Has Ringo joined John and George? I used to rate the level of achievement of the four ex-Beatles in their solo careers in the order of Paul, John and George about equal, then, lastly, Ringo. But now Ringo has released another strong album, continues to do a lot of live work and has even scored a knighthood. I’m thinking now that he has about equaled the contributions of John and George.

It's a good analysis, but part of me thinks Ringo is less independent musically than John or George. What I mean is he had to have a strong collaborator such as John, George, Paul, Mark Hudson, Dave Stewart, Richard Perry. I guess you can say the same about the others to a certain extent, i.e. Jeff Lynne.

With John being murdered in 1980, it is not fair to automatically put John behind Paul in terms of "Solo accomplishments" because: (1) we do not know what John could have accomplished had he been allowed to live; and (2) since Paul has lived to a ripe old age there is a lot of historical revisionism about the quality of his Solo career. I am old enough to remember Paul getting panned or even worse by the critics album after album with some exceptions like BOTR or more recent things. Sure, Paul has quantity over John but I and others have argued that John matches up well with Paul on Solo material from the break-up to 1980. Both had ups and downs but in that short time, 1969 through 1980 and with five years taken off by John, John gave us the magnificent, classic singles GPAC, Cold Turkey, Instant Karma and Merry X-mas and the drop-dead classic albums POB, Imagine, W&B and certainly John's portion of DF. The early 2000's re-mixed versions of Mind Games and more significantly, Rock -N- Roll, really re-energize and rehabilitate those two albums. Go hunt down the re-mixed versions, not the 2010 re-mastered ones. That is easily RRHF worthy as a Solo act. To this day, John's 1980 songs "(Just Like)Starting Over," "Woman," "Watching The Wheels," "I'm Losing You" and "Beautiful Boy" are staples on satellite and free radio that live on, easily getting more airplay these days than anything by Paul from 1977 through 1980, all busy years for Paul. I am not dissing Solo Paul from 1970 to 1980 as I am, after all, the author of The JSD Postulate but I bristle when it is said Paul was a God in his Solo career and the rest are chumps because that thinking is historical revisionism because Paul is among the surviving Rock Elite. There are several real dud albums in Paul's Solo catalog and just one for John(and Yoko) in STINYC. I will say Ringo has been so much better starting with his 1992 release of Time Takes Time. Ringo really, really sucked after Goodnight Vienna until TTT! And KC, you know you and I and just a precious few others here are lovers of Give More Love, Ringo's terrific new album all but ignored by even most Beatles' freaks!
