Yes, R.I.P, Casey. I also remember him as the voice of Robin in Superfriends.

I never gave a rat's ass about old Casey but his widow and daughter(from an earlier marriage) sure fought like the dickens and I enjoyed that! The widow threw a pound of uncooked hamburger at the daughter when she came to retrieve her old man about a month ago!
I remember right after John got murdered Casey Kasem did some "tribute" to John and his dramatic voice said, "John Lennon's murder proves strawberry fields aren't forever" and that showbiz, maudlin, bullshit statement really pissed me off, even at 18 years of age.
F-you Casey, I thought back then. John just got murdered and this showbiz creep is being all "precious." F-you again Casey!

Julian Lennon posted this comment on his Twitter page: "RIP Casey...You were One of a kind & You were a Legend." twitter.com/JulianLennonSally, please know I wasn't aiming my acerbic remarks at your starting the Thread. For some, Casey may have been a cherished part of their childhood. Not me although I certainly remember him and American Top 40 and his various cartoon voice-overs. I didn't mind him until after John got murdered. I was very angry as we all were when John was murdered and I was only 18 thinking I was a little working class hero and I was absolutely angered when I heard Kasem say that strawberry fields thing. I thought it too showbizzy for John Lennon and it certainly wouldn't comfort his family, making that Beatle connection. Some fans may have been comforted by that polished phrase, I bet many were. I was too angry. I also remember reading that most of the Beatles were not really Dick Clark fans as he was rather late to the British Invasion dance and I lumped CK in with that kind of personality. On RIP Threads, I try to be mostly nice or not say anything but sometimes I feel so strongly about the subject in question that I must say something even if stinging. Anyway, yeah another dude from our childhoods' gone.

I can understand why some people would be upset. I'm surprised there wasn't a controversy about that remark if it's true. I'm trying to look for documentation that he said what you claimed and I can't find anything. Nothing on the internet or You Tube. If something like that happened now, it would be all over the internet. From my previous post, it seems that Julian has respect for Casey. Joe's post from You Tube with the profanity doesn't shock me either. I realize everyone, even the famous, is human and imperfect. I also read where Casey was a vegen and he quit voicing the show when TPTB wanted him to do a Burger King commercial. Casey did not want to sell hamburgers. He wanted TPTB to make Shaggy a vegan and he didn't like Shaggy eating meat. www.businessinsider.com/casey-kasem-burger-king-commercial-2014-6

I remember Murray the F^%&&ing K saying, "It just shows life goes on within you and without you" after John died. At least Casey quoted one of John's songs!

As he was closing the show he said essentially, "And the murder of John Lennon shows that en strawberry fields are not forever." It was only controversial to me. It was meant to be poignant, almost poetic, but it rubbed me wrong. All I can say is I thought that it was showbizzy. I was 18 and mad at the world. Those words probably made some fans cry thinking it was beautiful! Actually, today I like the sound of that statement by CK better than I did on the heels of the murder.

Here is a commercial for what has to be the show I am referring to:
This is not the show but just the commercial and the show was called America's Top 10 Tribute To John Lennon The statement I paraphrase is at the very end as CK is wrapping up.
