Here's the infamous clip Jack Paar ran on his TV show weeks before The Beatles made their live American TV debut on the Ed Sullivan Show. It's interesting to hear Paar's comments as the clip runs.
And yes, I know that Walter Chronkite ran a news item on The Beatles the morning of the Kennedy assassination. Can't seem to find it on YouTube, so, this will have to do till it shows up.

Thanks Fred I have never seen that!
The second video of Paar is some kind of retrospective and the clip he plays is not identical to the clip from the first video which seems to be the actual first Beatles' American broadcast.
I don't know much about Paar but in the first video above, he seems sincere about The Beatles calling them nice kids from a tough town but during the clip he really bashes the frenzied fans, being really sarcastic! Was he mocking The Beatles? I guess in those very early days no one could know that The Beatles were leading a cultural revolution.
In the "Related Videos," there is a pretty decent clip from John and Paul's appearance in 1968 on The Tonight Show. What a shame that Johnny Carson was gone and Joe Garagiola was hosting. Carson would have been awesome with John and Paul, or at least have a little more clue than good old Joe.

He had a major feud going on with Ed Sullivan and he ran the clip to irk Sullivan. Ed was so furious that his 'exclusive' with The Beatles was violated that he called the British booking agent to cancel the Fab's appearance on the show. The agent, knowing that Sullivan would never sacrifice a sure ratings getter, held off till Sullivan cooled off, which he did, and The Beatles made their historic live TV debut. This VJ Records promo records references both the Sullivan and Paar appearances.

Sarcastic, self-absorbed jacka$$. And...lets face it, Sullivan didn't really like the Beatles or Rock and Roll for that matter. All he was worried about was ratings.....PERIOD. I'm so glad Morrison didn't "kiss up" and change the lyrics to Light My Fire. Shame Jagger didn't do the same.......
