3.5 -- I'd like to give this a 4, but I'm only shaving a little off because it's not a "finished" song. But I love it... good rockin' Lennon, and with occasional good lyrics.

And the lyrics are...
Say you're looking for a place to go Where nobody knows your name You're looking for oblivion With one Eye on the Hall of Fame
I don't wanna face it oh no I don't wanna face it no no no no Well I can dish it out But I just can't take it
Say you're looking for some peace and love Leader of a big old band You wanna save humanity But it's people that you just can't stand
I don't wanna face it oh no I don't wanna face it no no no no Well I can sing for my supper But I just can't make it
Well now you're lookin' for a world of truth Trying to find a better way The time has come to see yourself You always look the other way
I don't wanna face it oh no I don't wanna face it no no no no Well I can see the promised land And I know I can make it!
I don't wanna face it I know I don't wanna face it oh no I don't wanna face it oh no I don't wanna face it
I don't wanna face it
I just can't face it no more Every time I look in the mirror I don't see anybody there

What or who is John singing about in this song, he must have had some specific thoughts when he penned it but i can't see anything obvious although Ringo's peace and love gets a mention....
I give it a 3

Ringo wasn't doing his "peace and love" schtick at the time John wrote this song. That's something Ringo started in the '90s. I think that, if anything, John's referencing himself and his own conflicts. But I don't really think it's that important. It could be about nobody specific.

A strong 3 Good rocking song. Great guitar and a nice stripped down sound. I like MILK AND HONEY quite a bit. It was a nice surprise when it came out. I've always said that putting John's songs on DOUBLE FANTASY and MILK AND HONEY together would be my favorite John solo album.

A 3 from me. I love the self-deprecating lyrics but I wish John sang it in his "New York City"(the song) voice rather than the bathroom echo, quasi-Spector reverbed voice he uses.
I love Double Fantasy Stripped Down because I hear John's voice in a more natural way. If John sang "I Don't Want To Face It" like he sang "Revolution," I give it a 4.

Compared to John's good stuff this is a 2. The lyrics are good, but the tune is hum drum and the backup and execution is lack lustre.
The line about wanting to save humanity but hating people is not original, but it certainly fits. Its pretty obvious John is writing/singing about about himself. I'm inclined to give him a half point for his honesty. I could stretch it to 2.5.
I like the fact that John is putting energy into this track, but it runs out of gas.

2 (average). I like the lyrics. I don't like the high voice, just like, for example, Paul's falsetto on Girlfriend ruins that for me. Honest and even handed, that's kc.

I love this song hence my signature, funny lyric I wish it was finished, it is my third favourite song of John's from Milk and Honey behind Nobody Told Me and Grow Old Along With Me. I like John's use of contradictions in the lyrics to make a point. I'm sure Noel Gallagher got a good lesson from John in writing lyrics from this song. He does exactly the same thing. A very solid 4.0

Maybe the song is technically unfinished, but I enjoy many of John's Milk and Honey songs more than the more polished ones on Double Fantasy. They seem more spontaneous.

I have a memory of Julian being talked into recording this song by an unscrupulous manager prior to Valotte and based on recordings of the song from tapes stolen by Fred Seaman and before M & H was released.
I could be wrong about the detail but I thought Julian recorded this song. If so I could not find his version on YouTube.
Does anyone remember this apparent sordid chapter of this song?

I remember that story I think shortly before he launched his solo career (Valotte still haunts me to this day-in a good way of course). I could never remember which song it was but I think you are right. I don't think he ever actually did it. It might have sparked some of the ealiest part of the Julian Yoko feud. I think he has done Day Tripper and Stand By Me live and in the studio When I'm 64 along with Ruby Tuesday and Dave Clark's Because. The other story I seem to remember from that time is that John did cut a primitive studio version of Grow Old With Me, but it was stolen allegedly by FS. BTW- I was trying to keep up with these, but "cartman" and the polar bear shut a lot down- but since I've been getting back in- I'll give this a 2+. If he got to finish this I think it could have been a biggie.

2.5. Nice romping beat. But, like so much of Lennon's solo stuff, it runs out of musical inventiveness about half way through.

With the exception of Watching the Wheels, I like John's songs on Milk and Honey more than Double Fantasy.
This is another one of John's slamming someone, "Oh no, it's about me" songs.
You're too much, John.

Mind telling me what you're talking about? Beatlefest picture...who is to know if that is the first time you've done it... Come on...keep up... Then you missed the fact that I was purely spoofing Ringo's act. In one picture I was imitating Ringo, in another I did Paul's "Thumbs Up". I do believe I made sure to reference the Ringo imitation at the time the pic was posted.

I had it as my plan to pose like that before I even met OldFred at the Fest. I knew he would be posting photos here, so I figured it would be fun to imitate Ringo's insincere "peace sign" nonsense. I would appreciate if you'd come right out and say what you want to say.

Not to get in the middle, but Friday night I played the Milk And Honey re-issued earlier in the 2000's and I was happy with my rating here of 3.
I agree with kc about the high voice though. I've also felt the musical backing is a little too slick for the rocker this should be. Still a 3 is "good."
