Anyone here going to see him play? For curiosity's sake, I'll be seeing him in LA. Only 25 bucks, so no big deal.

I went to Little Dhani's website and it looks like there are only seven concerts, two on the East Coast and five on the West Coast. I would go for $25.00 because even if Dhani sucked, that is not expensive. Dhani has to be better live than James "Young Turk" McCartney.

I saw Dhani last week. I knew what to expect from him. He's been showing us what he's about for years. There were quite a few oldsters who, for some reason, expected to hear "commercial" music, or at least, music like his dad. They left early. I think most people were there for the curiosity. Although he got big cheers after each song, hardly anyone was shouting for more. I think he came out for an encore, not because we all demanded one, but because he had prepared to sing a song with one of his female friends (who was an opening act)and he wanted to do it.
He and his band performed very well. The music was loud, aggressive, industrial, polyrhythmic. Part Nine in Nails, part Gary Numan, part Radiohead, part Electronic Music and Unfinished Music #2 - Life With the Lions. For what it was, the music was fine. However, I think he as a very very thin voice. It brought to mind a thought I often have: "Why do people who write songs, but can't sing well, insist on being the lead singer? Pete Townsend got it right. Jeez, write your songs and work with a lead vocalist.
I must say that for me it will be a matter of "been there, done that." If he continues music like this, I will not have any need to hear more. To get me back, he's going to have to learn to write melodies. The previously mentioned bands above can and do write songs with tunes, or if not melodic, at least with a hook or cool riff. I didn't hear any. If he wants to be industrial post punk or whatever, fine. But, my goodness, don't bore us, get to the chorus. It's sad to say, though, that for me, the best song of the night was his cover of Iggy Pop's "I Wanna be Your Dog."

Ouch!
Dhani can put out some great music. He just gets off on these tangents with stuff I cannot really get into. I don't know if he tries too hard and gets too serious or what.
Generally speaking, I like his music.
I don't give any new music I get much attention. I just stick it in with all the other new music I get and hit random. I still have not evaluated his new album.
