THIRTY THREE AND 1/3, Side 2 vs. RINGO, Side 1
THIRTY THREE AND 1/3, Side 2
1. "It's What You Value" – 5:07 2. "True Love" (Cole Porter) – 2:45 3. "Pure Smokey" – 3:56 4. "Crackerbox Palace" – 3:57 5. "Learning How To Love You" – 4:13
RINGO, Side 1
1."I'm the Greatest" (John Lennon) – 3:21 2."Have You Seen My Baby" (Randy Newman) – 3:44 3."Photograph" (Harrison/Starkey) – 3:56 4."Sunshine Life For Me (Sail Away Raymond)" (Harrison) – 2:45 5."You're Sixteen" (Bob Sherman/Dick Sherman) – 2:48
33 1/3 made it to this round by ousting SOS 1 by a 12-8 count, while RINGO 1 beat another Harrison side, DH 1, by a score of 15-2.
This is the final side of Ringo's albums left in this round. All future matches feature a side of McCartney against either John or George.

I went with RINGO on this one. I like both sides. "Photograph" is the best song on either side, followed by "Crackerbox Palace". I find "I'm The Greatest", "Sunshine Life For Me" and "You're Sixteen" quite enjoyable as well, probably more so than the rest of 33 1/3.

The better side of Ringo's best album beats one of George's weaker offerings.

As I said in the last match, RINGO 1 is my favorite side of all the solo efforts, so it's going to be my choice until such time as it is ejected...
That said, I do enjoy 33 1/3 2. "It's What You Value" could be a minute shorter, I think, but that's not why it loses this time. It's just in over its head with the Harrison-aided RINGO 1.

RINGO, Side 1
This is a good effort from Ringo with a ton of help from his friends.
I like Side 1 of 33 1/3 better than Side 2 but the latter is pretty good.

Ringo 1 What d'you know - another 3/5 for R Starkey, MBE. I'm The Greatest is excellent, Have You Seen My Baby very good. Sunshine Life For Me is unusual, but also very good. Wasn't George good for Ringo when they put their heads together? ...... Well, except on Photograph, which I don't like too much, though I recognize its merits as a pop song.
You're Sixteen leaves me cold. It doesn't quite gel with me when sung by a guy who's "...32 & all I want to do is boogaloo".
But anyway, as I say, a comfortable 3/5.
Now for 33 1/3 side 2. Now, I like George Harrison's music - I'm a big fan, y'know? But this side is ... not as good as many others. Crackerbox Palace is the standout for me, as for most others. Value I like too, True Love and Smokey - they're fair, I suppose. Learning How To Love You - er, no thanks. So that's a 2/5 at best.
So Ringo 1 gets my vote - but that's OK - hey, George had a HUGE input into the whole Ringo record, with emphasis on side 1. So I'm very comfortable.

Let's go the points:
THIRTY THREE AND 1/3, Side 2
1. "It's What You Value" – 9 a fav of mine 2. "True Love" (Cole Porter) – 8.5 like this cover 3. "Pure Smokey" – Here's to you Mr. Robinson 8 4. "Crackerbox Palace" – 9 Beatlesque hit 5. "Learning How To Love You" – 7- a little dreary
RINGO, Side 1
1."I'm the Greatest" (John Lennon) – 8.5 overrated but not a bad tune 2."Have You Seen My Baby" (Randy Newman) – 8 Newman is a great songwriter, and Ringo does an ok job with it 3."Photograph" (Harrison/Starkey) – 10 the perfect "hit" formula 4."Sunshine Life For Me (Sail Away Raymond)" (Harrison) – 10 George and the Band are prominent 5."You're Sixteen" (Bob Sherman/Dick Sherman) – 9 great cover hit

This side of RINGO is excellent, and George's 331/3 cannot touch it. I love Crackerbox Palace and I think It's What You Value is okay, but I'm not wild about the rest of that side.
RIngo for me.

Yes Ringo for me on this one . It's an album side to wake up to on a sunny Sunday summer morning thinking "I am the Greatest" and then eating a full English breakfast followed by a hot cup of English Breakfast tea or top quality coffee. And I did give it another listen this morning. Unfortunately it's the middle of winter in Britain but it did put me in a good mood for the day. Thanks Ringo.

I love them both but come back to side two of 33 1/3 more often due the George's tasty guitar work through out the side.
True Love has some great double slide, Pure Smokey is a treat and I absolutely love the acoustic guitar runs in Learning How To Love you. I alwyas thought this side had a very nice flow to it. Very much a winter album for me.

For me, this was much closer than I thought, but I have to give it to Ringo (as "Learning How to Love You" infects this pretty good side with much of the boring George from "Extra Texture").

Gotta go with Ringo. His one great, great side. This side, what can I say, its one of the most purely Beatle-esque sides of all the solo albums.
I get pissed when I hear pin-heads say: "Ringo Starr is the luckiest man in the world." In fact, the Beatles were damn lucky to have him. One of the great rock drummers and show biz charmers of all-time. He's the "greatest." One fourth of the greatest show on earth.
John once discussed Ringo's influence on the Beatles. If they were thinking of doing something and Ringo was against the idea, they didn't do it.
