I mean in regards to record stores. I recently saw on the web that the J&R store in New York had closed and that it was the last of the very large retailers in Manhattan. Is that correct?
Most of the retailers in Adelaide have closed over the past few years. We never had any of the really big outlets like some other cities around the world, but even the shops that I would class as medium size have gone. There was a Virgin Megastore that went at least fifteen years ago. That left a couple of medium sized independent businesses which shut their doors about two years back. Presently, we have a number of sites belonging to the national JB Hi-Fi chain where I do most of my buying. However, their floor space devoted to CDs has been much reduced. If they get out of selling music I will be seriously at a loss. That would only leave a handful of small businesses here.
How about your location?

Oh no did j&r really close? That was the store by my school, I went there all the time. Then they expanded and took over like a full block of downtown nyc. I saw Ray Davies there fir a mini concert and cd signing. I'm bummed.
In my neck of the woods, there are no record stores. Excepting target of best buy or Barnes and noble, which I do. I get my music online now, I really miss record stores.

In my neck of the woods there are 5 record stores operating. There were 6 up to last year, but it closed only because its owner died.
