Just saw this 1979 tv movie on youtube last night.
Oh god.
Dick Clark and Pete Best helped make it but even they couldn't save this thing.
Too many errors to count and Cynthia looks so 80's (which is odd because this was made in the 70's and takes place in the 60's).

I liked it when it was first broadcast. Of course, that was before "Shout" and the other books cane out. I would probably cringe if I watched it now.

I have this movie on video...
I thought it was a good movie when it first came out,it gave the viewer the general gist of the Beatles story pre American success.
I'm not too critical of it......
There were errors in the Anthology and those dudes were there when it happened....

For some reason, I actual prefer this movie to "Backbeat".
When I met Alan Williams in 1981, he was showing me the various Beatles-related sites in Liverpool - he talked about the Dick Clark film and he mentioned that Dick Clark could have used many of the authentic places, but decided to go with places that looked good on film, rather than to strive for historical accuracy.

I still have it on VHS. It was sanitized but not too bad.

This movie came out when I had been a fan for a couple of years by then and I thought that it was dorky. I was too immature to accept actors portraying my heroes.
I saw it years later and liked it much better. I have never cared for Backbeat although I played the soundtrack a lot.

I also enjoy watching 'Birth of The Beatles'. While it may not be completely factual (where's Allan Williams? ), I still found it entertaining. An interesting note is that John was the primary focus of the film and the film first aired in 1979, a full year before John Lennon's death.
