The real Partridge Family, but if I post this on the Partridge Family/Osmonds forum, I might get banned. Here they are, singing "Folsom Prison Blues." Susan plays bass and is just a bit too cheerful when John sings the line about shooting a man in Reno just to see him die.

I don't get this. Is he trying to imitate Johnny Cash?

I don't get this. Is he trying to imitate Johnny Cash? Yes, I'm sure he was trying to get some Johnny Cash vibe. But what strikes me as strange is that The Cowsills were such a "happy happy happy" family group, and here they are on national TV singing a song about being in prison.

That's more than a vibe. He's even got that little quiver in the voice down. I'll give them the thumbs up. Anybody that can do Johnny Cash that well gets my respect. Although I don't think our boy here would do too well in prison.

Father Bud Cowsill forms a triumvirate with Murry Wilson and Joe Jackson in the "brutal, abusive, sociopathic fathers who tried to run their kids' bands" category. Little John Cowsill might have done quite well in prison, considering.
