Does anyone really burn CDs anymore? I think this room should perhaps be renamed to iPod Beatle Playlists...

I still burn my own CD compliations and when I'm finished I immediately load them on to my iPod. Most of my burning is from CDs I already own and only occassionally from downloads.

I'm in the "antique" crowd who remember making tapes and reveling in a new release over a glass of Lagavulin, some candles & incense. I even made a CD called "Not the Beatles" once, which went over pretty well here at Abbeyrd. I still own a turntable and a few thousand records and would never give up the ambiance for an MP3 "down-load" or whatever.

I got a set of Bose headphones for Xmas and found that mp-3s sound pretty good through them-as compressed as they are.
I realized as I was converting Dr. Ebbetts pretty decent sounding flac files to wav files - ipods play wav files, and 8 Gigs is about 10-15 albums-so if you have the storage on your computer-why not just make a wav library for your i-pod. Then, you don't have to lug around your CD player-but can still get full CD quality.

I can add/remove albums at will, you cannot say the same for a burnt CD. Generally, those that balk at MP3 or AAC files don't rip them properly. I do admit that a 128kpbs file is not going to sound as good as a 320kbps file. So, just rip the CD or song at a higher bit rate! Most people are not aware that you can get into your preferences of your media player and change the setting to all kinds of encode rates. But what do I know, I'm just an 800lb gorilla!

128 kbps is sort of like FM radio. 320kbps is fine- even 256.
Isn't the quality from itunes converters generally the equivalent of 256 kblps?

The last CD I burnt of Beatles music was Rock N' Roll Music. I ripped the songs to the hard drive and burnt a CD. I used one of Bruce Spizer's books as text to use the proper versions of the songs.
I'm thinking of doing it again using the remasters.
Should I or Shouldn't I, I leave it up to you. I just can't decide on my own it's an important decision, I need a consensus of opinion with a two thirds majority vote. Supreme executive power is derived from a mandate from the masses, not farcical aquatic ceremonies.

And by request, I renamed this area to include iTunes playlists. Gotta keep up with technology.

I wish they'd release RnR Music on CD. Same here, It's a good collection that deserved to be on CD. The only change I would suggest is a different cover artwork. A design that is more suited to The Beatles in the Sixties, not fifties era jukeboxes and images of Marilyn Monroe. It's like a home run with four sides of music and a strike out for the cover.

Last week, I burned a Rock And Roll Music CD, tweaking the tracklist and focusing on 1963-1965. I made TWO versions, one using the Capitol mono mixes and a stereo, using the remasters. With The Beatles was represented heavily and I even used the '87 remix for "Dizzie Miss Lizzie" because I liked the echo.
I threw in Please Mr. Postman, Hold Me Tight, When I Get Home, and She's A Woman to round it out.

"She's A Woman" was an amazingly stupid oversight to the original Capitol Records "RARM" comp!

I still burn CD's. I give them as birthday/Christmas presents. I used to do tapes. I have an i-pod, but it only holds around 280 songs. I have no idea what an mp3 player is, although I have heard of the term.

Last night I created iTunes playlists for the Canadian releases, Long Tall Sally and Twist And Shout. Since "Twist And Shout" is a version of Please Please Me with "She Loves You" and "From Me To You" in place of "I Saw Her Standing There" And "Misery", it was fairly easy to organize the play list. "Long Tall Sally" was a little harder. The back cover has a great hype line, that presented a real poser: Actually it's not a new recording of "Roll Over Beethoven". It's the same recording found on either With The Beatles (UK) or The Beatles Second Album (USA). I absolutely had to solve this horrible conundrum. I had to find a "new recording" of Roll Over Beethoven. And I Did! The version of Roll Over Beethoven on Live At The BBC was the answer. It was recorded in 1964. It starts and stops cleanly - no DJ voice over. It fits in well with the overall context of the album, and sounds good next to the other songs. So it was game, set, and match, Probelm Solved! As a listening experience, I prefer "Long Tall Sally" over "Twist And Shout". It's a mix of singles, b sides with some EP and album tracks. Right now I don't know if I will burn CDs from the play lists, but I'm open to the idea.

I still burn CD's, but not as often. I burned a copy of LOVE SONGS for someone not long ago from vinyl to disc.

As a follow up to my last post here, Yes I did burn the Long Tall Sally play list to CD.
Reason being, it is a good compilation of early songs. The songs were well chosen and sound good together. Another reason figures in. It reminded me of a comp album from Decca Records in America. Magic Bus: The Who On Tour. An album that was put together for similar reasons, about four years after Long Tall Sally.
