This depends on what sort of follow up is chosen.
If a second disc of their best songs not represented on 1 is wanted, then that is straight forward, albeit decided by personal preference. I don’t really like this idea though, since we already have the Red and Blue albums as an extended best of representation.
If a collection of songs that went to number two on the UK singles chart, or on Billboard in the US, is wanted, but not including songs already on 1, then there is not much material to choose from. I make it the following:
UK: Please Please Me (even though I dispute this being at Number two in the UK) Magical Mystery Tour (Double EP went to number two on UK singles chart.) Free As A Bird
US: Twist And Shout Do You Want To Know A Secret
I actually support the issuing of an additional collection of global number one singles. That is, a set of songs which went to number one in any country of the world, not just the UK and US. I can come up with these songs not represented on 1 (I am relying on Wikipedia for much of this, so there could be some errors. I haven’t listed every country the individual songs went to number one in, just one each):
Please Please Me (Italy) Twist And Shout (Finland) I Saw Her Standing There (Australia) Roll Over Beethoven (Australia) All My Loving (Canada) Ain’t She Sweet (Sweden) Long Tall Sally (Netherlands EP.) I Should Have Known Better (Canada) If I Fell (Norway) Rock And Roll Music (Australia) I’ll Follow The Sun (Sweden) Words Of Love (Sweden) Michelle (France) Nowhere Man (Canada) Strawberry Fields Forever (Germany) With A Little Help From My Friends (Poland) Revolution (New Zealand) Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da (Germany) Maxwell’s Silver Hammer (France) Got To Get You Into My Life (Canada)
That is 20 extra songs. You could issue them as a separate single disc CD, or combine them with the 27 already on 1 for a 47 track 2CD set. The latter is my preference.
There are actually some extra possibilities. Several singles might have been issued in Canada as double A-sides. That might bring into contention This Boy, She’s A Woman, Rain, Baby, You’re A Rich Man, and Don’t Let Me Down. Then there is also the question of For You Blue (Double A-side in US?)
