SINGLE PIGEON
Wow, I actually like Get On The Right Thing. It's just happy hippy rock and Pauls voice sounds great.
It's not the greatest song ever, but to me it's easily better then the dreck of 'Single Pigeon' and 'When The Night'.

Single Pigeon
Nice piano but the song sounds like Paul doodling to his accompaniment with the intention of coming back later to write the song....
Too bad he never came back.....

What can I say, it's delightful and seducing, a great "Macca" piano solo number....... (and no Linda singing either... ..) Single Pigeon

5. Those tossed off ditties
As far back as the White Album, McCartney had been sprinkling brief throwaway tunes into the mix. Charming palate cleansers, these gave the listener a moment to refresh before the next song proper. From the Wings catalogue, there are such winning examples as We're Open Tonight and Backwards Traveler. But none are more endearing than Red Rose Speedway's Single Pigeon.

Well I actually like "Single Pigeon" quite a bit. I voted for "When The Night" (and will keep doing so until it is gone).

Single Pigeon
Again, I like this but I like the others better. This is getting crunch time for me.

When the night. Just listened to it on youtube for the first time since probably 1977 and it is much as I remember it - not bad, but a bit plodding and wooden. The Wings backing vocal treatment is not great either. I can't believe the lack of love for 'Single pigeon'. It's a lovely, whimsical McCartney cameo with a sweet tune, nice piano accompaniment and a genuinely affecting lyric. There is a demo version on youtube featuring just Macca and piano that is especially good -- better than the RRS version.

I know, I feel guilty now but I like "When The Night" slightly better and the live version Rocko linked us to is really cool. I publicly apologize to the lovely "Single Pigeon" and I want her(or is it him?) to know that it is nothing personal.

"Get on the Right Thing." Macca seemed like he was going for some soulful vocal but for me he missed it. That fine line between emoting and expressing real emotion. "Single Pigeon" isn't a favorite either.

When the Night
Now we start getting into the good songs, for me When the Night doesn't stack up to the rest. I like the start but as Wooltonian says it plods from then on. The lalalalala's are ok too at the end but that's about it.
