Another thread got me to wondering what was the first Beatles LP(or for that matter item) you ever bought or obtained. The First LP I ever bought was when I was about 10 years old and it was Beatles Greatest. It was an Import LP from Sweden I think. I bought it at K-Mart(yes they used to sell a few imports oh so long ago). I played it every day until it was all scratched and skipped. I had one of those crummy case record players that would damage records with each play(cause of the heavy needle). My favorite song was Ticket To Ride with Please Please Me next. I remember that PPM skipped so bad I was so mad. My Mom went out and bought me the Early Beatles LP for that song!! ;D

First Beatles LP would be 'Something New' or 'Yesterday...And Today'.
First 45 would be 'Do You Want To Know A Secret' on the Vee-Jay label followed by 'Help'/'I'm Down' and 'Paperback Writer'/'Rain'. Something on that order.
Hard to recall as I'm going back 45 years, give or take, and I've drank a lot of beer since the original purchase. ;D

First 45 was "Let It Be" in the spring of '70, I guess.
First LP was the American compilation HEY JUDE for my 12th birthday that year--about 38 years ago this week.

My first Beatles' purchase was the Apple 45 of "Eleanor Rigby/Yellow Submarine." That started everything in September of 1975 for me.

1st LP (I was 13): The White Album, (in August 1976), then came Abbey Road and Let it Be (late '76). Ram, Red Rose Speedway and Wings Over America came soon after.

First one I owned, oddly enough, was the US version of HELP! The Red & Blue sets came soon after, and not long after that I was trying to make lists of all the albums so I could check them off as I got them!

My first Beatles album was The Red Album for Christmas 1975, to this day the most revolutionary gift I ever got. It literally changed my life.
My scond album was appropriately The Blue Album in April of 1976(once I could save enough money with some help from my lovely mother).

I remember getting The Beatles 'Magical Mystery Tour' LP along with a Polaroid Swinger Land camera, among other things, from my parents, Christmas, 1967. I still have a photo album filled with photos taken by that very camera, all those years ago.

The first Beatles album I got was 'The Original Greatest Hits' on the Greatest Label, which was also the very first Beatles bootleg, essentially, the first pirated album of their hits released in 1964 to capitalize on their incredible popularity. The first official Beatles album I got was 'Something New', which a neighbor gave us. It was the mono edition, but without the cover. Years later, I actually found the mono 'Something New' cover in a thrift store in New York City. I purchased it and finally made my copy of the album complete.

In early 1964, my sister and I went to a department store in Massachusetts. She bought the mono "Meet the Beatles," and I bought the singles "I Want To Hold Your Hand," "Please Please Me" and "She Loves You." "Hold Your Hand" had a picture sleeve, the others didn't.

OldFred, I had a similar experience with 'Beatles '65.' Back in the mid to late '60s I bought 'Beatles '65' from a friend but without the album cover. Don't remember why, those were crazy times for all of us, we were kids, didn't have a dime to our name. Anyhow, in the early 1980s, when I was in the mood to replace my worn out Beatle LP's, I made right by 'Beatles '65.' Who knew the CD revolution was right around the corner? Oh well...we live...we learn.

I "inherited" the White Album and Sgt. Pepper (both with Apple labels!) form one of my older siblings who had moved out. My sister also had the Red Album and Rock & Roll Music which I borrowed on more than one occasion... After I caught the Beatle bug, I nagged begged my parents for more albums. They got me Meet the Beatles, Rubber Soul, Revolver, Magical Mystery Tour, Abbey Road and Let it Be over the years, as well as several 8-tracks: Love Songs, Sgt. Pepper, and the Blue Album. we already had "Oldies but Goldies" on 8 track. The first one I bought with my own money? Probably Live at the BBC.

Mine was also "Revolver" sometime in 1967. It was a mono, and Target had it in the cut-out bin for $2 ( I think they were trying to phase out mono records at the time).

1984, I was age 8. On my Sanyo Cassette walkman, I played the first album I would ever buy with my own money. This was it: What an awesome tracklisting this album has. I maintain that it's still the best rock 'n' roll I've ever heard.

The first purchase I made with my babysitting money was "Introducing The Beatles"! My older siblings had all the originals and 45s, so I just started filling in. The next one I got was the Red, then the Blue, then "Rock 'n Roll Music." JCV
