As you all know, there are plans for a remake of Yellow Submarine by Robert Zemeckis. Well, here's an excerpt from a report from his new movie, Mars Needs Mom.Disney's family film "Mars Needs Moms" found no traction at the box office, grossing just $6.8 million, one of the studio's biggest misses in years. Produced by Robert Zemeckis at a cost of more than $150 million, the film probably won't find much solace in the foreign market, where it debuted to only $2.1 million. If he's lost his touch, doesn't bode well for Yellow Submarine.

Ouch, there goes the financial backing and thus the cool CGI I was anticipating, replaced by Zemeckis floating a toy yellow submarine in his bathtub for filming!

Re of Steve's Examiner article on the subject, and while Ringo is disappointed, I think I've said it before, but I'm glad the Yellow Submarine remake was shelved.
In my opinion the original is a classic film on its own with revolutionary animation. Reading about the chaos during its making, it's certainly a wonder that it got finished let alone released. I still feel the remake, no matter how well done, would have done poorly and I'll always contend that the best route rather than a remake would have been a sequel with a whole other set of Beatles songs.
Octopus' Garden would have been the ideal song and title for the sequel and Strawberry Fields, Penny Lane and other songs could have lent themselves to visual interpretations.
Maybe Bob Zemeckis and company might still reconsider the sequel option.
