Just got notice from Amazon.com in the U.K. that my copy of the Extended Version of the Lewisohn book has been shipped and should arrive shortly. Can't wait. Hopefully I can get Lewisohn to sign it at The Fest For Beatles in February, which he'll be a guest at. Between this book and the new BBC album & book it's been a nice Fall season for Beatles fans. Now bring on the 50th Anniversary Celebrations of The Beatles in America slated for The Grammy Awards in January and the Fest in NYC in Feb.

Add McCartney's NEW and Allan Kozinn's ebook to the list as well. JcS

I didn't get my email notice yet and I ordered the expanded book way back on July 2, 2013, when it was going to be like 125 pounds but thank goodness it dropped significantly!
Wait a minute, I do maintain three email accounts to keep the U.S. Government and Islamic terrorists from too easily keeping tabs on me. I better go check my other two "secret" email accounts.

My expanded Lewisohn book was just handed to me by my secretary. It is thick! I will wait to open it at home.

My super-duper edition arrived today. Ordered it last week from amazon.co.uk Very jealous. Still waiting for mine to arrive... I still haven't opened the box to the super duper Lewisohn version that was delivered yesterday to hog manure capitol Logansport, Indiana, maybe tonight. I am right in the middle of Tolkien's Two Towers book and I don't know whether to put it down and start Lewisohn's or what. I do not read two books at once as I am already a spastic and that makes me bounce off walls.

I'm so glad I decided to order the super-duper book.
Those of you who are into which take was used for which release, and the type of EMItape, etc, will not necessarily like this book.
Those who want to explore the history of the families, the history and sociology of the times the Fabs were born into, all of the social and political context of what made them who they were, will appreciate what Lewisohn has produced.
I am biased--the early era is the part of the Beatles' history that most fascinates me, probably because it came before the explosion of Beatlemania here in the States. I'm interested in working class folks and how they lived. The Beatles and their families deliver fascinating insights into the occupations, working conditions, living conditions, religious spats, and many other facets of Victorian through WWII England. It illuminates how and why John, Paul, George and Ringo came to be, in a complete and responsible way. Lewisohn balances the historian's duty to reveal with respect for all concerned.
The Bob Spitz book looks like the work of an apprentice compared to Lewisohn's master work.

Just been reading the Wiki on Peter Shotten. It says John smashed Pete's washboard (his instrument in the skiffle band) over Pete's head when Pete said he didn't enjoy playing. We have a thread here somewhere that talks about John's temper. I don't remember this being mentioned. The wiki doesn't credit Lewisohn's book. I suppose there is a lot about the early years out there already. I was looking for info on Shotten's involvement with the Rebels, George's band before the Quarrymen. The wiki doesn't say anything about it. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Shotton

I misread this page here. www.starclustermusic.de/artists/beatles/harrison/bio/harrison1.htmI read this "When Rod Davis and Pete Shotton left the QUARRYMEN in January 1958 got John Lowe to play the piano and from another local group, the REBELS they hired George Harrison." as saying that Pete left the Quarrymen and "formed" the Rebels. Of course he didn't.

Well, I bought the mass-market edition at Barnes and Noble today - $16.00 with membership discount and coupon! (My wife pointed out that $180.00 is a bit much for a book and I had to agree. :-( )

December 3rd came and went, and I don't have my copy yet! JcS We're interviewing Allan today for the radio show. Shall I tell him? I have been in contact with Amazon.com in the UK the last two days because mine didn't show up either. Seems that their carrier; DHL Global Mail won't deliver to PO Boxes in the United States. That is the explanation they gave me today for why mine did not arrive, as I had requested it be delivered to my PO Box. They said DHL in the United States has that rule, so my copy upon arriving here in this country with a PO box address was promptly returned to the UK. But they did not inform Amazon about it until I made them look into it. So I am having another book shipped from the UK to my street address. Don't know if I have to wait another three weeks for it to arrive... Morons at Amazon.com in the UK. Their international carrier there, DHL Global did not tell them PO Boxes are out in America. Pain in the ass that only the British publisher offers the extended version. Crown Publishing in the US, that is handling the book over here, lost out on all the true diehard American Beatle fans who wanted the extended version. Wanna bet more diehard American Beatlefans want that edition than diehard British beatlefans???

Wanna bet more diehard American Beatlefans want that edition than diehard British beatlefans??? I agree lowbasso, I have been saying that Mr. Lewisohn is not well served by his American publishers! America and Japan probably spend more money on The Beatles than anywhere else in the world. It is a crime that the expanded edition was not released here. I got my super duper Lewisohn Nov. 22nd and I was also lucky because I ordered it the first week of July at 125 pounds but as lowbasso and Joey explained, I was given the lower price of like 75 pounds without knowing it! I haven't cracked it open yet and I may not for years. I am funny like that. I still have unopened Christmas gifts from three years ago but I cherish them all the same. Things don't get worn out or broken if not opened! I am not a hoarder.

Wanna bet more diehard American Beatlefans want that edition than diehard British beatlefans??? Well, my extended edition showed up today at my PO Box. This, after a 30 minute phone call to the Amazon reps in the UK yesterday, who first insisted one cannot order anything from Amazon in the UK and have it shipped to the United States, and then today, after I got an e-mail from a supervisor at Amazon over there that told me their carrier, DHL Global Mail, told her that they don't deliver to PO Boxes in the United States. I believe the phone rep I talked to yesterday was named Moe or Larry. And the supervisor who e-mailed me today was named Curly.... But I finally have the book, and am done with Amazon in the UK. Now, what really happened when Pete Best was fired......
