omissions here like 'Dark Horse' or 'Crackerbox Palace.'With 'Dark Horse,' I will remaster that, but there's a lot of peripheral material to that and I don't want to just do the album and put it out without everything ... There's photographs, there's artwork, there are a lot of things that could go into that to make it a really nice package. But to actually put the music out because they fans want it ... if they wait, I can make it better. The complete interview is here... www.spinner.com/2009/06/18/george-harrisons-widow-olivia-is-busy-curating-his-legacy/This would be great to have a remastered version of Dark Horse. The only outstanding CD would then be Extra Texture.

I understand the desire to make a nice package of Dark Horse, but peripheral material (photos and such) couldn't be holding up Extra Texture. I doubt there's too much, visually, to add to that package. That said, I think there's a good album buried in there somewhere. I hope they get the remastering right.

Of the three songwriting/singing ex-Beatles, a glaring hole in my playlist has always existed for Dark Horse and Extra Texture. In 34 years of being a fan, I still haven't been able to feel comfortable with these two albums.
The remastered and in some cases remixed Lennon solo catalog brought some of those albums to life with Rock 'n' Roll being the most amazing example with Mind Games a close second. Those were formerly so sonically dead that I dreaded putting them on. Now both are vibrant and their many moments of brilliance shine, in my opinion. Even SINYC is so much better since the sonics were much improved. Even if those aren't my favorite John and Yoko songs, at least they now sound much better out of the stereo.
I am hoping the deluxe versions of DH and ET will give me better clarity on these two albums. I am more hopeful as to ET than DH to be honest.

Extra Texture has always been a good album. ET, like Material World, always left me with not many tunes whistle after the fact. I like/liked Dark Horse better. Best for me are World Of Stone, Answers At The End and of course This Guitar and You.

Guys, give Extra Texture a chance. It's a mood album granted. I wouldn't put it on if friends are over but I really like Tired of Midnight Blue and Can't Stop Thinking About You amongst all the others.
I prefer it to Dark Horse.

When and if it is reissued I will seriously try to get into it. The current c.d. version is sonically inferior like most of the original c.d.'s of the solo years.

Remastering aside, if I were to remix George's catalog, I think I would do major editing out of most of the horns and keyboards in most of his songs. To my ears, only Paul got horns right in most of his songs. Just a matter of taste, I know. But, I think most of George's post-All Things Must Pass songs would have sounded much better with a less is more attitude. (John's and Ringo's songs, as well)

I greatly prefer the stripped down versions that are all hornless.
