On my first review, I, to be honest, can't tell a lot of difference with the new mixes. She Loves You seems to be mixed a litte quiet. Turn it up and it sounds a lot better.
I Am the Walrus is worthless. It was the one track I wanted to hear with a good stereo mix. It turned out to be the one track Giles decided to make a lot of changes with. Unless he couldn't set the levels to their previous spots and make minor adjustments from there, and he had to work from scratch. If he did not know what it should sound like, maybe he couldn't do it justice.
Love the extra guitar on Magical Mystery Tour!

The new mixes that we mostly hear on the Red Album are okay. The Rubber Soul songs sound pretty good so bring on the SDE Rubber Soul Box with lots of bonus material! I really like the song additions to the Red Album but drop "You Really Got A Hold On Me" for something from Beatles For Sale like "I Don't Want To Spoil The Party." On the Blue Album, why the hell are "Glass Onion" and "Oh!Darling" added? Thank God "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" was not added and I am not sure about "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" either, great deep-cut but is it greatest hits material? There is now distinct gun shot noises in "Hey Bulldog" which were originally sharp strikes to a drum by Ringo but now sound like rapid gun fire! WTF Giles?! There is also some disquieting screaming in "Old Brown Shoe!" Some things should stay buried in the mix! Man was I wrong on the commercial potential of "Now And Then" but I am happy to be wrong! The Red and Blue 2023 are nice but I want SDE of the rest of the albums with lots of bonus material.

I like You Really Got a Hold of Me a lot. John really shows off his soul singing on it. I like I Don't Want to Spoil the Party too though.
Oh Darling always seemed like a hit to me. It got radio play in its day. I Want You is a great deep cut. I'm not sure it works on this album.
I haven't heard the gun shots on Bulldog. Just sounds like heavy percussion. I think Giles heard it sounding a little different from a typical drum sound, so he turned it up. It sounds a little like the fighter hits in The Boxer.
I need to do more listening. The iPod I had in my car today is shot. It only plays left side or right side. Won't play in stereo.
And as I said in the Shout-out on the front-page here, I put aside some retirement money for the Beatles. A pity I burned some of it on a best-of set.

I haven't bought these albums yet. I've already got multiple copies of the Red and Blue albums. I might wait until they are discounted, after xmas.

I'd never got them before because I already had all the tracks. I got them this time for the remixes I didn't have. (And because I had not gotten anything Beatles related for nearly a year!)

I had to drive about 70 miles round trip to get them, or at least to get the Red Album, on the November 10th release date.
My pre-order with amazon was not going to arrive until like November 14th, from the Friday November 10th release date. I did not want to miss that weekend of listening to them when I had time.
Amazon sucks! There was a time you would have new music delivered to your door on release date if you pre-ordered the album but those days are over.
Overall these are okay. The Rubber Soul songs sound the best which tells me we are soon to get the SDE Box of that and I bet more attention had been given those songs.
I still cannot get past the gunshots on "Slay Bulldog" and I will stick with 1999's Yellow Submarine Songtrack version as my go-to "Hey Bulldog."

To me:
Love Me Do sounds a little blaring. Paul voice, when singing solo, has an echo effect or something making it sound odd. Best version - 1 or Please Please Me 2009. Please Please Me sounds good. The voices stay up front whereas in previous versions, they tend to trail off and sound sort of distant as the song goes forward. I Saw Her Standing There is good. Paul's vocals sound better in the center. I may be hearing George's guitar a little better, playing riffs I haven't heard or noticed.

When I first heard it, it was on headphones and I was appalled! It sounded a little better in the car when cranked but it is left in the dust by the very next song, I Want To Hold Your Hand, in terms of sonics.

I listened to the tracks when I got the CDs. She Loves You was the one that stook out. It just sounded too quiet.
She Loves You and I Am the Walrus were the ones I was the most curious about. Giles let me down on both tracks.
I'm going through the songs again, maybe two or three at a time. I think I can evaluate them better if it's not eating up too much of my time in the day.

If I say 'good', I mean great! I'm not making a case against the release.
Twist and Shout and From Me to You sound good (great).
She Loves You just plain drops off. I can't imagine that it could not had been notched up a little to get a fuller/louder sound. I'd like to hear Giles official comments on this. He may have just dropped the ball. Again, if he don't have the stereo landscape already in place, he may be lost.
It does serve to set the field for I Want to Hold Your Hand to kick in. It sounds great (meaning better than great)!

I am always in favor of more guitar on Beatles!

I Want to Hold Your Hand and This Boy sound great. More clear sounding tracks. No complaints on the mix.
Same with All My Loving. Just surprized John's jangly rhythm guitar is not centered. Actually, I would have 'flanged' it, with a slight delay on the right for a fuller sound. If Giles could have gotten away with doing that.

Roll Over Beethoven- I was surprised that the song starts out with the guitar on the left, just like on With the Beatles. The big difference is when the drums kick in.They are much louder and kick the song into gear. On the original, there is an odd kind of shifting sound before the vocals start. This new version eliminates that.
You Really Got a Hold on Me- Changes the name from You've Really Got a Hold on Me, at least in my iTunes library, and jacks the volume up, which I'm all for.
Can't Buy Me Love- Again the drums kick in a little louder and then the rest of the backing as well.

I like what Giles has done with You Can't Do That. The guitar on the left seems more pronounced, driving the song along. Listening to UK 2009, it's there, you just can't hear it as well.
Michael Noland, on youtube, complained the they've added a drum to the intro to Hard Day's Night. I think I hear it on 1 too. Again I think, if Giles hears something he didn't know is there, he turns it up. I'm sure he did not add a drum. It doesn't bother me. I guess he didn't hear George's burried lead on Here Comes the Sun. Again with the guitar on the left sounding more pronouced.
I don't hear a difference on And I Love Her but the guitar on the left on Eight Days a Week sounds a little more jangly, clipping a little more.

I Want To Hold Your Hand sounds especially good coming after She Loves You! What do Members think about the additions to the Red Album (sticking to that for now) or omissions? I am a little surprised that cover Long Tall Sally was omitted! It was a live warhorse for Paul! We need No Reply or I Don’t Want To Spoil The Party from Beatles For Sale.

There are slight differences in the new mixes. I am not sure of the purpose in a/b-ing the tracks to figure out what those differences are.
I may be noticing a slight panning to the middle effect on Eight Days a Week with Paul's backing vocals.
The bass note and feedback at the begining of I Feel fine is centered. The drums sound like bongos in spots. I hear finger snapping and woop wooping at the veryend but finger snapping was already there, maybe not as loud.
There are added chord changes with "ride hi-hide" vocals on Ticket To Ride, almost like a synth sound echoing the 'ride hi-hide' vocals.
And of course, you can't argue with the sound on Yesterday.

I picked up listening to the Red Album again today. I moved on to disc 2. I'm not sure if it was the break or what but I'm hearing less differences now.
Everything sounds louder/clearer but that's about all I can hear. The sitar in Norweigen Wood sounds a little different. The guitar in the close of Michelle is more pronounced.
In the In My Life track, the bass seems more buried but adds to a total tonal sound. I did not A/B this but on the survice, it sounds different.
One thing I've noticed, several of my favorite early songs are not on this set. I Should Have Known Better, I'm a Loser and Rain.

I don't hear any real differences in If I Needed Someone, Girl, and Paperback Writer, other than being louder and sounding clearer. Eleanor Rigby and the rest of the songs on the Red Album, are the same as the Revolver release.
I never noticed the bass thumping along in the verses for I'm Only Sleeping. Sounds good.
