I think I'm going to lose my dinner. I liked it, Steve. Andy kept the country feel of the song and was faithful to the arrangement. Plus, remember that Andy Williams had a very popular national show, and to have him give Nesmith's song such a wide exposure was a major plus for Nesmith. Nesmith was just starting his career as a solo artist after the Monkees, so any exposure for his songs was good. It bought to mind when Elvis Costello used to complain when Linda Rondstadt covered his songs. I'm sure he didn't refuse the royalty checks.

This is going to sound a bit weird, but when I was younger- I thought Andy Williams sang Day After Day. Pete Ham does have a similar tone in his voice, but then again- it's like comparing John Lennon with Perry Como...

Being the man who likes to build bridges, let me introduce a video that will make both Steve and OldFred feel better about Andy Williams' cover of Nesmith. Here is Bert Parks 1976 performance of Wings' "Let 'Em In" from that year's Miss America Pageant: How do you feel now, Steve!? ;D I bet Andy's sounding pretty good! Here is a sped up version which will help stop the projectile vomitting(maybe): The scary thing is the audience applauds that fake when he does a completely lame dance move. Ah, entertainment on the boob tube in the 1970's! You guys can thank me whenever!

John -- THANK YOU!! Laugh of the Year!!!! It's absolutely hilarious!!!! And Bert sings the wrong names: "Stiller & Dawn" (Instead of "Phil and Don"). But it's okay -- I actually thought those were the words in '76 myself! I only hope someone can locate the 1970s TV version of Tony Randall softly crooning HONEY PIE !

John, I posted that Bert Parks video on the McCartney Examiner page. It appears that even the McCartney fans I know haven't seen it. They're flabbergasted. I didn't credit you. You owe me.

But I believe our good friend scousette turned me onto it some time back. I am not trying to pass blame on to her but credit scousette for an amazing find. ;D I should have credited her above but I was rushing in to break up a fight between two friends of mine, Steve and OldFred!
