I think John doesn't get a lot of credit as a rhythm guitarist because he only played the bottom four strings that Julia showed him on the banjo on just about all his early songs. I thought the guy in this vid's take on John's playing was pretty fun. Check it.

I think John *rocks* as a guitarist. Some of his playing is simple and straightforward but incredibly effective. I love his solo in 'Yer blues' (which you can see him play in 'R&R Circus') and I love the intro to 'I've got a feeling' - which , incidentally, you need quite long fingers to accomplish.
I should know this, but doesn't he play the intro to 'I feel fine' or is that Harri?

I should know this, but doesn't he play the intro to 'I feel fine' or is that Harri? Long fingers true. Do you know how tough it is to play rhythm for 5 hours straight like he did in Hamburg? You have to keep strumming and changing chords constantly. The lead guitar gets to relax a little but rhythm has to keep plowing on. John must have had some very strong fingers built up.
