Paul did make it to Ringo's 70th birthday celebration at Radio City. Prior to Paul's entrance, Ringo did 'With A Little Help From My Friends', and a whole gaggle of people joined Ringo on stage, including Yoko Ono, Olivia Harrison, Peter Asher, Jeff Lynn, Little Steven Van Zandt, Nils Lofren, Tom Petty, Greg Lake, and some people spotted Bruce Springsteen on the upper riser. I couldn't make out all the folks who were on the stage, but I did recognize some faces. After the song, Barbara Bach came out with Ringo's grandchildren with a drum set with a cake on top as the crowd sang Happy Birthday. Ringo couldn't share the cake with everyone, so he threw a couple of pieces into the crowd and one of his grandchildren did the same. After a brief pause, the roadies were getting the stage ready for one more number, and one roadie brought out a Hofner Bass and the place exploded when Paul came onstage. Paul and the band launched into 'Birthday' as Ringo raced out of the wings and joined them on drums. I was sitting in the upper mezzanine and the whole era bounced with the fans jumping up and down with excitement. Paul gave Ringo a big hug before they finally left the stage. It was an amazing moment. You should'a been there.

Tom Petty better get on a plane because I am seeing him this Saturday, July 10 in Noblesville, Indiana. He is touring in support his terrific new album MOJO.

I knew it too! I always figured Paul would make it for the birthday celebration, but all the same I regret to say that I had a ticket to the show and at the last minute or so I decided not to attend. It was the first time in my life I've ever bought a ticket and then NOT gone, especially for one of The Beatles. I was also all set to meet up with OldFred for the first time, and am extra-sorry that didn't come to be. Hopefully there may be another time. I just haven't been feeling well this past week, and the idea of boarding the LIRR and treking into Manhattan just felt like a major hurdle. Fred, I'm glad you enjoyed the show and I hope you may share even more details with us. Did Ringo do the usual songs, or did he add new ones? Also, did he do PEACE DREAM off the new album?

This year's All-Starrs was really good. Rick Derringer was incredible singing 'Hang On Sloopy' and he's an amazing guitarist. Edgar Winter was just amazing as usual. Ringo did perform 'Peace Dream' in the show as well as 'The Other Side Of Liverpool' from 'Y Not'. Outside of the special guests, this was pretty much a standard All-Starrs show, but still a good one made even more memorable. A shame Ringo and Paul didn't perform 'Walk With You', but I can live with that.
This video is from Steve's Examiner report and I feel it's appropriate to post on this thread.

Makes me wonder how many times two (or more) ex-Beatles have performed Beatles songs together since the split?

Cold Turkey (1969) was not a Beatle song, plus they really weren't split yet...

OldFred, did you see Tom Petty or were you told he was there? In Steve's Examiner article on this concert, he includes several first hand accounts and so far you are the only Petty spotter.
It would be awesome if he was there because he is still a major talent, making vital music and he is a certified "Friend of The Beatles," having been especially close to George but to Ringo too.
The "Birthday" video is a lot of fun. Paul delivered some rock.

***SPOILER ALERT***
The air was absolutely electric in and around Radio City Muisc Hall. There was so much open discussion on if Paul was showing up. I thought it a bit of a shame, because if he didn't it would be a bit of a letdown no matter how good the concert was.
And it was a good show, a bit to my surprise. Edgar Winter floored me and Rick Derringer was a nice surprise (as was the restored "missing" second verse to Hang On Sloopy!) Gary Wright was good, but not as great as I had anticipated, he was the all-starr I most wanted to see this go-around. The All-Starr format is still a great one, I wonder why other two-hit wonders haven't banded together to do it on their own.
Ringo, charming as usual. A bit of going thru the motions with his old stuff, but good to hear him plug the new album, and feature two songs from it. But the other relatively "new" Choose Love was a strange choice, unless considered part of the recurring Peace/Love theme. Would've liked it if he gave Yoko a vocal on Peace Dream, feels like a missed opportunity.
But that crowd scene on With A Little Help? Sensory overload! Too much to take in, trying to identify who was there. Yes, Joe Walsh could have been confused for Tom Petty, as all you saw most of the time was the long stringy hair. Easy to spot Jeff Lynne, Gary Brooker, but a lot of the others, I must confess, I figured out from YouTube. But it was an amazing feeling, and I was not all that disappointed that Paul didn't take part.
You had to figure after the cake bit, that was it, Ringo practically ordered us home and after all, he doesn't do encores. But no lights came up, and a couple minutes later roadies are bringing equipment in. I couldn't understand it, he just had over a dozen stars sing the finale, they can't top that, right?
And when the lights went on and Paul came out, the whole hall blew up! My jaw dropped..."it's McCartney!" How is it possible I forgot? And Ringo's back on the kit, a Paul's singing a song off the White Album, and when does this ever happen? And a great show of genuine affection between Paul and Ringo, and now Paul's back in my good graces (I hadn't been talking to him for years, you know.)
Great experience. We hung around the stage door in the sweltering heat for an hour, finally gave up as the equipment truck was being loaded. Anyone get to see them leave?

His own schedule of needing to be in San Francisco this Saturday and coming from England with New York City right in line for a stopover; it just seemed this time it would happen. Looks like it was a blast! Wish I could'a been there! BEATLEMANIA one more time!!!

George and Ringo. I wish I could add 1974 John and George but alas the stars weren't right that day. I wonder if they'd discussed what songs they might perform. An Imagine track would have been nice.
