2 -- As much as it's easy to hate this, I don't. But at the same time I can't give it a 'good' rating. I applaud for Paul for really getting weird and wild here. But it's not even as listenable as something like MUMBO or CHECK MY MACHINE. Still, there is something I like about Macca sounding tough for a change.

here are the lyrics....
Nothing too much Just out of sight You say you love me If this is true The best thing to do Is to lye down beside me I said I love you Well nothing too much Just out of sight
Oh don't you want to be fair? When you went away In the twilight It was alright It was alright Alright
I love you I said I love you I thought you knew The last thing to do was To try to betray me The new morning light I'll never forget it Nothing much just out of sight
Twilight Out of my sight I was more than upset Nothing too much Alright
I can remember Your beautiful hair I can remember Why cant't you take me there? Don't you try betray me? Oh wanna betray me? I was ready to test I was ready to test with the whites of your ribs
It was alright Alright Not nothing too much Just out of sight Well nothing too much Just out of sight
Out of my sight Beautiful hair I was really upset In the moonlight In the twilight Of the last night It was alright Alright Alright
Well nothing too much It's alright Just out of sight The last thing to do was to try to betray me.

2 This is the type of stuff on ELECTRIC ARGUMENTS that keeps me from putting it among Paul's top albums. I wish this were only about 2 minutes long. It has a decent start (a bit like "Helter Skelter") but then it is more like noise than music for much of the rest of the song. I don't give it a 1 for much the same reasons JoeK mentioned, but I never even considered giving it a 3. There are many other songs I prefer from ELECTRIC ARGUMENTS.

This is a 3.0
It's just a jam but a very good one, Paul is just letting rip with the vocals and you can tell there is some pent up venom there.
Actually I will bump this up to a 4.0 , I do think it's great.

Guys, I just had an epiphany as to this song thanks to fabfour posting the lyrics. Wow, I know it is dangerous guessing who Paul is singing about in his songs, if anyone, but this is squarely aimed at Heather Mills and helps explain the ferocity in which Paul thrashes about on it. Whoa, like many here, this was alright to me but among my least favorite on this album. Man, reading the lyrics for the first time just jump-started this song in my book! This gets a 4 and that's not where I was going when I opened this Thread. Man, when Paul McCartney uses the word "betray" out-loud, the recipient is hosed, never to be forgiven by Macca! There is some wild drumming on this song too. I am so into EA right now as I've written elsewhere like a giddy schoolgirl.

The lyrics are quite good and it is delivered very well. I give it a 3.5. I was listeneing to it again the other day and I like it even better now than when it first came out. BTW, the line "Don't try to betray me. Oh you want to betray me?" is a warining and then a threat: "I was ready to test the whites of your ribs". That is a threat of physical violence from Paul--a jab to the ribs--and the testing is whether or not they get broken. It appears Paul has quite a temper, though there is no evidence he followed through.

I'm surprised at the high scores for this track. Frankly I thought I was being generous giving it a 2. So he is mad and angry? Big deal, the music and vocals are not pleasant to listen too. It's like Lincoln Park or Korn or any of dozens of similar bands with the screaming vocalist. Paul can do good screaming (I'm Down, Helter Skelter-even the nonsense of Mumbo) but this is an example of that.

I may need to rethink my newfound love of this song because domestic violence is always wrong no matter the provocation(whether verbally or by the other sleeping with the mailman/mailwoman). Eww.

When you think about it, this is like Paul doing his YOU CAN'T DO THAT or RUN FOR YOUR LIFE.

Knowing Paul, he might have just had this angry-sounding song and looked for angry lyrics to throw into it.

2.5. I got blisters on my white ribs! Shows you how much Paul needed George's guitar solos to elevate his songs to another level when they started to become a drone.

4 (great). An astonishing piece of work. I understand that some will not like this, after all, it is the heaviest thing ever to come from a Beatle, or ex-Beatle. I bet John Lennon would have been blown away upon hearing the song if he had been alive in 2008.
What an incredibly varied talent Paul possesses. This is from the same guy who has been described in another thread as having the image of a wimp amongst much of the general public. This from the same artist who presented us with The Girl Is Mine, Girlfriend, Mary Had A Little Lamb...
It is amazing that someone of then 66 years, and with what most fans believed to be a deteriorated voice, should have even attempted such demanding singing. Yet, apart from a couple of minor and forgivable vocal falters, he nails it.
I don't think the lyrics were meant to convey an actual threat to use violence, or to openly recapitulate an actually physically delivered threat. I think it was more a case of Paul revealing what he felt like doing, but managed to suppress.

Mucca did say Macca was violent as part of her quest for MORE than her earnt share in the divorce settlement...maybe he gave her one...

This was definitely about Heather.
The lyrics at 3:35:
Your beautiful leg...... On the road to the west Oh I was really upset. But really lost in the moonlight In the twilight In the half night It was alright alright.

This was definitely about Heather. "Definitely" does not literally apply here unless Paul reveals so. I'm not saying I don't share your opinion, but that's all it is -- an opinion.

Those transcriptions are wrong at least half the time. Its just some putz listening to the record and transcribing what he thinks he hears. We're not talking about rocket science intellect for those employed in that fashion. Besides, whose beautiful leg do you think he was talking about, Colonel Sanders?

This is right up my alley. He should do a whole album as hard and heavy as this. Then in concert, lose most of the Beatle songs, except for the heavy songs, i.e. Helter Skelter, Carry That Weight The End, ...etc. Do Helen Wheels, Juniors Farm, Venus and Mars Rock Show, Old Siam Sir ...etc.
Sure, he'd lose a lot of fans, but so be it. He'd probably gain more.
3.5. It not perfect but it's close.
