There is a new John Lennon compilation album coming out this Fall called Gimme Some Truth. The Ultimate Mixes. www.udiscovermusic.com/news/john-lennon-gimme-some-truth-ultimate-mixes/CD1 1. Instant Karma! (We All Shine On) 2. Cold Turkey 3. Working Class Hero 4. Isolation 5. Love 6. God 7. Power To The People 8. Imagine 9. Jealous Guy 10. Gimme Some Truth 11. Oh My Love 12. How Do You Sleep? 13. Oh Yoko! 14. Angela 15. Come Together (live) 16. Mind Games 17. Out The Blue 18. I Know (I Know) CD2 1. Whatever Gets You Thru The Night 2. Bless You 3. #9 Dream 4. Steel and Glass 5. Stand By Me 6. Angel Baby 7. (Just Like) Starting Over 8. I’m Losing You 9. Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy) 10. Watching The Wheels 11. Woman 12. Dear Yoko 13. Every Man Has A Woman Who Loves Him 14. Nobody Told Me 15. I’m Stepping Out 16. Grow Old With Me 17. Happy Xmas (War Is Over) 18. Give Peace A Chance The songs have new re-mixes which might be interesting. This differs in some key ways from 2005's Working Class Hero: The Definitive Lennon which I think is very good. No "Nobody Loves You(When You're Down And Out)" and "New York City" which I think is mandatory Lennon!

2005's Working Class Hero: The Definitive Lennon mixes up John's Solo songs which I thought was nice. It created some bizarre but funky moments like the lounge-lizard "Intuition" right after the harrowing "Cold Turkey!"
This new comp goes chronologically in order which is how it always has been.
How is "New York City" and "Nobody Loves You(When You're Down And Out)" get left off?! Fucking crazy!
I do like the addition of "I Know(I Know)" which in my opinion is John's make-up to Paul for "How Do You Sleep"(which is on this comp unlike Working Class Hero!").

Won't buy it, may stream it to hear the remixes.
And may not.

Instant Karma on the video above sounds weak. I don't mind a mix that sounds different but it should still sound good. The above has no bite to it.
Good to see you here Joey. It's been a while, hasn't it?

I cannot tell from my crappy ProBook speakers whether the new re-mixes are any good.
The sonics on 2005's Working Class Hero: The Definitive Lennon are awesome. I may buy this for the inclusion of "I Know(I Know)," one of my Solo Lennon favorites.

I ordered the Deluxe version of this compilation over the weekend as I am intrigued by the re-mixes of all the songs.
Listening to the BBC birthday special for John hosted by Sean Lennon, it sure sounded like Elton John's vocal was pushed back in the mix and John's vocal brought way forward in "Whatever Gets You Through The Night" from this new compilation!
That would be huge to me and very welcomed as my beef with WGYTTN has always been that Elton's vocal in that higher register all but drowns out John's vocal. But the other night while listening to the BBC show(which was meant among other things to promote this new comp) it clearly sounded like John's vocal was dominant!
I read where Yoko's only instruction to Sean and the the production team was to make John's vocals as prominent as possible. That is a good instruction as we know John was self-conscious of his singing voice and would all by try and bury it or alter it out of existence.

I really like this comp. My deluxe version arrived today and I have spent a great evening listening to it.
There is a very popular music Message Board where this is getting slammed by the so-called audiophiles there but most of them live in their mommy's basement, have no friends and certainly have never loved or been loved.
Anyway, these are re-mixed and John's vocal has been brought forward in the mix on every track but we are talking John Lennon so how can that be a bad thing?
The book in the deluxe is very cool. Good text, good pictures.
More latter and I invite those who buy any version of this to go through song for song with their thoughts on the song, the re-mix or what the song has meant or what memories each song invokes.
I will say that the live "Come Together" from the One-To-One night show kicks major ass and sounds amazing on this comp! Maximum live Rock And Roll from John Winston Lennon!

Over the weekend I actually played this new John Lennon compilation on my stereo system, playing the actual CDs.
When I first got this, I ripped the two Discs to my iTunes library then transferred the music to my iPod Touch where I played it in my car or at home over a Bluetooth sound-bar with pretty good speakers but not like my main pair of speakers.
I did not think much of these new re-mixes when I was hearing the music through my HP ProBook speakers but things got much better and more interesting when listening to it in the car or over the Bluetooth speakers.
But it sounds best yet on my stereo system playing the actual CDs.
Even the tracks I did not think were re-mixed well like "Instant Karma," "Power To The People," the title song "Gimme Some Truth" and even more modern stuff like "(Just Like) Starting Over" sound much better directly from CD than those other formats.
I am no longer a vinyl person but it might be fun to hear these new re-mixes in vinyl played on a good turntable.
Have others purchased this in some format and if so what do you think?
